EP 270: Spine-tingling Success: From Grad School to Grapevine's Go-To Chiropractor : Jenna Carter's Journey With The Chiro Co.
What makes Jenna Carter with The Chiro Co. a good neighbor?
Your nervous system impacts everything from sleep to digestion—yet many of us remain stuck in fight-or-flight mode without even realizing it. This fascinating conversation with Jenna Carter, founder of The ChiroCo in Grapevine, Texas, reveals why chiropractic care goes far beyond treating back pain.
Jenna shares her journey from science-loving undergrad to pioneering holistic chiropractor. Her practice specializes in family wellness, seeing patients from newborns to seniors, with particular focus on prenatal and pediatric care. Most compelling is her explanation of how chiropractic adjustments help release tension patterns throughout the body, allowing your nervous system to shift from stressed "sympathetic" mode into healing "parasympathetic" mode.
What sets The Chiro Co. apart is Jenna's commitment to longer, personalized appointments where patients feel genuinely seen and heard. She candidly discusses the challenges of scaling her practice—moving from a small initial space to a larger facility—and offers valuable advice to fellow entrepreneurs about managing business transitions. Whether you're struggling with chronic health issues, seeking family wellness care, or simply curious about holistic approaches to health, Jenna's insights offer a refreshing perspective on how supporting your nervous system might be the key to unlocking better overall health. Follow The Chiro Co. on Instagram (@theChiroCo) or visit their website for educational content that can benefit everyone, even those who aren't current patients.

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.
Speaker 2:Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a chiropractor? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, jenna Carter, with the ChiroCo. Jenna, how are you today? I'm fantastic. Thanks for having me. Of course, it is a pleasure to have you on and we're excited to learn all about you and your business. Can you start by telling our listeners a bit about your company, Absolutely.
Speaker 3:The ChiroCo is a holistic, wellness-based chiropractic studio located on Main Street in Grapevine, Texas, so we focus on serving whole families. So we see a lot of prenatal, pediatric and then just a lot of families of all ages and we really focus in on helping aid the nervous system and getting our nervous system at ease so that our body can heal the way that God designed it. And so of course we're working on a little bit of the symptoms but also making sure that we're getting everyone's nervous system so a little bit more chilled and a little bit out of that fight or flight and making sure that they feel seen and safe and supported.
Speaker 2:Now, Jenna, it sounds like you're very passionate about what you do. How did you get into this industry to begin with?
Speaker 3:Yeah, it's a good question. So when I was an undergrad, I loved science and I knew I wanted to do something in healthcare. However, I knew that I also wanted to do something more on the holistic side, and so when I was shadowing all these different types of practitioners, I shouted a chiropractor and was instantly sold, and so I moved here to Dallas, went to chiropractic school and then quickly realized that I wanted to open up my own practice because I didn't feel like there was anything in this area. That really was the exact way that I wanted to run my practice, so I wanted it to be a little bit longer appointments. I wanted people to feel very seen and heard, and so I opened the chiropractor really quick after graduation and kind of never looked back and it's honestly been such a blessing. We've helped serve so many people in the DFW community, not just Grapevine so it's honestly been so awesome to see everyone and continue to help people around the area.
Speaker 2:Wow, jenna, sounds like some truly amazing work that you get to do helping others. Now that you get to do helping others, now let's get into it a bit more. What is the most common myth or misconception you get in your industry?
Speaker 3:There's a lot of myths about chiropractic. Actually, I just did a like a big Instagram post on different myths about chiropractic actually, but one big one is that it's not just for back pain. Really, what I'm focusing in when I'm adjusting is taking and looking at any tension patterns that the body is holding and helping your nervous system function, and so really focusing on that whole body healing and making sure that we're not really fixing anything. We're just supporting your body and the natural development and helping the body do what it was created to do, and so we just help support everyone and, yes, we do get rid of a lot of symptoms in the process of getting that nervous system functioning optimally. So it's definitely a big myth, I think, about chiropractic.
Speaker 2:Now, who are your target clients and, in terms of marketing, how do you attract them?
Speaker 3:It's a good question, Obviously, I see a lot of families like I mentioned prior my target customer is definitely seeing.
Speaker 3:I've seen everyone from newborn all the way up to about 65. And so I love seeing whole families, because if mom is functioning properly then baby will kind of mimic her, and so it's really important that we see the whole baby, the whole family, from baby all the way to adult. And then how do I attract customers? I would say Instagram is definitely my big main source, so we're always posting different education content and so continuing to get the education there about some of those myths, like I said, about chiropractic. And then obviously we get a lot of word of mouth as well, so it's been very cool to get those initial people in the door at ChiroCo.
