Jason Fitz: The Juilliard-Trained Fiddler And Football Analyst

Brandon Wenerd Episode 4

Jason Fitz has lived between two worlds—first as a child prodigy violinist, then as a football analyst. He’s a Juilliard-trained musician who played Carnegie Hall at just 10 years old. After dominating the music scene as the fiddle player and musical director for The Band Perry (remember their smash hit “If I Die Young”?) and playing on records that sold over 40 million units for artists like Tim McGraw and Matchbox 20, Jason decided to channel his relentless workhorse mentality into sports.

Now, Fitz is a multi-faceted, cross-platform sports and entertainment host at Yahoo Sports and Fox Sports Radio. Before this, he was a daily presence on ESPN Radio, one of the original hosts of SportsCenter on Snapchat, and regularly hosted shows like College Football Live and digital coverage for the NFL, College Football, and the NFL Draft.

A lifelong Oakland Raiders fan, Jason calls himself "an empowered fan"—someone who combines deep knowledge with passion for the game. When I interviewed him, he literally had gold records hanging behind him, a testament to his incredible music career.

And here’s something truly unique: Jason is one of the few, if only, people in the world with a vote for both the Grammy Awards and the Biletnikoff Award, which is given to the nation’s top college football receiver.

In this episode of The Mostly Occasionally Show, we dive into his incredible pivot from music to sports, his work ethic, and how he's thrived in both worlds. It’s an inspiring conversation with a guy who’s never stopped pushing himself—whether in the spotlight or behind the mic.

It’s an inspiring conversation with a guy who’s lived two very different dreams—and is still going strong.
