Daily English Pod
I’m Jale, an English teacher and graduate in Applied Linguistics from Canada. From Monday to Friday, I share short, practical educational podcasts. On Saturdays, you’ll hear an engaging story, and on Sundays, we explore artistic topics. Like a real magazine, these podcasts cover current issues, culture, society, and history in clear, easy-to-understand English. If you’re interested in learning English and understanding the world around you, this podcast is for you. With me, you’ll not only practice English but also gain a broader perspective on the world.

To err is human
means everyone makes mistakes — it’s part of being human.
Examples:
1- When she forgot a word during her presentation and smiled, everyone relaxed — it was a reminder that to err is human.
2- Every time we make a small mistake in English, we can remind ourselves: to err is human, and that’s how we learn.
Hello and welcome to Daily English, it’s Saturday, and we explore ideas that help us grow — in English and as human beings. Today’s concept is one that takes the pressure off perfection. It’s called The Pratfall Effect.
What It Means: We often think mistakes make us look weak. But research says something surprising — small flaws can make us more likable. Psychologist Elliot Aronson discovered that when competent people make minor mistakes — like spilling coffee, tripping, or forgetting a word — others actually find them more human and more relatable.
It’s called the Pratfall Effect. It shows that perfection can create distance — but vulnerability builds connection. So next time you make a little mistake — laugh. Don’t hide it. Because it reminds people that you’re real — and that’s what makes you lovable.
Our expression of the Day is To Err Is Human This expression means everyone makes mistakes — it’s part of being human.
Examples:
- When she forgot a word during her presentation and smiled, everyone relaxed — it was a reminder that to err is human.
- He spilled coffee during a meeting, and instead of panicking, he laughed. The team joined in — they all knew to err is human.
- Even great speakers mispronounce words sometimes — to err is human, and it helps others feel comfortable too.
- Every time we make a small mistake in English, we can remind ourselves: to err is human, and that’s how we learn.
Question for You: Can you remember a time when a small mistake made things more natural — or even helped you connect with someone?
Mistakes don’t distance us — they connect us. When we show our flaws, we show our hearts.
So don’t hide them — they’re how we grow, and how we’re understood.
