EP #241: Earning Their Stripes Daily: Eli And Zahava Teigman's Journey With Tiger Air and Heating
What makes Eli and Zahava Teigman with Tiger Air and Heating good neighbors?
Meet Eli and Zahava Teigman, the powerhouse couple behind Tiger Air and Heating, who are redefining what it means to run a successful HVAC business in the challenging Dallas-Fort Worth market. Their company motto—"earning our stripes daily"—isn't just clever wordplay; it's a philosophy that permeates everything from their daily technician training to their stellar customer service.
What makes Tiger Air truly stand out is their versatility and commitment to excellence. While many competitors specialize in either commercial or residential services, Tiger Air maintains a 50/50 balance between both sectors. Their technicians undergo rigorous daily training sessions with Eli, ensuring they arrive at each job fully prepared rather than figuring things out on the spot. This preparation shows in their remarkable achievement of maintaining over 300 five-star reviews without a single four-star rating in sight—an almost unheard-of accomplishment in the HVAC industry.
Zahava brings creative marketing strategies to the table, building brand awareness through memorable merchandise, community events, and engaging social media content. She candidly shares the reality of business ownership, dispelling the myth that entrepreneurs enjoy freedom and flexibility when the truth involves being available round-the-clock. Together, the Teigman's have built more than just a service company; they've created a family atmosphere where employees enjoy monthly breakfasts and team outings to places like Six Flags. Their approach combines technical excellence with authentic human connection, proving that even in a technical field like HVAC, relationships and trust remain paramount to success.

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.
Speaker 2:Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of an HVAC company? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbors Eli and Zahava Teegman with their company Tiger Air and Heating. Eli and Zahava, how are you two today?
Speaker 3:Doing well, thank you. Thank you for having us on.
Speaker 2:Of course it's a pleasure and we're excited to learn all about you and your business. Can you tell us a bit about your company?
Speaker 3:Sure. So Tiger Air and Heating. We're a locally owned and operated business here in Dallas-Fort Worth. Our company's model is earning our stripes daily and we mean it when we say that it's not as easy as people think doing air conditioning in Dallas. It's difficult conditions, there's a lot to learn, especially with technology advancing, but that's what we specialize in. We specialize in having trained technicians that know what the conditions are like and what is out there to work on that equipment to make sure that everybody is comfortable.
Speaker 2:So how did you both get into this business?
Speaker 3:So I was always, since I was very little, I was always really good at tinkering and fixing things, and air conditioning is one of those areas that kind of encompasses all the trades. So it's got plumbing, it's got electrical, it's got a little bit of kind of construction into it. So as I kind of advanced my career in construction, hvac was that area that kind of really brought everything together. So I excelled at that and then slowly, with the help of my wife, we started to grow the business and that's really when we became a real company and started to have to, you know, have an office and deal with all the different employees and all that. So it's, it's been a long road, but it's. It's looking really nice.
Speaker 2:So, zahava, what is the most common myth or misconception you come across in your industry?
Speaker 4:In HVAC. Well, it's more like being a business owner. I guess, like people think that it's the best being a business owner and like you get to do whatever you want and you can leave. You know you can take vacations whenever you want, but really you have to be here 24 seven. You have to make sure everything's running 24 seven and if you do go away, you're on the phone the whole time. You're, you know, busy with everything that's going on.
Speaker 4:I focus on the marketing in HVAC, in our company, and you just have to be on top of it all the time. You also have to think of different ways. You have to think of different things. You can't be the same as other companies. You have to, you know, be not the norm to get more Like I try on Instagram as much as I can, to just do funny things and, um, do silly stuff and just also to give information about HVAC, whereas, like you know, I feel like people don't really understand air conditioning, like it's just like you don't think about it until you need it, right.
Speaker 4:So, like my whole entire my kids' schools, they all have magnets on their cars like Tiger Air. We give it out. We do a lot of merch. We, whenever we go to any of our customers, we give them a water bottle with sunglasses and with magnets and keychains and all this stuff, and people love merch, so I feel like that that's really fun for people. Um, and we do like a lot of events, so we'll have like a booth at a bunch of events and we'll do raffles and giveaways and things like that, so that when people actually do need an AC, they'll think of us, just because it's not really like the common you know thing. But yeah, so what? I would say that the common misconception about owning a business is that like, oh, it's so, you know, I don't know, it's very, very hard, it's a lot of ups and downs and but yeah, I mean, god willing, it will. It's, it's been, it's been going uphill, so it's great.
