Lance Hillsinger is a former child welfare social worker with a B.A. in psychology and political science from UCLA and a master's in psychology from Vanderbilt University. His first book, In Place of the Parent, is based on his over three decade-long career in social work. His second book, Build a Better Bridge, covers social issues such as affordable housing, truancy, and uninvolved fathers. His most recent book, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John: A Court Investigator Examines the Gospels was released in November 2024.

He and Jerry discussed the Biblical gospel accounts of the life of Christ, and whether the surviving Scriptures have been faithfully preserved and are true to the original history being described. They disagreed on the absolute veracity of the gospel accounts. Lance expressed concern about details in the gospels (such as the purple robe in the events leading to Christ's crucifixion) that seemed implausible. Jerry pointed out that the same imagination used to craft details that disagree with the text could just as easily be used to think of ways that the Scripture is just as accurate in these gospel narratives as it is throughout the Bible.
