Speaker 2Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast . Are you in need of a roofing company ? Surprisingly , one may be closer than you think . Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to your neighbor , james McGaw , with Above Ground Roofing . James , how are you doing ?
Speaker 3I'm good . How are you doing , Ms Sophia ?
Speaker 2I'm great . Well , we're excited to learn all about you and your business . Tell us a bit about your company .
Speaker 3So yes , of course , our company is Above Ground Roofing LLC . We are a general contractor , local here to DFW . We're a Better Business Bureau accredited business . We've been featured by CBS , texas News , comerica Bank , texas Rangers and now Good Neighbor Podcast , so we're thankful to be here .
Speaker 2Awesome . Well , we're glad to have you . How'd you get into this business ?
Speaker 3I had a friend that worked in the insurance industry kind of contracting storm restoration . He introduced me to it about four years ago and kind of took off from there .
Speaker 2Okay , and what are the myths or misconceptions in your industry ?
Speaker 3I think a lot of the misconceptions would be just the quality and the integralness , I guess , of what you'd say of a general contractor in the area . A lot of customers feel that , you know , they're shady a lot of times and we've tried to set ourselves apart from that by the culture that we have within our business and , you know , attaching ourselves to reputable names like Comerica , Texas Rangers and Better Business Bureau and kind of sets us apart from that kind of worry , it customers usually have that misconception that that's who we are but we're not , you know okay , and outside of work , what do you do for fun ?
Speaker 3um , I have two children , 11 and 13 years old . They keep me super busy when I'm not , uh , working or running the business . Outside of that , then it'd be like music or digital media creation , something like that okay , any favorite hobbies uh , probably music . I like to play the guitar . I like to play the guitar , yeah , that's awesome .
Speaker 2Well , we've talked about a little bit of the positives , but let's go ahead and change gears for a second . Can you describe one hardship or life challenge that you rose above and can now say because of it , you're better and stronger ? I say that what comes to mind for you .
Speaker 3Probably the hardest thing that I've had to conquer and rise above would be I found some hardship in life about four years ago and I was homeless and for probably about a year or so I didn't have much and I had to come above that and rise above it , of course , to get to where I'm at today . I'm thankful for where I'm at , but , yeah , that was difficult to get through .
Speaker 2Wow , and what kind of helped you get through it when you were in those difficult times .
Speaker 3I think just having a big why factor would be how I got through it . Just , my kids need more in their life than what I had to offer them at that point , and so I had to muscle up and just get with it , you know .
Speaker 2Yes , well , james , please tell our listeners one thing , if only one , that they should remember about above-ground roofing .
