She sent twelve voice messages in a row at 2 a.m. Deleted them. Then sent three more.
 Her friend looked at the phone and said, “Okay… that’s a little unhinged.”

So what does “unhinged” mean?

 “Unhinged” describes behavior that seems unstable, extreme, chaotic, or emotionally out of control.

Originally, it means something literally off its hinges — like a broken door.
 But now, we use it for people’s behavior.

Examples:

• His reaction was completely unhinged — way bigger than the situation.
  
  
  
• She posted a 20-slide rant over a small comment. It felt unhinged.
  
  
  
• That plot twist in the movie? Absolutely unhinged.
  
  
  

It’s usually informal. Sometimes serious. Sometimes playful.
