Good Neighbor Podcast: Frisco

EP 382: Stop Filming And Start Compressing

Sophia Yvette

What makes James Johnson with Heart to Heart Mobile Medical Solutions a good neighbor?

James believes lifesaving moments shouldn’t be left to chance—or frozen by fear. In this episode, we sit down with the instructor behind Heart to Heart Mobile Medical Solutions to explore how a few simple skills can turn a moment of panic into purposeful action. James breaks down the real barriers that stop people from helping, the hands-on drills that build confidence, and the mindset that keeps you steady when someone needs help right now.

James shares the personal turning point that shaped his mission: losing his grandmother to cardiac arrest before he had the training to intervene. Later work with youth and in mental health settings exposed him to opioid-related emergencies, reinforcing the urgency of practical, accessible training. That combination set his course—to take CPR, first aid, and Narcan education directly to the people who need it most. From classrooms and warehouses to camps and community centers, James meets people where they are and equips them to act.

We dive into what truly saves lives: high-quality chest compressions, early AED use, and a clear action plan—not perfection. James explains how naloxone fits into the life-saving chain when overdose leads to respiratory arrest, and why confidence matters as much as technique. We also explore the cultural side of emergencies—why bystanders often record instead of respond, how to stay calm under pressure, and how to coordinate quickly so helping becomes the default instead of watching.

James shares his long-term vision for communities where lifesaving skills are as common as fire drills, along with plans to expand outreach through a growing online presence, social education, and possibly a podcast focused on quick, actionable safety tips. The message is clear: preparedness isn’t fear-based—it’s empowering.

If you’ve ever wondered what to do in an emergency, or how to make your workplace and family safer, this conversation offers a clear place to start.

SPEAKER_01:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

SPEAKER_02:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of mobile medical solutions? Well, some may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, James Johnson, with Heart to Heart Mobile Medical Solutions. James, how are you today?

SPEAKER_00:

I'm doing fantastic. I'm doing fantastic.

SPEAKER_02:

Awesome. Now we're excited to learn all about you and your unique business. Can you start off by telling us just a little bit about your company and your backstory?

SPEAKER_00:

Yes. My company is designed to ensure people to uh uh be comfortable with saving lives, right? What it does, I do uh I do uh I'm an independent uh CPR instructor and I go around uh the United States, all 50 states, but I'm uh my domain here is in the DFW. And I um uh a CPR instructor and I teach people how to save lives. I feel that uh from my background and my experience and um and also the challenges that I have faced uh up to this moment that I outside of the medical field deserves to know how to be able to save a life just in case emergency may occur, right? Because emergency can occur at any time and anywhere. A lot of people was willing to help if they knew exactly what to do and if they're prepared, right? So I'm the one that likes to uh prepare them and get them ready for emergency just in case it may uh occur.

SPEAKER_02:

Now, getting a little bit more into your backstory, how did you originally get involved in a business like this?

SPEAKER_00:

Well, um it's a few things. One of them, uh I was raised by my grandmother and uh she went into cardiac arrest. And I didn't have the skills or the knowledge to be able to help her, right? So maybe she could have uh lasted a little longer if I knew what to do. Um, but unfortunately, I was not experienced or anything or nothing like that. And then I chose to go to the uh medical field um with youth, and then also the mental health field. A lot of uh things that happened with uh cardiac arrest due to uh opiate overdoses, um, a lot of different things. So uh one of them was the main incident that happened with me, and uh he was 15 years old and had to be resuscitated.

SPEAKER_01:

Wow.

SPEAKER_00:

So I uh I felt that it was just uh needed that everyone, even outside of the medical field, need to uh have this skill. First with the CPR. And I also do uh Narcan training too as well, you know, to uh help people understand the uh the importance of the opiate overdose and the uh epidemic that's going on and what we can do to have steps just in case we run into that emergency uh with someone who's uh in a crisis at that moment.

SPEAKER_02:

Now, thank you for sharing that with the audience today. And what is your long-term mission with mobile medical solutions?

SPEAKER_00:

Well, if possible, my long-term mission would be that uh everyone will uh at least have the skills to be able to uh save someone or be able to uh attempt to save someone with the skills with the uh CPR, even if it's just basic. You know, that is if I can teach everyone to do it from uh kindergarten uh to 80, 88, it doesn't matter, right? Uh because everybody's lives matter, and that's that that will be my goal there, far as on the CPR aspect.

SPEAKER_02:

Now, switching gears for just a second, we know marketing is the heart of every business. Who are your ideal clients, customers, or audience? And in terms of marketing today, how do you stay in front of them?

SPEAKER_00:

That's a great question. Um, because I have a broad band of audience, right? Um, I teach the uh the youth uh uh first in schools. Um also like uh when they out of school during summer, I get with uh uh like different summer camps and also teach them there. I teach in the medical field first, like BLS and also um first aid. So that can be daycare centers, um warehouses, you know, uh industrial workers, things of that nature. So there's like no cap or no certain type of audience that I'm just catering to, to be honest.

SPEAKER_02:

Now, how do you stay front and center in front of them when it comes to online visibility?

SPEAKER_00:

Online visibility. Um, I do have my uh my website that everyone can go to. Um, I'm also working on a social media platform um that I'm putting together at this moment. So that will be available next year. I also have a commercial that will be coming out next year. You know, of course, right now, that's what I have going on, and it will be available next year.

SPEAKER_02:

Now, have you ever thought about having your own podcast to extend your mission?

SPEAKER_00:

Um, I have thought about it. And some uh some friends of mine that uh some business associates uh have highly recommended me to do that too, as well, as well as family members. They say I have the voice and uh the personality to do it. So um I guess I will uh embark on that challenge, you know, when that challenge comes up. But yeah, I would I would love to do it. Like what you doing, Miss Sophia.

SPEAKER_02:

Now, switching gears for a second, back to your business. What is the number one must when it comes to saving somebody's life?

SPEAKER_00:

The number one must for me is heart, right? You have to have heart in order to save a heart and the skills part. Anyone say, hey, I can get down there, I can do CPR. If they don't know exactly what they're doing, they can do more harm than saving their life. So that's very important to me that the people know exactly, have the skill set in the mindset in the heart to really do it. Okay, because um a lot of times people will freeze up and and they panic, right? Because that's a mercy situation. It can be their loved one or a friend or a total stranger, they will always freeze up. So I would want to remain calm and be confident in a skill set to be able to save that person's life because that person's uh is very important, or at least, you know, attempt to be able to do it. But the skill sets is definitely uh very, very highly important.

SPEAKER_02:

James, any final words of wisdom for audience today when it comes to mobile medical solutions?

SPEAKER_00:

Um, I would just say, you know, um I will want to bring you guys from the other side of the camera. Everyone uh do a lot of videotaping and recording and emergency situation, and you got to understand that can be your loved one as well, that's on the other side of that camera. So I want to take you from the recording side to be able to save someone's life on the other side. And that's what uh Heart to Heart Mobile Solutions is about.

SPEAKER_02:

And where can our listeners go to learn more about Heart to Heart Mobile Medical Solutions?

SPEAKER_00:

Uh, yes. Um, they can go to my website, which is uh Heart to Heart. That's Heart with the uh number two, Heart Mobile Solutions, uh Mobile Medical Solutions.com. You just go to my website and you can uh uh see a lot of things that we do and a lot of other things that we're upgrading to be bringing to uh the DFW as well.
