Daily English Pod
Daily English Pod is a space for learning English beyond grammar and textbooks.
During the week, you’ll learn practical vocabulary, expressions, idioms, and real-life English, the language people actually use in everyday conversations, emotions, and work.
On weekends, we slow down. Through ideas from psychology, philosophy, and real human experience, we explore language as a way to better understand life, emotions, identity, and growth.
This podcast is created by Jale, an English teacher with 13 years of teaching experience and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from Canada, who teaches with patience, clarity, and care, and believes learning works best when students feel seen, respected, and safe to think aloud.
The goal is simple but meaningful: to help you understand English deeply, use it confidently, and connect it to your real life. English here is not just a skill. It’s a gentle companion for clearer thinking, honest expression, and deeper human connection.

Drained
It means feeling extremely tired — physically, emotionally, or both. When you’re drained, you feel like your energy is gone — as if someone unplugged you.
Examples:
1- She smiled at her students, but inside, she was emotionally drained — going through a divorce while still showing up to teach every day.
2- He said he was fine, but I could see it — the way he stared out the window, silent, barely blinking. That kind of stillness… it’s the kind you only see when someone is drained.
Hello and welcome back to Daily English! Today’s word is “drained.”One more time — drained. Let’s see if you can guess what it means from these clues:
You’ve been working all day, barely had time to eat, and now you're stuck in traffic.
Your eyes are heavy, your body aches, and your brain? It just says, “I’m done.”
You don’t even want to talk. You feel… drained.
Or maybe you’ve had an intense conversation with someone — maybe even an argument.
Afterward, you’re not angry anymore, but you feel hollow, like all your energy’s been pulled out of you. That’s another kind of drained.
So, what does “drained” mean? It means feeling extremely tired — physically, emotionally, or both. When you’re drained, you feel like your energy is gone — as if someone unplugged you.
Examples “After spending the night at the hospital waiting for test results, I came home completely drained — too tired to cry, too tired to speak.”
- “She smiled at her students, but inside, she was emotionally drained — going through a divorce while still showing up to teach every day.”
- “He said he was fine, but I could see it — the way he stared out the window, silent, barely blinking. That kind of stillness… it’s the kind you only see when someone is drained.”
The word "drained" originally comes from the idea of emptying a container of liquid — like draining water from a sink.
When we say “I’m drained,” we’re saying that we feel emptied out — like there's nothing left inside us, not even a drop of energy.
Can you think of a time when you felt completely drained?
What caused it — and what helped you recharge?
