EP 393: With Authentic Core Care, Care Starts At The Core of Early Development
What makes Dr. Alexia Rickard with Authentic Core Care a good neighbor?
Dr. Alexia believes calmer babies, easier feeds, and steadier postpartum days often begin with clearer communication between the brain and body. In this episode, we sit down with the founder of Authentic Core Care to explore prenatal and pediatric chiropractic through a root-cause lens—one that centers nervous system regulation and supports families through the often-overlooked “fourth trimester.” Her mission is deeply personal: after discovering chiropractic as a child when conventional testing fell short, and later surviving two life-threatening birth experiences, Dr. Alexia felt called to serve moms and babies with both precision and compassion.
Across a heartfelt, fast-moving conversation, Dr. Alexia addresses common myths—like chiropractic being “only for pain”—and explains how gentle, neurologically focused adjustments support function, not just symptom relief. She breaks down how subluxations can affect digestion, sleep, latch, and mood, and why restoring nervous system communication can amplify everything families are already doing right, from lactation support to nutrition. We talk candidly about colic and reflux-like symptoms, why “they’ll grow out of it” can overlook deeper patterns, and how early, thoughtful intervention can support long-term development and peace of mind.
You’ll also hear about her donation-based care model, designed to remove cost barriers so parents never have to choose who gets support. We get practical about building a support network, asking for help without guilt, and redefining success in early parenthood—not as perfection, but as regulation, connection, and sustainability. If you care about maternal health, infant wellness, and community-centered care, this conversation offers clarity, reassurance, and a hopeful path forward.

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.
SPEAKER_01:Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a chiropractor? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today, I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Dr. Alexia Rickard with Authentic Core Care. Dr. Alexia, how are you today? I'm great. Thank you. Thank you for having me. Yes, now we are excited to learn all about you and your business. Can you start off by telling our listeners just a little bit about your company? Yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_02:So my name is it's Authentic Core Care. And the reason I named it that is because I believe authenticity should be the core of everything that we do. And I help, I specialize with prenatal and pediatrics. I love to help moms and kids and get to the core root of what's going on within their health and help support them through that process of pregnancy, birth, and then postpartum, and then taking care of their babies afterwards. So I see all families too, but that's my specialty, and I love serving those families. When I was 10, um a chiropractor pretty much saved my life. Medical doctors weren't able to figure out really what was wrong. We did labs, all kinds of stuff. And um my mom had heard about a chiropractor in Arlington who could help, and she took me and they really changed my life, changed my perspective. And when I was 12 years old, I remember looking at her, looking at her and saying, This is what I'm gonna do for a living. And I did it. My perspective has changed throughout the years. Um I had I have two beautiful kids, three and one, and um almost died twice during childbirth, sadly. And I and then postpartum was like this whole other bear, and I was like, okay, I want to fill in the gap for fourth trimester because I feel like maybe we're lacking some of that in our society, and support those moms, support those babies. There's so many issues that can happen with latching and colic symptoms and moms having all these hormonal imbalances, and I was like, I want to be helpful, the person to help in those situations because I didn't get as much with myself. So that is where my heart really is, and it's changed over the years to really go in that direction.
SPEAKER_01:Wow. Wow. It sounds like you have certainly overcome so much to get to this point that you're at today. Now, switching gears back to your industry for a second, what is that most common myth or misconception you come across on the day-to-day that you want to put to rest today? Yes. Oh, I love this question so much.
SPEAKER_02:Um, two big misconceptions is that chiropractic is only for pain. Um, otherwise, I would never adjust children because children are rarely or shouldn't be right, like in pain, especially babies at that young of an age. Um, chiropractic is so much more than that. We're dealing with the nervous system, which is the brain and the spinal cord that controls everything else in the body. And if anything's out of alignment in those bones that I'm adjusting, it impacts the nerves and that area that goes to cells, tissues, and organs. And so adjustments are for function. There's so much more than pain. Yes, I can help pain, but more importantly, I help with the function of people. And so that's a huge misconception that is that it's only for pain when it's so much deeper than that. Um, another big one that I really love is uh to talk about is that your children will just grow out of it with colic symptoms and things like that. Oh, they'll just gonna get past it, just hang on, you know what I mean, for a few months and it'll get better. Yes, you know, there's occasions where that is the case, but sometimes it leads to deeper rooted issues in their later childhood years or even adult years. And so I like to get to the root cause when we can so that way it doesn't lead to further problems. So those are some of the two biggest ones that that are there that I try to address if I practice.
