Vince Anello is a legendary name in powerlifting history—best known as the first man to deadlift 800 pounds under 200 lbs bodyweight, and a five-time IPF World Champion. An inductee into the prestigious York Barbell Hall of Fame, Anello helped reshape strength sports with groundbreaking lifts and unmatched mental resilience.

A celebrated bodybuilder and founder of Anello Body Fitness, Vince trained outside the mainstream—often in basements and gritty gyms with Cleveland’s legendary “Wild Bunch,” a crew that included John Black, Danny Wohleber, John Florio, and 1,000-pound squatter Dave Waddington. Despite the lack of big sponsors or high-end facilities, he reached world-class levels through relentless discipline and self-belief.

His memoir, Vince Anello: My Life On and Off the Platform (co-written with Dave Yarnell), reveals his unique mental and physical training strategies, the emotional depth behind his lifting career, and life beyond the barbell.

Today, Anello continues to inspire as a coach and mentor, teaching principles of strength, health, mindset, and personal growth to the next generation of athletes.
