What makes Lindsay Walden with Lindsay Walden Photography a good neighbor?
Lindsay believes portrait sessions should feel calm, personal, unrushed and should result in images that live with you, not just on a hard drive. In this episode, we sit down with the Colleyville, Texas photographer whose work spans newborn and maternity portraits, family and senior sessions, and imaginative underwater maternity shoots that turn fleeting seasons into lasting art. Her journey from scuba photographer to “baby whisperer” reveals how technical skill and deep care can work together to create images that feel timeless, not trendy.
Lindsay gently addresses one of the biggest myths in her field: that newborn photos must happen within a tiny window or they’re not worth doing. She explains why she never turns families away, how baby-led posing keeps safety at the center, and the soothing techniques she uses to comfort sleepy, gassy, or colicky little ones. We also talk about what it actually feels like to be supported through a session from thoughtful preparation and design guidance to wardrobe options, styling help for the whole family, and post-session support that makes printing albums and wall art feel manageable instead of overwhelming.
At the heart of the conversation is a powerful idea: what we put on our walls shapes how our children see themselves. Printed portraits aren’t about perfection or performance, they’re daily reminders of belonging, love, and shared story. Whether you’re dreaming of an underwater maternity portrait or hoping to finally print the photos you already love, Lindsay’s approach helps families slow down, feel seen, and turn meaningful moments into a legacy their children can one day hold in their hands.

Meet Photographer Lindsay Walden
SPEAKER_00This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.
SPEAKER_02Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a photographer? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Lindsay Walden, with Lindsay Walden Photography. Lindsay, how are you this morning?
SPEAKER_01I'm amazing. How are you, Sophia?
SPEAKER_02I am also amazing. Now we are excited today to learn all about you and your business. Can you start off by telling our listeners just a little bit about your company?
Services From Newborns To Underwater
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. So Lindsay Walden Photography is based in Colleville, Texas, but we serve clients from all over the DFW, Metroplex, and even beyond that. I specialize in newborn and maternity photography. That's what I'm best known for. But I also offer underwater photography, which is super cool. I had a lot of underwater maternity clients. And I do family and senior sessions as well as milestone sessions. So really I photograph just about everything except for weddings.
SPEAKER_02Wow, Lindsay, you may just be the most diverse photographer I have ever had on the show before.
unknownLove that.
SPEAKER_02Now let's go ahead and get into your background. How did you originally get into this business?
SPEAKER_01Well, I've always loved photography. I've always had a passion for it. I started with underwater photography decades ago as a scuba diver, mainly photographing fish and sharks. And then when I had my own children, I began to love photographing children. When my daughter was born, she's now almost 18, is around the same time that newborn photography was starting to surge. And that was something that I knew that I would love to do. So I started out really primarily as a newborn photographer. I love the babies. I love taking care of mamas, especially right after they have a baby, and photographing their babies in a way that's just timeless and something that they will always love.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I bet you go home with the best feeling at the end of every day.
SPEAKER_01I truly do. It is the best job, especially maternity as well. I love helping women at that stage feel beautiful and just capturing how precious that time is for them. It's a really rewarding job.
Debunking Newborn Age Myths
SPEAKER_02Now, I do have a few more questions for you on that subject, but let's go ahead and switch gears for a second. Now, what is the most common myth or misconception you come across overall as a photographer in your industry?
SPEAKER_01I think, especially for newborn photography, I hear a lot from parents who are sad because they feel like their baby is too old for a newborn photography session. I think some photographers just turn them away. I have never turned anyone away for their newborn session. I can capture beautiful images of their baby at any stage, even if they're already a couple months old. So sometimes we get parents who maybe their baby was in the NICU for a little while, or just life happens and it was hard for them to get in on a schedule. I will take beautiful photos of their baby at any stage. Um, we don't guarantee any specific poses or things like that because every baby's a little bit different, but I can always capture really precious baby images regardless of the baby's age. So that's a common myth that I often hear, and I can reassure my clients and my um parents that we can definitely capture great images of your baby, even if they're several weeks old.
Keeping Babies Calm And Safe
SPEAKER_02Oh, now when it comes to taking those images, do the babies ever get frightened by the camera?
