What makes Justin Henderson with Lone Star Boys Contracting a good neighbor?
Tired of dated tile, sticky drawers, and a shower that never quite feels clean? We sat down with Justin Henderson, owner of Lone Star Boys Contracting, to pull back the curtain on what real-quality remodeling looks like in Collin County and beyond—and why chasing the lowest bid often leads to blown budgets and lingering headaches.
Justin’s journey from the oil field to high-end bathrooms and kitchens gives him a unique, all-angles view of the renovation process. He shares actionable tips for vetting contractors: how to read a scope of work, what a transparent payment schedule looks like, and the must-ask questions about waterproofing, dust control, and warranties. We talk about the clients they serve—often homeowners ready to elevate tired spaces—and the design choices that make a room both beautiful and durable, from smart material selection to hardware that stands up to daily use.
The heart of the conversation centers on culture and care. Justin explains how a team-first approach drives craftsmanship, communication, and respect for a client’s home, from floor protection to final punch list. Expect straight talk on common myths, red flags in proposals, and the site etiquette that separates true pros from the rest. If you’re planning a kitchen or bathroom remodel, this conversation will help you set clear goals, avoid budget traps, and choose a contractor who stands behind the work.

Welcome And Guest Intro
SPEAKER_00This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.
What Lone Star Boys Does
SPEAKER_01Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a contractor? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Justin Henderson, with Lone Star Boys Contracting. Justin, it is great to have you on today. Now we are so excited to learn all about you and your business. Please start off by telling our listeners today a little bit more about your company.
SPEAKER_02Well, thank you for having me on the Good Neighbor podcast, Sophia. I appreciate it. Yeah, we're uh we're a uh professional remodeling company here in Collin County. We service uh the surrounding communities as well. We specialize in uh high-end um bathroom and kitchen remodels, and we offer full house remodels as well.
Justin’s Path From Oil To Remodeling
SPEAKER_01Wow. Now, Justin, how did you originally get into this industry?
SPEAKER_02Well, that's an interesting story. I I was in the oil field for uh several years and uh had an injury uh that I could not go back to the oil field, so I had to switch careers and uh landed in remodeling uh in a sales position and work my way up to becoming a business owner.
The Lowest Bid Myth
SPEAKER_01Wow. Now, today, with so much experience in your industry, what is that number one misconception you would like to put to rest today?
SPEAKER_02Well, there's a lot of misconnect uh misconceptions, and there's a lot of myths. Uh probably the biggest one I deal with on a daily basis is uh, you know, that if you go get three bids, uh, you're gonna get the same quality with the lowest bid out there. And that's just uh that's that's just a huge misconception. Um, it's best for a homeowner to do their due diligence and the in the type of project that they're asking to be requested. Um, the lowest number is not always uh the lowest number and sometimes can cost you double in the end.
Ideal Clients And Elevating Spaces
SPEAKER_01Well, thanks for filling us in, Justin. Now let's switch gears for a second. Now we know that marketing is the heart of every business. So today, who are some of your ideal clients or audience and how are you attracting them, especially on the online front?
SPEAKER_02Uh the the biggest customers we have right now is mostly uh mostly women in their uh in the communities here looking to improve their outdated and uh and uh old uh materials in their bathrooms, just tired of looking at it. We like to elevate the spaces around them. We like to bring the the spaces that uh we remodel and renovate uh up to their personal desires and what makes them feel good about their home.
Considering A Company Podcast
SPEAKER_01Wow. Now, with you having so much great information, have you ever thought about taking that information and having your own podcast for your business before?
SPEAKER_02I have. That's definitely been on the back burner for quite some time. I actually bought all the equipment to do so, uh, just never really uh put it into play. We're uh we're we're kind of busy right now, so uh it's an industry that I don't know a lot about. So I kind of go on other people's podcasts and kind of uh showcase myself there, but putting it in, putting in the work to do it myself is is kind of a goal and a dream, I guess.
Teamwork, Craftsmanship, And Care
SPEAKER_01Understood. Now, circling back to your business here, what is the number one takeaway you would like our listeners to gather from Lone Star Boys Contracting?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so Lone Star Boys Contracting uh is a team. Uh, you know, a lot of people think that uh contractors and and subcontractors are out there to cut corners and just to get the job done as fast as they can and you know and to get paid, and that's just not the case. We've we've assembled an amazing team uh around us where everybody has bought into that team concept. Uh the craftsmanship, the quality, uh, the care for the home that we're in and the homeowners is is vital to our survival, and everybody has bought into that concept and it's it's worked itself out really well.
