Daily English Pod
Daily English Pod is a space for learning English beyond grammar and textbooks.
During the week, you’ll learn practical vocabulary, expressions, idioms, and real-life English, the language people actually use in everyday conversations, emotions, and work.
On weekends, we slow down. Through ideas from psychology, philosophy, and real human experience, we explore language as a way to better understand life, emotions, identity, and growth.
This podcast is created by Jale, an English teacher with 13 years of teaching experience and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from Canada, who teaches with patience, clarity, and care, and believes learning works best when students feel seen, respected, and safe to think aloud.
The goal is simple but meaningful: to help you understand English deeply, use it confidently, and connect it to your real life. English here is not just a skill. It’s a gentle companion for clearer thinking, honest expression, and deeper human connection.

Double-edged Sword
is something that has both positive and negative consequences at the same time.
Examples:
1- Technology is often described as a double-edged sword. It gives people access to information, education, and global conversations. But it can also spread misinformation and increase social division.
2- Social media is another double-edged sword. It allows people to share ideas and build communities across cultures. But at the same time, it can create pressure, comparison, and sometimes hostility.
Hi everyone, and welcome to Daily English. Today’s expression is thoughtful and very relevant to modern society. It’s “a double-edged sword.”
One more time: “a double-edged sword.”
In the past, some swords were sharpened on both sides. They were powerful weapons — but also dangerous to the person holding them. That’s where the expression comes from.
A “double-edged sword” is something that has both positive and negative consequences at the same time.
Something that helps in one way, but creates challenges in another.
Let’s listen to some examples.
Technology is often described as a double-edged sword.
It gives people access to information, education, and global conversations.
But it can also spread misinformation and increase social division.
Social media is another double-edged sword.
It allows people to share ideas and build communities across cultures.
But at the same time, it can create pressure, comparison, and sometimes hostility.
Even rapid economic development can be a double-edged sword.
It can improve living standards and opportunities,
while also creating inequality or environmental challenges.
Many changes in society are like this. They bring progress — but also new questions.
That’s why it’s important not only to celebrate change, but also to reflect on its consequences.
Now it’s your turn: Can you think of something in modern society that feels like a double-edged sword?
Thanks for listening to Daily English. Stay curious, stay thoughtful, and see you tomorrow.
