What makes Dillon Ashton with VOR-TEX Plumbing a good neighbor?

One small drip can turn into a torn-out wall and a ruined weekend faster than most homeowners expect. We sit down with Dillon Ashton of VOR-TEX Plumbing, a locally owned company based in Aubrey, Texas, to talk about what you should really know before letting anyone work on your pipes, drains, or water lines.

Dillon shares his journey into the skilled trades and why hands-on experience shaped the way he approaches every job today. When you’re calling someone during a home emergency, trust matters and he breaks down what it actually takes to earn that trust in a field where mistakes can be costly.

We also tackle one of the biggest misconceptions in plumbing: that it’s “just a trade” anyone can do. Dillon explains how Texas licensing works, why it can take years of real experience to qualify, and how proper insurance and credentials protect you when something goes wrong. If you’ve ever searched for an “Aubrey TX plumber,” “licensed plumber near me,” or “commercial plumbing,” this conversation will give you a clear checklist for hiring—and help you recognize the difference between a quick fix and quality work.

Beyond the tools, we talk about how VOR-TEX Plumbing is building its reputation the right way—through community relationships, social media presence, and earning those early five-star reviews. You’ll also hear how they handle challenges when a customer isn’t satisfied, because real service shows up in how problems are handled, not just avoided.

If you want to feel more confident the next time something goes wrong in your home, this episode is for you. Subscribe, share it with a neighbor who needs a reliable plumber, and leave a review with the local business you want us to feature next.

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

Meet Vortex Plumbing In Aubrey

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a plumbing company? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Dylan Ashton, with Vortex Plumbing. Dylan, it is great to have you on today. Now we are so excited to learn all about you and your business. Please start off by telling our listeners just a little bit more about your company.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, thanks for having us, Sophia. Um, our company is here based in Aubrey, Texas. Uh, we're locally owned and we specialize in residential and commercial plumbing. Um, so pretty much everyone has to use plumbing. So if you need us, definitely give us a call. We're here and happy to help. So we are uh me personally have about uh 12 years of experience in plumbing. Started right out of high school. So um even though I'm young, I've been around and uh been taking care of things for a long time. So I'm excited to uh start this journey of my own business and uh you know try to get out here and help as many people as I possibly can.

SPEAKER_00

Great. Now you said that you've been doing this since you got out of high school. So originally, you know, what was that backstory that got you into this industry of all industries?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so you know, um going through high school and things like that, uh, I wasn't super book smart, uh, but I did find out very young with playing sports and things like that. I was really good at using my hands, and so uh I kind of got into the trades. My dad's like a master mechanic, and so just throughout my life helping him do some things um through on you know cars and and outside work and things like that, I found very quickly I have a skill in that. And so um, you know, God opened some doors for me to kind of walk through and put plumbing in my lap. So um everything kind of worked in his design. Um, and long story short, we we started in my hometown in Paris and then moved here um with my wife to Denton and uh really started taking on the craft of plumbing and learning things. So um, you know, learning the books and stuff wasn't for me, but being able to actually put my hands on something and really get to learn what that looked like. Um, that's really uh what helped me um in my life, and it's been very, very good for me and my family. And so I'm super grateful for it.

The Biggest Plumbing Misconception

SPEAKER_00

Well, thank you so much for sharing your story with us. Now, let's really dive deeper into your business. What is the number one misconception when it comes to plumbing that you'd like to put to rest for all of our listeners today?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think you know, I think a lot of people know plumbing is very important. Uh, you mess with it a little bit and you'll find out very quickly that um it's pretty complicated. And uh if you mess up one time, it could be very crucial. So um, you know, the misconception is that even though we technically don't go to college and get a degree, um, here in Texas, it actually is a state board um license that you have to uphold to be able to operate and um perform plumbing work, and especially as owning your own company, uh, you have to have certain insurances and certain qualifications to be able to own and practice your own company. Um and so it takes right around eight years to be able to get enough hours to qualify to take your own tests. So there's a lot that goes into it. Um that the public maybe isn't as educated on what all goes into that. And so um, you know, I think that's a misconception that you know everyone can be a plumber and and and they can, um, but there is a lot of time and hard work that goes into being able to know exactly what you're doing so um you can fix things you know the right way the first time.

SPEAKER_00

Dylan, let's shift the conversation to growth for a second. And now at the heart of every business is marketing. So, you know, today who are some of those ideal customers that you're looking to help and how are you attracting them?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so we're we're all over Facebook. Um, with us being new, um, that's the biggest thing that we're trying to um get is is a really good following on our Facebook page. Um, but also on our Google, uh, we have a Google page that um even though we're only um I think right now at this point three months in, we already have 55 star reviews. And so I take a lot of pride in that. Um, you know, our goal as a company is to make sure every customer is fully satisfied. And if they're they're not, we we dive in and try to see why are they not, and that way we can fix that. Um, and and we have a really good following um that of very satisfied customers. Um, as far as the marketing, I mean, we are going out and trying to get um connected with the community, um, doing networking, getting involved in schools in our local church. Um, and we also are recently kind of partnering up with some magazines to be able to get in there and um you know get into some people's homes through some magazines so they can see our brand and our company and uh find a good good plumbing company that they can trust.

SPEAKER_00

Now, in terms of getting your name out there more, have you ever thought about having your own podcast for the business before?

SPEAKER_02

I haven't. Um, I'm pretty camera shy. Uh my wife teases me sometimes and says, you know, I'm the quiet one in the corner. Um, but for some reason, whenever I get on one-on-one with somebody, um, you know, I'm able to have like really good conversations, yeah, um, that that unfold. And so um never really thought about it, but you know, there might be a future.

How To Protect Yourself Hiring Plumbers

SPEAKER_00

Definitely. Now, giving our listeners, you know, just a little bit more insight today. What is that number one takeaway you would like them to walk away with from learning about vortex plumbing?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, um, I think that it's it's easy for a lot of people to kind of come in and say they know how to do plumbing. And uh, you know, we're we're in a time where you know money is it's it's getting tight for a lot of people, and I understand that. And there's people that come in and want to try to do things um the cheap way, and there's a certain um group out there that take advantage of that. And so I I would just recommend to to homeowners out there, make sure you're asking um the people that are working on your plumbing, like, do you hold a license? Do you carry insurance? Because um, you know, if they do something wrong and they give you a false identity or false phone number and you can't get a hold of them, um, you're really in a bad position. And so you want to make sure that someone really knows what they're doing, but not only that, that you're protected in case if something does go wrong, um, you know, you you can go about it the right way.

SPEAKER_00

Now, final question for you where can our listeners go to learn more about vortex plumbing?

SPEAKER_02

So we have a great website. Um, I would recommend visiting our website um at callvtx.com. Um, also, we we do a lot of really cool social media. Uh, I gotta give my wife props on that. She does a great job at making some of our content. So um go on uh on any kind of our our platforms on Facebook or Instagram um at Vortex Plumbing Co. And you can search us up and look at some of our things and definitely at least on Google, give us a look on Google and check out some of our awesome reviews. Um, our website will kind of direct you in some different um directions as well.
