What does “open up” mean? To open up means to start talking honestly about your emotions, experiences, or thoughts, especially things that are private or difficult.
 Examples:

“He never used to talk about his past, but after a few long walks, he started to open up.”
“Sometimes it’s hard to open up, even to people who care about us.”
“The documentary was powerful—the actor really opened up about her mental health journey.”
