Gryffin: How an EDM DJ Finds Work-Life Balance on the Golf Course

Brandon Wenerd Episode 9

The theme of this episode is finding balance.

When you live an intentional, high-octane life juggling career demands, it’s essential to recalibrate before the burnout sets in. It’s not just a nice-to-have—it’s a necessity for your mental and physical health. Because no matter how fun your job or life may seem, too much of a good thing can still wipe you out.

I know that feeling all too well. For Gryffin, that reset comes on the golf course.

Known offstage as Dan Griffith, Gryffin finds rhythm in two very different places: the festival stage and the fairway. "Golf is the complete opposite of my shows," Gryffin tells me. "I love the energy and chaos of performing for thousands of fans, but on the course, it’s quiet, calm, and I don’t even look at my phone. It’s my mental reset."

On this episode of Mostly Occasionally, I sat down with the melodic house DJ and producer to explore that duality: high-energy nights commanding crowds and peaceful mornings chasing birdies.

This episode was a blast for me. We took a little trip down memory lane, revisiting Gryffin’s early days as part of White Panda, when he was mashing up tracks at BroBible parties in New York City in circa 2010. Now, he’s headlining iconic venues like Red Rocks and Forest Hills on his PULSE Tour. Along the way, Gryffin has collaborated with stars like OneRepublic, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Noah Kahan, carving out a signature sound that blends melody with emotion.

In this episode, Gryffin talks about his dream of headlining The Gorge, shares wild stories from LIV Golf events, and reflects on staying grounded while jetting around the globe for shows. He also breaks down his latest single, “Never Letting Go,” with Brazilian DJ Alok and Julia Church, and why this collaboration has been so exciting for him.

If you’ve ever wondered how an EDM star finds balance—or just want to hear some incredible stories from the road—this episode is it. It’s also a great reminder that even when you’re living the dream, building in ways to escape and unwind is key to keeping the passion alive.

Even DJs, after all, need world-life balance.

Oh hey guys, just a little show note here! We're talking about EDSea, a dance music cruise that started and ended in Miami, and not EDC, the massive EDM festival. Just wanted to make that clear since it might sound confusing when listening to this episode. Yeah, K thanks!

Thanks for listening and subscribing to Mostly Occasionally.
