Half-hearted

means doing something without real effort, energy, or enthusiasm. It’s when your body is there, but your heart isn’t really in it.

Examples:

1- He gave a half-hearted smile, like he didn’t really mean it.

2- She made a half-hearted attempt to clean her room before her guests arrived.

Hello and welcome back! Today’s word is half-hearted. Let’s see if you can guess what it means from some clues.

Imagine a student who says they’ll study for an exam but only looks at their notes for five minutes, scrolling on their phone the rest of the time. That’s a half-hearted effort.
Or think of someone who says yes to joining a protest, but when the day comes, they walk slowly, don’t chant, and leave early. That’s pretty
half-hearted.
Even in relationships—if someone says “I love you” but never shows care or commitment, it feels
half-hearted.
Definition:
Half-hearted means doing something without real effort, energy, or enthusiasm. It’s when your body is there, but your heart isn’t really in it.

More Examples: The applause was half-hearted—just a few weak claps.

Fun Fact  The word is old, dating back to the 16th century, and literally means “with only half your heart.”

Now think about yourself: Have you ever done something in a half-hearted way, maybe a project at work, a chore at home, or even a friendship? Why do you think you weren’t fully invested?
