Daily English Pod
Daily English Pod is a space for learning English beyond grammar and textbooks.
During the week, you’ll learn practical vocabulary, expressions, idioms, and real-life English, the language people actually use in everyday conversations, emotions, and work.
On weekends, we slow down. Through ideas from psychology, philosophy, and real human experience, we explore language as a way to better understand life, emotions, identity, and growth.
This podcast is created by Jale, an English teacher with 13 years of teaching experience and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from Canada, who teaches with patience, clarity, and care, and believes learning works best when students feel seen, respected, and safe to think aloud.
The goal is simple but meaningful: to help you understand English deeply, use it confidently, and connect it to your real life. English here is not just a skill. It’s a gentle companion for clearer thinking, honest expression, and deeper human connection.

The apple of someone's eye
If someone is the apple of your eye, it means they are your favorite person — someone you love deeply and value more than others. It’s about affection, pride, and emotional closeness.
Examples:
1- Emma has three children, but her youngest son is the apple of her eye — she always talks about his little drawings and funny jokes.
2- In some cultures, parents proudly say their children are the apple of their eye — it means they’re the center of their world.
Hello and welcome back to Daily English. Before we begin, I want to say something to our dear listeners from Afghanistan.
I was heartbroken to hear that the internet connection was cut in your country — and I’m truly happy it’s back. My thoughts are with you, and I wish you strength, peace, and all the best.
Today’s expression is sweet — and ancient but still very common. It goes back to a time when people thought the dark center of the eye looked like a tiny apple. Over the centuries, it came to mean something — or someone — deeply precious. The expression is: “the apple of someone’s eye.”
Imagine a grandmother looking at her little grandson running around the garden, smiling proudly. Or a teacher who says, “That student is the apple of my eye.”
What do you think that means?
If someone is the apple of your eye, it means they are your favorite person — someone you love deeply and value more than others. It’s about affection, pride, and emotional closeness. This idiom appears even in the Bible and Shakespeare’s works but as I said, is still very common
Emma has three children, but her youngest son is the apple of her eye — she always talks about his little drawings and funny jokes.
Since the day they met, Maria has been the apple of David’s eye — he can’t stop smiling when she walks into the room.
In some cultures, parents proudly say their children are the apple of their eye — it means they’re the center of their world.
So tell me — who is the apple of your eye?
Someone you love deeply, admire, or can’t imagine your life without?