SPEAKER_01No. Uh honestly, at the that stage, um they are very sleepy. I have a lot of um kind of tips and tricks that I use to keep baby comfortable, even with babies who are maybe a little bit gassy, colicky. Um, typically I have methods that will get them to feel really comfortable, um, different poses that I know will work for the babies who are maybe um don't want to be on their tummy, things like that. Most parents want to take me home at the end of their session just because I'm really good with babies. I work with them day in and day out. So I can kind of read them. I've never had to cancel and reschedule a newborn session. I can always get the images that I need. Um, just it requires a lot of patience and staying very calm. Sometimes I liken it to being like someone who would be diffusing a bomb. We just have to be very careful and delicate and take really good care of them.
Crafting A Luxury Client Experience
SPEAKER_02Most certainly. Now let's switch gears again. We know marketing is the heart of every business. You've kind of gone over who your target customers usually are. So, in terms of your online footprint, how do you attract them?
SPEAKER_01Um, I really focus on the experience. I do offer a more luxury-styled um photography experience for my clients. So I really hold their hand from the beginning all the way through end. Um, as far as wardrobe, I have a collection of over 200 beautiful gowns for moms to choose from, different looks they can use, whether it's for a newborn session, maternity, or a family session. Um I help with styling for the whole family. We have outfits for girls, for little boys, and I can make recommendations on what dads should wear for their sessions. We also have professional hair and makeup services available. Really, my goal is to make sure that their session is super easy and fun. Um, we plan the session out in advance, usually with a complimentary design consultation. Clients love that. It's a great opportunity to meet me before their session. And then after the session, I meet with them again to help them pick out their favorite images, make any final editing, retouching requests that they might have. And then we also take care of printing wall art, uh, albums, things like that. So clients don't have to worry about anything. We really just want to make the experience as fun and easy as possible.
Why Printed Photos Matter
SPEAKER_02Wow, so much knowledge to share with us today, Lindsay. Now, have you ever thought about having your own podcast before?
SPEAKER_01My own podcast? No, never. I do a lot of education within in the photography industry. So um I'm teaching a lot and um I do most of that in person. I'm very, I love hands-on in-person type teaching. Um, but thank you. That would be that's a great idea. It would be super fun.
SPEAKER_02Now we can get back to talking about babies here for a second. So um going back to you being a newborn photographer, what is the number one thing you would like our audience today to take away from learning about your services?
Advice For New Parents
SPEAKER_01I think just the importance of capturing photos of our children, whether it's as a newborn or as they get older. As a mom myself, I just know how important it is for my children to know how loved they are. Um, and of course, we can show them that in many different ways. But I really feel like the things that we put up on our walls matter. And I want my children to know how important they are to me. So having lots of photos of them up on the walls, so that's that daily reminder to them of just how important they are in our lives. And that's part of why I do what I do. Being able to look back through, say, a photo album with my children and um, especially from maternity or newborn session, and just tell them what it was like to experience being pregnant with them, how much I've loved them from the moment that I knew that they were mine. That's, I think, why I do what I do. Um, so our families are the different generations know how valuable they are to their parents and what they mean to us.
SPEAKER_02And for our listeners out there who may be new mothers themselves or new families themselves, new parents, what is one piece of advice you have for them before they go into taking these wonderful pictures?
SPEAKER_01Hmm, one piece of advice that's so hard. I think um really go with your gut. Uh as a parent, I learned that long ago that um you can do all the research on um what doctors to choose, what photographer to choose, um, but whatever feels right, I think um we have an instinct as as moms, as parents, and and I think um go with what you feel like is best for your child.
SPEAKER_02Yes, trust that intuition always. Now, one final question for you today, because what our listeners really want to know is where can they go to learn more about Lindsay Walden photography?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. So my website is a great resource that has lots of information about our sessions, what you can expect, lots of examples of different types of sessions and actual client sessions. You can look through the portfolio there. And then there's a contact form there where you can fill that out and we will uh reach back out to you, usually within 24 hours and schedule a phone call so that I can chat with you. I really want my clients to understand the process and who I am and what I'm all about. And I want to learn a little bit more about what they're looking for and make sure that we're a really good fit.
SPEAKER_02Well, Lindsay, I really appreciate you being on the show today. We wish you and your business the best moving forward. Thank you. Appreciate it.
