EP 334: Service Before Profit: The Quiet Advantage of a Local Team With Family Roots

Sophia Yvette

What makes Adam Moore with Mosquito Hunters of Texoma a good neighbor?

Pick the work you want first, then find the industry that fits. That’s the filter Adam Moore used to build Mosquito Hunters of Texoma into a trusted, family-run pest control company serving neighbors across the region. We talk through how a clear personal vision—being outdoors, meeting people, and staying woven into the community—led him to full-service pest control, from termite certifications to comprehensive mosquito control, and why that alignment still powers growth five years in.

Adam takes us back to the freezing early days of door hangers and yard signs, when hustle and proximity mattered more than perfect digital funnels. As the client base grew, those yard signs turned into social proof, while targeted Facebook and Google campaigns added steady demand. We dig into what actually moves the needle: simple messaging, relentless follow-through, and a service philosophy that puts training, customer satisfaction checks, and employee development ahead of short-term profit. The payoff is consistency—fewer bites, fewer callbacks, more neighbors willing to vouch for results.

You’ll also hear why Adam keeps tech in its place. When a prospect enters a zip code on mosquitohunters.com, a real local person calls back—no AI, no maze—because context and trust start on the first contact. We touch on family life, late-night nursing shifts, band and football schedules, and the many ways those community ties compound word of mouth. If you’re building a local service brand—or just want a smarter approach to mosquito control—this conversation offers practical steps you can use tomorrow: align your work with your strengths, show up where your neighbors are, and make service your strategy.

SPEAKER_00:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

SPEAKER_02:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a full-service pest control company? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Adam Moore, with Mosquito Hunters of Texoma. Adam, how are you today?

SPEAKER_01:

I'm doing good. How are you?

SPEAKER_02:

I'm also doing good. Now we are excited to learn all about you and your business. Can you start off by telling our listeners just a little bit about your company?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, so um I own the company. Um my wife kind of does the books, and uh we're a very family-oriented company. So I have uh my head guy, his uh operations manager, his wife works for us as well. Um, we are a full-service pest control company, so we do everything from we're licensed and certified in termite control all the way to taking care of any problems in the house, in the yard. And of course, we're experts in mosquito control as well.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, that is amazing. So, Adam, why isn't your wife on here with you today?

SPEAKER_01:

She has a second job, so she's a nurse up at the hospital. So she works nights and she works hard, she sleeps, she works the concession stand for the kids uh football game to help raise money for the band. So she is a busy little being.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh well, it sounds like you guys make a great team.

SPEAKER_01:

Yes.

SPEAKER_02:

So how did you guys get started in this business?

SPEAKER_01:

So that's a great question. Um, whenever I was looking at what kind of business I wanted to be an entrepreneur in and what to start out the first thing I did was reflect on myself. Um, what what do I want every day? What do I want to wake up to every day? What kind of a person am I? What do I enjoy doing? And so I just got a little list down together on the type of environment, atmosphere that I wanted to work in. You know, a good example would be like, well, I don't want to work in an office, I want to move around outside. I want to be outside and and uh meet different people and and integrate into the community. And had I made that list first. After I made that list, then I started looking into all the different industries and uh that are available to go into business. And with an open mind and and not really caring about what it landed on, I just decided I'm whichever industry fit that the best, that's what I was gonna do. And lo and behold, to my surprise, this is where I landed. So it was a it was a big surprise to me, but it met the kind of person I was. So that's kind of how I picked out and how to why I was gonna do pest control.

SPEAKER_02:

Amazing. Now you're still a business owner today, so what kept you in the industry?

SPEAKER_01:

Uh grit and determination for sure. Um, you know, visions and goals, you know, visions of sugar plums and fairy tales, you know. So you have to wake up with a vision to continue to go. We've been in business for five years now. Uh first five years is definitely the most difficult. And, you know, if you don't wake up with with vision and goal and just a refusal to quit, then you'll definitely knock yourself out pretty quick. So that's what's kept me in it.

SPEAKER_02:

Amazing. Yes, we could have a very long conversation about that, but we don't have time for that today. So switching gears, you know, marketing is the heart of every business. How are you currently marketing your business? And who are your target customers, audience, or clients?

SPEAKER_01:

So we use um pretty much all levels of marketing. Um, you know, at first, whenever we started, I was doing door hangers by myself and the freezing weather, and just really doing door hangers and yard signs and and leaving the digital marketing up to a marketing team. And uh now things have changed. Um, we still use all platforms, but we're blessed with a lot higher customer base. So we help you to they allow us to use their yards with you know uh yard signs and stuff like that, which is almost just as good as a referral. So um, but we pretty much do everything. We do door hangers, yard signs, all social media, Facebook, Google, um, all across the board.

SPEAKER_02:

Now, have you ever thought about having your own podcast?

SPEAKER_01:

I have not. No, I I'm not a big uh computer guy. So I'm kind of uh, you know, grew up in the old uh no internet days and and you know, you had the house phones and that was it. I like staying away from computers and and from technology as much as I can and integrate myself in with everything around me. So I've never really just kind of wanted to dive into that.

SPEAKER_02:

Okay. Now, outside of work, what do you and your family like to do for fun?

SPEAKER_01:

Well, for now, we pretty much stay busy with their activities that they do at school. So um I have two teenagers, uh, one's a senior and one's a sophomore, and one does band and one does color guard and the other one does football. And so we're pretty much tied up from Thursday to Saturday, and then we try to utilize that time in between to get a little bit of rest in. So we're we're staying busy parents right now.

SPEAKER_02:

So, Adam, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about mosquito hunters of Texoma.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, I think the best thing to remember is um we because we're a kind of a family-oriented company, um, we put all of our resources and all of our changes in our company uh towards making service better for our customers, um, whether it be training, whether it be more programs to check our customers whether they're satisfied or not, or um better our employees, which will in turn, you know, better uh the service for our customers. So we're one of those companies that take those things into mind so that whenever we bring service to our customers, I mean, we're not going to be perfect, of course, but um everything we do is to drive towards our customers, and then we let the uh the profit, we let the money, we let all that stuff uh work its way out on the back end just for our great service that we try to bring to everybody.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, as I always say, it's about progression, not perfection.

SPEAKER_01:

That's right.

SPEAKER_02:

So, Adam, what our listeners really want to know today is where can they go to learn more about mosquito hunters of Texoma?

SPEAKER_01:

Well, you can Google. Um, that's one of the easiest things. Just go to the website that'll direct you to the website or the phone number, or you can just go to mosquitohunters.com and enter your zip code, request a quo, enter the zip code, and somebody from my office will get a hold of you and talk to you and see what's going on. Um, it is somebody local that that we do hire an employee, so it's a real person, no AI. Um, it's supporting local jobs in the community, and we'll reach directly out to you.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, Adam, I really appreciate you being on the show. We wish you and your business the best moving forward.