SPEAKER_01:And what often is the root cause of some of those issues?
SPEAKER_02:So it can be it can be twofold. And I think one of the biggest things though is a nervous system. If we if we can you know impact the most important system in the body, like I was saying, with you know, the brain and the spinal cord, if we can get rid of the interference that's there, which is usually a misalignment, it's a subluxation, is what I deal with, which is a dysfunction of the nervous system in the area. And if I can get rid of that subluxation, the body is amazing. Like I think we were created amazingly, and so we can heal when we remove that interference. So we can add in a bunch of other stuff like supplements and diet, you know, meaning good support, which I do think are important. But if we're not getting to that root cause of that interference in the body, then a lot of times I'm not getting anywhere until we do that. And I can do that as a day old, you know, with babies.
SPEAKER_01:So wow, so many questions for you today, Dr. Alexia. But let's go ahead and switch ears again for a second. Now we know marketing is the heart of every business. So who are some of your target customers or audience, maybe age range and where they start? Um, and how do you attract them today?
SPEAKER_02:I actually am purely word of mouth. Um, I do a little bit with social media sometimes, but I really got my feet on the ground with just being word of mouth. Um, I know that sounds a little wild, but I love it. Um, I love being that kind of business just because other moms will trust other moms, you know what I mean, who've gone through difficulty. And so I get a lot of a lot of people through word of mouth. That is actually my main, my main source.
SPEAKER_01:Wow. Now, with addressing so many of these misconceptions and having so much great information, have you ever thought about having your own podcast before?
SPEAKER_02:I have. I really have. I think it would be a lot of fun. And I I think one of my favorite parts of my job is obviously dealing with the babies and the moms, but I do love education. I I think it's huge. And I think having a podcast would be a great outlet for me, you know, to be able to get things out. Um, it's you know, timing, trying to find the time to do some of those things. But yes, I have thought about it.
SPEAKER_01:Now, outside of work, what do you and your family like to do for fun?
SPEAKER_02:So, oh boy, having a three and a one-year-old, and like, what is that? What is doing out, what is doing fun things outside of work? No, I mean, I just I love spending time with my family. Um, my husband and I actually play volleyball. We love doing that. Um, we even met doing basketball together um way back in the day. So we love sports, and so that's a really nice outlet that we have. And then on the weekends, I try to make that my sacred time with my kids. So we just take them to parks and all kinds of fun stuff together with them.
SPEAKER_01:So yeah, we just love spending time as a family. Beautiful, beautiful balance. Now, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember today about authentic core care.
SPEAKER_02:The biggest thing I want people to take away to think about, because it really changed my perspective over the years, is with a dysregulated nervous system, which can come through numerous avenues, um, we can throw all the diet changes, all the supplements, all the working out, you know what I mean, all the things, all the good things added. But if we don't address the root cause, our body's not going to be able to accept those tons of things that we're adding on. So if we're able to add in things like adjustments to get to that root cause, to you know remove that interference that's happening in the nervous system, along with all the other big changes we're trying to make, which are great changes, I think people are able to unlock the potential of themselves, their innate potential.
SPEAKER_01:Wow. Now, since you work with so many new mothers and soon-to-being mothers, what is the number one piece of advice you have for them when it comes to making sure they have a healthy pregnancy and um for that first year as well?
SPEAKER_02:To get support. I think one of the biggest things for moms is maybe sometimes we're afraid to ask for help and to ask for people what we really need. And I encourage them to tell me what they really need and to see if there's a way that I can be helpful. And um, one of the biggest things I also wanted to mention is I'm donation-based. I wanted to bring that up. Um, people pay whatever they want for an adjustment, and I do that so that families can afford care, they don't have to pick and choose, you know, who gets seen because of money. And that is that's something I'm very passionate about. And I tell my moms that so that they feel safe and they don't have to worry about the financial burden, right, that comes with health care in general. So um I want my moms to be able to ask when they need something. I will provide them my community. I know a lot of people who can help in certain areas, especially with like postpartum. Postpartum can be really hard. And I want moms to know that they're supported in that process. And um, that's the biggest thing. And honestly, that they're doing a great job. I try to tell the moms always, like, what's next? What do I need to do? How do I need to do this right? And I'm like, you are doing it right. You're showing up here, you're taking care of yourself and baby. Um, you're both alive, you're feeding yourselves. Like it's you're you're doing it right. You you don't need to be doing the next best thing all the time.
SPEAKER_01:So and where can our listeners go to learn more about authentic core care? Yeah, definitely.
