Stoic

Hello and welcome back to Daily English! Today’s word is stoic. One more time: stoic
Clues / Guessing Examples Imagine a soldier who keeps calm while standing in the pouring rain, showing no sign of discomfort. That’s being stoic.
– A woman hears some very bad news but doesn’t cry, shout, or complain. She accepts it quietly. She’s being stoic.
– At the dentist, a man sits still during a painful procedure, not even flinching. Again—very stoic.
The word stoic describes someone who does not show emotions and endures pain or hardship without complaining.
Examples She remained stoic during the trial, never showing any sadness in public.
Athletes are often trained to be stoic, pushing through pain without letting it show.
Despite losing his job, he stayed stoic, calmly planning his next steps.
Fun Fact: The word comes from Stoicism, an ancient Greek philosophy that taught people to control their emotions, accept what happens, and focus on what they can control.
