Hello and welcome back to Daily English!  Today’s word is “bittersweet.” One more time — bittersweet. Let’s see if you can guess the meaning from these clues:

You’re saying goodbye to a place you love because you’ve found a better opportunity elsewhere. You’re excited… but also a little sad. The feeling is bittersweet.

Or imagine this: You watch your child graduate. You’re incredibly proud — but you also miss the little kid they used to be.  That feeling in your chest?  Bittersweet. So, what does bittersweet mean? Bittersweet describes something that is both happy and sad at the same time.
It’s a mix of emotions — joy and sorrow all rolled into one.

Examples: “Leaving my hometown was bittersweet — I was ready for something new, but I knew I’d miss it terribly.”
“Her last day at the company was bittersweet. Everyone celebrated her success, but they were sad to see her go.”
“Looking at old photos of my grandparents is always bittersweet — full of beautiful memories, but also a quiet ache.”

Your Turn!  Can you remember a moment that felt bittersweet?  Maybe it was a goodbye, a major life change, or even a memory that makes you smile… and tear up a little at the same time.  What made it both beautiful and painful?