Speaker 2:And then it kind of blossomed from there with a lot of word of mouth. What is one hardship you had to overcome yourself that you would like to share with our listeners today, and how it made you a better and stronger woman?
Speaker 3:It's a good thing to talk about. I definitely would say that opening ChiroCo was obviously a big leap of faith. So I was straight out of grad school. It's very scary to open a business. You got to deal with LLCs and taxes and all these fun things that they don't teach you in chiropractic school. But I would definitely say that one of the big hardships was I opened up in a really small space with the ChiroCo and it was definitely time went through being there for about a year realizing that, man, I'm going to have to pivot because I can really not grow my
Speaker 3:business here and it was really scary to take a leap into a bigger space with a higher overhead. But it's honestly been such a blessing because it's definitely allowed for a more, a better space for my business to grow and to help serve more families. And so I would say that was a big hardship because that just happened within the last year and so it can be kind of scary to take that leap to opening a business and then having to pivot a year in was a lot.
Speaker 2:Now for the other business owners that may be listening to today's podcast. What advice do you have for them if they come into a space where they have to pivot in their business?
Speaker 3:Yeah, that's a good question. I would say just making sure that you're looking at your numbers and working with people who know more than you do. So working really closely with those lawyers and those CPAs and just making sure that you feel like that pivot, that you can afford it and it's not going to add more stress on you, because really when I show up every day.
Speaker 1:I don't want to be worried about the business side.
Speaker 3:I want to be showing up for my clients, right, and so I want to make sure that all that business side is tucked away and then I can tackle it on like a Friday or the weekend. So I'd say my biggest advice is just making sure that you're taking that leap, but also really, really honing in and making sure you're running those numbers before you have to do that.
Speaker 2:Most definitely, I agree with you 100%. Most definitely, I agree with you 100. So, jenna, what is the most um important thing?
Speaker 3:you would like our listeners to take away from the chiroco, I would say just really making sure that when you're seeking chiropractic care, that you find someone who's focusing on the nervous system and not kind of treating you like herded, herded right. So we spend a lot of time with our clients. And so just making sure that you find a chiro that is going to spend time with you, listen to you, make that connection with you and continue to support you and make you feel seen and heard and just spending a little bit more time with you so that we can get that nervous system kind of at bay and at chill, and that you're just not in and out in two seconds, that'd be my biggest thing.
Speaker 2:Now you've spoken a lot about the nervous system. What is the most important thing you would like our listeners to take away from the importance of unblocking that area of the body or stabilizing it? I guess you would say.
Speaker 3:Yeah, no, that's a good question. So I feel like a lot of times we get stuck in what's called fight or flight or sympathetic mode and our body has a hard time down regulating out of it. So we live in a society, especially here in DFW, where it's go, go, go and we a lot of times don't kind of chill and relax down into what we call parasympathetic, which is our rest and digest. So a lot of times people kind of struggle with getting their digestive systems and sleeping well and that's a sign our nervous system is stressed. So, getting outside, getting sunshine, there's so many things that you can help support your nervous system outside of chiropractic or in addition to and so getting your feet in the grass and getting some grounding, like all those things are going to help your nervous system kind of feel at bay, and having a little bit of you time is really helpful so that you can give it your all on the day to day.
Speaker 2:Now is your nervous system associated with what they call cortisol face.
Speaker 3:Oh yeah, absolutely, yeah, so if you are kind of stuck in your adrenals or stuck in fire, flight, that will boost your cortisol Absolutely. So I see that day in, day out here where a lot of women are coming in especially who are really, really stressed and their cortisol is spiking because their body is responding to that stress. So, yes, absolutely.
Speaker 2:Would you agree that a big sign of that is the bloating in the face or in the body where you can see that effect and that will kind of signal to go in to see you?
Speaker 3:Yeah, there's a lot of ways. I feel like a lot of people, like I said, will have like TMJ tension and that's a sign that your nervous system is stressed or they're not sleeping well. But yes, a lot of times when people get will get their blood work drawn and they're like cortisol is out of the roof. So, yes, that is definitely a good way to kind of gauge it Absolutely.
Speaker 2:And where can our listeners go to learn more about the Cairo Co?
Speaker 3:Yeah, absolutely so. I already mentioned earlier that we're really active on our Instagram and our Instagram is at the Cairo Co, and then we have a really good website that we're constantly updating with different blog posts and education. It's the Cairo Cocom, and we also post quite a bit on Facebook, which is the Cairo Co grapevine, and I'd love for you guys to follow just for some different education content. Even if you don't see me, it's good stuff, little tips and tricks that you can do at home as well.
