Daily English Pod
Daily English Pod is a space for learning English beyond grammar and textbooks.
During the week, you’ll learn practical vocabulary, expressions, idioms, and real-life English, the language people actually use in everyday conversations, emotions, and work.
On weekends, we slow down. Through ideas from psychology, philosophy, and real human experience, we explore language as a way to better understand life, emotions, identity, and growth.
This podcast is created by Jale, an English teacher with 13 years of teaching experience and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from Canada, who teaches with patience, clarity, and care, and believes learning works best when students feel seen, respected, and safe to think aloud.
The goal is simple but meaningful: to help you understand English deeply, use it confidently, and connect it to your real life. English here is not just a skill. It’s a gentle companion for clearer thinking, honest expression, and deeper human connection.

Before I knew it
Something happened very quickly or sooner than you expected. Usually because you were busy, distracted, or enjoying yourself.
Examples:
1- I watched one episode, and before I knew it, it was midnight.
2- I kept studying a little every day, and before I knew it, I was speaking English with confidence.
Have you ever had one of those moments when time seems to disappear? You sit down for a quick coffee with a friend. You start talking. One story leads to another. You laugh, remember old memories, make new plans… And then you look at the clock and think: “Wait… how is it already 10 o’clock?”
And that’s exactly where today’s expression comes in: Before I knew it…
Hi everyone, and welcome to Daily English. Today’s expression is incredibly common in storytelling and everyday conversations:
Before I knew it…One more time: Before I knew it… It means: Something happened very quickly or sooner than you expected. Usually because you were busy, distracted, or enjoying yourself.
Let’s look at some examples. Imagine you’re meeting an old friend for coffee. You think you’ll stay for thirty minutes. But you start talking about work, travel, memories, and life.
Then suddenly, three hours have passed. You could say: “We started talking, and before I knew it, the café was closing.”
Or imagine you start watching just one episode of a TV series. One episode becomes two.
Two becomes four. Suddenly, you hear birds outside and realize it’s almost midnight.
You might say: “I watched one episode, and before I knew it, it was midnight.”
Or imagine someone starts learning English. At first, progress feels slow. A few words here.
A few expressions there. But they keep going. And one day they realize they can understand podcasts and hold conversations.
They might say: “I kept studying a little every day, and before I knew it, I was speaking English with confidence.”
This expression is beautiful because life often changes gradually. So gradually that we barely notice it happening. Until one day we stop and realize:
Something has changed. We’ve changed. Now it’s your turn:
What’s something that happened slowly and then suddenly made you think:
“Wow… before I knew it…” Thank you for being here today
And remember: Life often changes quietly. And sometimes, the biggest changes happen…
before we even know it. See you tomorrow.
