What makes Joshua Gordan with Big Tex Pest Solutions a good neighbor?
Tired of contracts and quick fixes that never seem to stick? Meet Joshua Gordan, the local pro behind Big Tex Pest Solutions, who’s reshaping pest control for North Texas with a neighbor-first approach focused on honest work and real results. We talk about the everyday threats—ants, spiders, roaches, and fire ants—and how tailored treatments, careful product selection, and a clear process deliver safer homes and yards across McKinney, Frisco, Plano, Allen, and beyond.
Joshua shares why he walked away from big-box rules to build a company that earns trust one visit at a time. He breaks down the biggest myths: that DIY chemicals are enough, and that there’s a magic wand that makes pests disappear forever. Instead, he explains how effective pest management blends correct identification, targeted application, and homeowner cooperation. Expect practical tips on sealing entry points, setting realistic timelines, and understanding how seasonal shifts and lawn care habits shape pest pressure in North Texas.
We also explore marketing as a small business—why referrals drive growth, how Facebook helps build community, and where education fits into the customer journey. Joshua even floats a compelling idea: a regional podcast that combines lawn care insights with integrated pest management, featuring local experts and seasonal advice. Plus, hear how Big Tech Turd Wranglers, his pet waste cleanup service, helps curb fly breeding and keeps backyards cleaner for kids and pets.
If you want pest control without long-term contracts or cancellation fees—and a pro who explains what’s happening at every step—this story will resonate. Subscribe, share with a neighbor who needs help, and leave a review to tell us the biggest pest challenge at your home.

Welcome And Guest Intro
SPEAKER_01This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.
SPEAKER_02Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a pest solutions company? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing our good neighbor, Joshua Gordon, with Big Tech's Pest Solutions. Joshua, it is so lovely to have you on today. Now we are so excited to learn all about you and your business. Please start off by telling our listeners just a little bit more about Big Tech's Pest Solutions.
Why Joshua Started The Company
SPEAKER_00Well, uh, it's a local family-owned company that we started serving um North DFW area. That's McKinney, Frisco, Plano, Allen, you know, kind of Collin County, along with part of Denton County and uh going up to Grayson County a little bit. Um, you know, we try to you know specialize in all the residential issues that you may have, ants, spiders, roaches, and uh, you know, we just try to do things uh with no contracts and just try and get results. And so we try and focus on doing the honest work.
SPEAKER_02Joshua, let's go back in time here for a second. Go ahead and tell our listeners how you originally got started in this industry.
SPEAKER_00Well, I really started it because I was working at some of these other companies and I got really tired of being told to do things, you know, to where there weren't the like you could do things, you know in your heart you could do things better the first time around and get good results. But these big box companies that you work for, they make you do things, you know, a certain way that you know is not the best. And um I just want to make sure that um, you know, I'm doing solid work for people, giving them honest solutions, you know, and just providing the best, you know, problem solving that we can, and that's what makes me feel best, is that knowing that I'm in charge, I get to set what products I use, um, you know, how I go about doing things, the steps I take to ensure that people get good solutions.
SPEAKER_02Now, when it comes down to giving good solutions, what is that most common misconception you come across that you would like to address today? I mean, you clearly have a heart for this.
SPEAKER_00Well, the there's a few common misconceptions, and I would say um one of them is I can do all this myself, it's super easy. Um, you can access the products that we use, but knowing how to use them is something else, and knowing how to use what products for what past um is usually what separates us. And I would say the other thing too on that is the steps that you take. Yes, you could get the products, but getting all the products I use for all the different issues that I deal with, you know, it would cost one person a lot of money to do for just their own house. So um another one is I would say the second most common misconception is there's a magic wand for pests, and if I if you call me, I can come in, wave it, and you'll never see a pest again. Unfortunately, that's just not how it works. And it takes work to be done and it takes some patience and um working together, truthfully, which is what I enjoy working together with people.
SPEAKER_02Well, Joshua, we're gonna switch gears here for a second. Now, let's talk about growth. We know marketing is the heart of every business. So, today, you know, who are some of those ideal customers that you want to help and how are you attracting them?
SPEAKER_00Well, we want to help, I guess primarily would be homeowners. Um, those are the people that are trying to protect their house from ants, spiders, all that stuff, you know. Um, if you care about letting your kids run out in the lawn without having to be afraid of the fire ants, you know, crawling up their leg and biting them all over the place, you know, those are the people that we're trying to reach out to and provide these solutions for. Um, as far as marketing goes, we are very small, so I would say the majority of my business right now is from referrals. Um, I'm also active on Facebook. Um, I have a Instagram, but I'm an older guy, so uh I don't really know how to use those as well as like uh, you know, some some of the younger kids out there. So I'm just uh you know trying to do what I can in all those spaces to promote myself and promote the business.
SPEAKER_02Well, Joshua, in terms of promoting yourself and the business, have you ever thought about having a podcast for your company before?
SPEAKER_00You know, I've thought about what I'd really like is um I've been in the lawn care industry as well, and I find myself giving advice even though I don't do that stuff myself anymore. I find myself giving advice to people, and I thought it'd be a cool idea to uh to do a podcast just about like the North Texas lawn, pest, like all that stuff, and you know, do interviews with people that have been in the industry and things like that. Um, give people updates on grass types and how they work and how you can make it work in your lawn. Um that would be fun, but uh, and I have the knowledge and all that stuff that would make it really good, I think, but um I don't have the knowledge of how to actually do that technologically, so that might be something that comes in the back burner or later on.
SPEAKER_02Now, switching gears back to the impact of your business for a second, what is the greatest takeaway you would like our listeners to gather from learning about big tech pest solutions today?
SPEAKER_00The biggest takeaway I would like for the listeners of this podcast and anyone looking for pest control is that you know, with big tech's pest solutions, our goal is getting you those solutions. We're not trying to, you know, do a bunch of you know gimmicky stuff or um do like crazy, you know, uh pest setups. We don't want to even do contracts or cancellation fees or any of that stuff. I want to earn your business with every single treatment that I do, and that is my goal whenever I come to your house. I want to make a friend, I want to make sure that your house is protected and earn your business with every service.