Speaker 2:So who are your typical Target customers?
Speaker 3:So we're kind of a unique company. A lot of companies are either commercial or residential. We're 50-50 on both. We find that it's the same tools and it's really the same technicians if you train them correctly. So all of our technicians are trained to do both of those areas. So our target audience is really we do a lot of restaurants in Dallas, a lot of retail and then all those homeowners regular homeowners, condos we pretty much service it all.
Speaker 4:And we make sure that our techs are trained in both areas, so it's not like we only have commercial and we only have residential. They know both, they go on both, so it's really good.
Speaker 3:Synagogues, churches, all of it Schools. We service it all.
Speaker 2:That's awesome. Now let's go ahead and switch gears for a second. Now let's go ahead and switch gears for a second. Either of you can answer this, but can you describe a hardship or life challenge you overcame and how it made you a better and stronger person today?
Speaker 3:Whatever you're comfortable sharing, sure. So yeah, in business, especially as your company begins to grow, sometimes you have to kind of extend yourself a little bit, especially financially. So there definitely are points when you know you're keeping the company afloat, especially as the shoulder seasons kick in, and sometimes you're paying your employees, are not paying yourself, but that really gives an opportunity really to to work harder on the business and also to connect with God a little bit more to kind of keep you going and keep your spirits up and push through to you kind of get past that hurdle. So that's definitely something that we've experienced in this business.
Speaker 2:Amen to that and to any new business owners coming into an industry that may be similar to yours. What advice do you have for them? Maybe similar to yours? What?
Speaker 3:advice do you have for them? I would say, first of all, just you know, be prepared. I can tell you, in air conditioning it's definitely it's a very difficult business to run, but it is certainly very rewarding. But you should definitely know what you're getting yourself into before trying to start it.
Speaker 2:So yeah, so, eli, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about Tiger Air and heating.
Speaker 3:You should remember that we are. We're a trustworthy company. We're an honest company. We're not out there, out here to make a quick buck. We're here to earn our our customers business for the long run. So you can trust us when we come out and when we service your AC, we're not going to just try to do a quick sale. Unfortunately, I think there are a lot of companies out there that aren't even sending out technicians. They're kind of like salesmen that pretend to kind of know how to repair things. So that's not what you would be getting with us. And we earn our stripes daily and we mean it when we say that.
Speaker 2:And so, zahapa, what is the number one thing that makes you guys stand out as a company?
Speaker 4:So I think I mean because I do marketing again, so I think our marketing stands out a lot but also I think my husband does daily training with the guys and we were speaking to a bunch of other we're part of, like, this hvac group of different people around the world that own hvac companies and a lot of them don't train them daily like my husband. Like he'll go over all the things that they have that day, all the texts will come in the morning and he'll go over. Okay, today you're doing this, what do we do do here? Well, what do we do? And it's every day, daily, daily training.
Speaker 4:So I think that what sets us apart for sure is that they, the guys, come in, they're, they know exactly what they're doing, they know what they're fixing, they they did their homework and a lot of AC guys don't. They just are set to jobs and they figure it out on the job and that's why you hear a lot of AC companies, all these negative reviews. I don't know if you saw, but we only have five star reviews and we're very, very proud of that. We have over 300 reviews. Just five stars only like no four, no three, five stars. So it's really that that definitely sets us apart, I think, from other companies is that there's that daily training.
Speaker 4:The guys, customer service, like they're just all good guys, like I also go over the phone calls in the company and you just hear, like when they call, they say you know, we're coming to your house, is it okay? We parked over here? You know, like we always put on booties, they're always just very respectful guys, they know what they're doing. The training in the mornings is huge, I think, and yeah, I think that's definitely something that sets us apart from other companies.
Speaker 2:So, Zahava, how can our listeners learn more about Tiger Air and heating?
Speaker 4:well, they can follow us on all social media. We have TikTok, instagram, facebook, linkedin. You know everything. And then you can also look us up tigerairtxcom, and our phone number is pretty memorable it's 214-214-HVAC H-V-A-C, which is 6922. And yeah, and we're always hiring and always looking for more employees that want to join our family business, because we're all family here and we have a lot of fun. We have monthly breakfasts and we do get togethers, Like we go to fun places. Hopefully, we're going to Six Flags next with all of our guys. So, yeah, we have a lot of fun.
Speaker 2:Well, Eli and Zahava, I really appreciate you both being on the show and we wish you and your business the best moving forward.
