EP #247: Family Values Shape This Exterior Remodeling Business's Approach to Customer Care

Sophia Yvette

What makes John Quint with  Quint Pro Siding & Windows  a good neighbor?

What's the real difference between a basic exterior repair and a transformative home upgrade? John Quint, founder of Quint Pro Siding and Windows, answers this question while sharing his eight-year journey running an exterior remodeling company serving the Metro Plains area.

Growing up with a father in the home improvement industry, John developed an early passion that eventually led him to establish his own business. After years of observing industry practices while working in retail home improvement and as a manufacturer's rep, he knew he could offer something better. Quint Pro was born from his desire to implement his unique vision for quality exterior remodeling.

John dispels the common misconception that "all products, installs, and companies are the same," explaining why estimates vary so dramatically and what homeowners should look for when considering exterior renovations. He draws a fascinating distinction between his target customers—those seeking genuine upgrades to improve performance and eliminate maintenance—versus homeowners simply wanting to restore storm damage. This philosophy extends to his powerful perspective on home improvements as investments rather than expenses, particularly when choosing maintenance-free options that eliminate recurring costs.

The conversation takes a personal turn when John reveals how becoming a father transformed his outlook, helping him overcome self-centered tendencies and prioritize family values in his business approach. This personal evolution shapes his company's commitment to customer care and his hands-on involvement in every project. "I take this very personally," he shares, describing the joy he finds in witnessing homeowners' reactions to transformations they've sometimes waited decades to experience. Visit QuintPro.com to discover how John and his team can help you make your exterior remodeling vision a reality.

Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of an exterior remodeling company? Well, one might be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor John Quint, with Quint Pro Siding and Windows. John, how are you today? Great, great.

Speaker 3:

Well, we're excited to learn all about you and your business. Can you tell us a bit about your company? Yeah, we're an exterior remodeling company. We specialize in replacement windows and upgraded siding options. We've been in business for a little over eight years. We've had two different locations over the years. Right now we're in Rockwall, but we service the whole Metro Plains.

Speaker 2:

Amazing. And so, John, originally. How did you get into this business?

Speaker 3:

originally. How did you get into this business? I've been in the home improvement industry my whole life. My father was in the home improvement industry so I grew up kind of around that industry as a kid. My first jobs were in retail home improvement and I just over the years kind of grew a knowledge for it and I've always loved talking with people and I've got recruited into sales organizations for exterior remodeling and, you know, loved it. And then I was a manufacturer's rep for a while for a product and I just always enjoyed it. So I wanted to start my own business and I just always enjoyed it. So I wanted to start my own business and you know, over the years I saw things the way other people did it and had my opinions on how I wanted to do things and I knew the only way I would be able to get that done is to start my own business. So I started this, like I said, a little over eight years ago, to do just that.

Speaker 2:

Amazing. It's like they say when you want something done right, you got to do it yourself, right yeah?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you know I'm a big believer in. You know the lifestyle as well. I love the lifestyle that comes with this kind of a business as well. I get to be out meeting people and out and about. You know I'm not in an office, you know eight hours a day. You know under lights. You know I get to be out out and you know experiencing. You know all these remodels and things like that, so it's really enjoyable as well.

Speaker 2:

So, John, go ahead and tell our listeners what is the most common myth or misconception you come across in your industry.

Speaker 3:

All products are the same, all installs are the same and all companies are the same. You know when you go out there and get estimates you're going to find that you know pricing is going to be all over the board and it's hard to make sense of that sometimes. But when you realize you know not everything is the same. You know there's a lot of variables that go into that and so it's really important to make sure you know the company that you're getting, you know that price from, so that you understand what comes with that price and what doesn't come with that price as well.

Speaker 2:

Most definitely, and, on that note, who are your target customers? And, in terms of marketing, how do you stay attractive to them?

Speaker 3:

So we're looking for somebody that's wanting to upgrade their home. You know they've had leaky old homes aluminum windows or something like that, wood windows possibly and they're tired of maintaining them or dealing with you know the troubles that come with that so they're looking to change that to something that's going to be better performing, longer lasting, maintenance free. We're, you know, a lot of times we'll have storms come through and people will get a broken window here or there, and you know they'll call us to want have storms come through and people will get a broken window here or there, and you know they'll call us to want to come out and take care of it. But they're wanting to restore it to how it was before the storm, you know, affected it. That's not really our customer.

Speaker 3:

Our customer is the one that realizes that, even in good condition, that window wasn't what they wanted it to be. So they're wanting to upgrade it to something that's going to be more, you know, appealing, more energy efficient and, like I said, more durable and longer lasting, and then with siding as well. If they're looking to restore the outside of their house, you know a painter can come in and make small repairs and then paint the house and give it a fresh, updated look, whereas we are somebody that wants to tear everything off to put something on there that's not going to be need to be constantly painted and updated or maintained. So they're. They're looking to put something on there that's maintenance free, that's going to last them, you know, hopefully the rest of their lives rest of their lives, and how often should customers be?

Speaker 3:

getting their windows and other exterior areas repaired. Windows, I mean, that's kind of an opinion. I mean, obviously if it's leaking and you have issues and they're broken, it's time. But if you know there's fog in the glass and you've replaced it a few times, you know you might look at replacing that window now with something that's not going to continue to do that.

Speaker 3:

So it's just, you know what is your tolerance to putting up with it. You know, because I can alleviate all those issues that you deal with. You know it's just going to take money. But the great thing about that is it's an investment. You know, when you're replacing glass, when you're repairing your siding and getting paint, a new paint job, that's an expense. But if you put in a maintenance free you know siding like Hardy, you know that doesn't expand and contract and cause the paint issues you're investing in your home expand and contract and cause the paint issues you're investing in your home. So you're not going to have to spend that money over and over again, adding up to the cost of just replacing it in the beginning.

Speaker 2:

Anyway, let's go ahead and switch gears for a second. Can you describe a hardship or life challenge you overcame and how it made you a better and stronger person today? What comes to mind for you?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I've had a fun journey through life and I've. You know, family is really what has changed that for me. When I had kids, having to be the person that they would look up to became very important to me, and you realize that sometimes you might not treat people properly, and those are things that I dealt with. I was very self-centered. I would say I was not a mean person or unkind. I was very self-centered until I had children and you know, that really changed my outlook on life and helped me overcome some of my challenges through childhood you know, raising my children, and so, yeah, that really changed my life.

Speaker 3:

When I was a manufacturer's rep, I was traveling quite a bit and being on the road once my son was born got tough, so I wanted to do something that allowed me to be at home more. So that's why I said the lifestyle of this is great as well, because I get to be with my family when I want to be as well, so I get to set my own times and, you know, live the lifestyle that I want. So that's very important to me.

Speaker 2:

Right, I agree with you 100%. And family, no matter what, is always so important. John, please tell our listeners one thing you would like them to remember about Quint Pro Siding and Windows.

Speaker 3:

Wow, wow. There's so much. One thing I would like them to remember is you know we are going to take good care of your home. We are very invested and doing a good job when it comes to our installs. I take this very personally. I'm involved in every project. I love seeing the reactions when we're able to make these upgrades to homes. Sometimes people have been waiting, you know, years or decades to get this stuff done and to see that transformation and to see how happy they are is great. So just remember, we're in this with you. You know we want to see you happy at the end of this project and we want you to enjoy the process getting there as well?

Speaker 2:
