Daily English Pod
Daily English Pod is a space for learning English beyond grammar and textbooks.
During the week, you’ll learn practical vocabulary, expressions, idioms, and real-life English, the language people actually use in everyday conversations, emotions, and work.
On weekends, we slow down. Through ideas from psychology, philosophy, and real human experience, we explore language as a way to better understand life, emotions, identity, and growth.
This podcast is created by Jale, an English teacher with 13 years of teaching experience and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from Canada, who teaches with patience, clarity, and care, and believes learning works best when students feel seen, respected, and safe to think aloud.
The goal is simple but meaningful: to help you understand English deeply, use it confidently, and connect it to your real life. English here is not just a skill. It’s a gentle companion for clearer thinking, honest expression, and deeper human connection.

It didn't land
When we say “that didn’t land,” we mean that something didn’t have the effect we hoped for. A joke wasn’t funny. A comment felt awkward. A message was misunderstood. The intention was there — but the impact wasn’t.
Examples
1- She wanted to be supportive, so she chose her words carefully. But the other person went quiet. Her intention was good — it just didn’t land the way she hoped.
2- He apologized and meant every word, but the timing was wrong. The apology was sincere, but it didn’t land.
Hi everyone, and welcome to Daily English. Today’s expression is modern, subtle, and very common in real-life English. It’s “that didn’t land.”One more time: “That didn’t land.”She made a joke in the group chat and waited for the reactions.
A few seconds passed. Then more seconds. No replies. No emojis.
She looked at her phone and thought, “Okay… that didn’t land.”What do you think this expression means?
When we say “that didn’t land,” we mean that something didn’t have the effect we hoped for. A joke wasn’t funny. A comment felt awkward. A message was misunderstood. The intention was there — but the impact wasn’t.
Let’s listen to some examples:
- He translated a very funny joke from his own language. The grammar was correct, but it didn’t land in English.
- She wanted to be supportive, so she chose her words carefully. But the other person went quiet. Her intention was good — it just didn’t land the way she hoped.
- He apologized and meant every word, but the timing was wrong. The apology was sincere, but it didn’t land.
- In English, we often use this expression to talk about moments when communication misses the mark — not because someone was wrong, but because the timing, tone, or context wasn’t right.
- When was the last time something you said — a joke, a comment, or a message — didn’t land the way you expected?
