What makes Peter Buffa with Crimson & Quill a good neighbor?

Most of us obsess over what we wear, then treat our homes like an afterthought. Designer Peter Buffa of CrimsonAndQuill.com flips that mindset and makes a bold case: we live in art and we wear art, so our spaces should express the same confidence, taste, and cohesion. We talk about how interior design and floral design work together to create rooms that feel personal, inviting, and unmistakably “you,” not a copy of whatever is trending.

Peter shares his origin story in hospitality, from resort work to Ritz-Carlton VIP relations, where he learned that the smallest details shape how people feel. That background becomes the foundation for Crimson & Quill, a Dallas-based interior design and floral company that has grown through weddings, events, residential projects, and commercial design. He also breaks down one of the biggest misconceptions he hears: thinking you don’t need an interior designer. Starting without a plan often costs more later, because fixing mismatched choices and redoing work is far more expensive than building a cohesive vision from day one.

We also get concrete about what “transformation” looks like, including a Tudor home renovation that balances classic character with modern upgrades, dramatic lighting, and standout stonework. If you care about creating a home that matches your personal style, choosing a designer, or learning how successful creatives grow through referrals and word-of-mouth marketing, this conversation will give you practical clarity and fresh inspiration. Subscribe for more local stories, share this with a friend who’s renovating, and leave a review with your biggest design question.

Meet Peter Buffa And Crimson Quill

From Hospitality To Floral Design

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you native an interior design and floral company? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Peter Buffa, with crimsonandquill.com. Peter, it is great to have you on today. Now we are so excited to learn all about you and your business. Please start off by telling our listeners just a little bit more about your company.

SPEAKER_01

Pleasure to meet you, Sophia. Um, my company was started in 2014. Uh, I had done several interiors and weddings and events at that time, and it's just grown from there. So uh my passion for floral started when I worked for Ritz-Carlton Hotels um when I was 21 years old.

SPEAKER_00

Great, great. Now, getting into your backstory, you know, how did you originally jump into this industry?

SPEAKER_01

Uh my degree was in hospitality administrative services in college. I went to Central Michigan University and I worked at the Soring Eagles Center Resort, and then I also interned at Ritz-Carleton Hotel, and then I opened the Grand Lakes property in Orlando, Florida, and um I moved down there and I was in charge of VIP relations. So I used to make floral arrangements for clients on the fly, and that's how I kind of got inspired with flowers.

The Biggest Myth About Designers

SPEAKER_00

Wow. Now, today, getting a little bit deeper into your industry, what is that most common myth or conception you come across when it comes to flowers and interior design?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I would say most common is people don't need an interior designer. Uh, some people try to do it themselves, and then I have a lot of uh work that I have to redo, and clients spend extra money when they shouldn't have in the first place. So it's best to go with a designer and from the start of a project so that the home or project commercially is cohesive.

How He Finds And Serves Clients

SPEAKER_00

Most definitely. Now let's switch to growth for a second. Now we do know that marketing is the heart of every business. So today, you know, who are some of your ideal target clients and how are you attracting them?

SPEAKER_01

Um, it's word of mouth, really. A lot of my business comes from referrals. So um I have some celebrity clients and I also have some residential clients as well as commercial clients. I do recess fitness, their gym here in Dallas, it's a boutique gym. Um, I do a lot of the interior design as well as floral uh for the front. It's petrified. Um, and I do their moss walls. Um, I've done GameStop and several others, um LASIK eye surgery centers and so on and so forth. And then I also work with um several clients for holiday decor, uh, Cameron Westcott. Um I did her Christmas a few years ago, and I also do floral for her for dinner parties and so on.

Inspiration And The Core Takeaway

SPEAKER_00

So great. Now, have you ever thought about having your own podcast for the business before?

SPEAKER_01

I haven't no. I've joined other podcasts for Resa, Sandbox, and I've also joined my friend Chris in Phoenix. Um he has different podcasts going on every week for different um uh people, but I haven't had my own. I'm just too busy for that.

SPEAKER_00

Now, circling back to your business here, what is the number one takeaway you would like our listeners to gather from learning more about Crimson and Quill.com?

SPEAKER_01

I want you to be inspired. You know, we are living in art, we wear art. Our homes should express the same feeling that um your fashion and design does. So I mean, I see women all the time wearing wonderful handbags and beautiful dresses, and you know, I want your home and your floral to reflect the same. So it should be cohesive, a brand for yourself, if you will. And I want to be comfortable and inviting, and I always try to make all my clients' homes special and unique, and I find different things um to surprise and delight them all the time. So I just want them to be excited about it.

A Tudor Home Transformation Story

SPEAKER_00

Wow. Well, I can tell you really have a heart for this industry. Really quickly, is there a story you'd like to share with our audience of a client that you would helped really transform their space?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I did a tutor uh on the M Streets, and you know, we brought it from um 16 years old to up to date. But I always try to keep the outside of the house looking like the inside of the house, but modernize it. We did a beautiful marble steam room in there. Um Kelly Worsler fixtures and pendants, lighting, um, underneath floating benches, backlit. It's stun is stunning. And their kitchen is a huge waterfall island. It's also underneath lit and um got a huge range hood up there and uh marble black splash. It's just gorgeous. It looks stunning.

Where To Find Crimson And Quill

SPEAKER_00

Wonderful. Now, final question for you today where can our listeners go to learn more about crimsonandquill.com?

SPEAKER_01

Instagram at crimson and quill and then crimsonandquill.com. So my Instagram is pretty up to date. I don't have a lot of design projects on there yet. Um, a lot of clients' homes, they don't want to be photographed as much. Um, but I do have a lot of uh photographs in my portfolio. So if they ever want to reach out to me, DM me on Instagram for Crimson Quill.

SPEAKER_00

Well, Peter, I really appreciate you being on the show today. We wish you and your business the best moving forward.

SPEAKER_01
