What makes Brandi Bosserman with Bosser House Blooms a good neighbor?

A lot of people picture flower farming as quiet mornings, pretty fields, and effortless bouquets. Then Brandi Bosserman tells the truth—it’s beautiful, demanding work built on systems, stamina, and showing up for every unglamorous step from seed to delivery. We sit down with Brandi, owner of Bosser House Blooms, to talk about how she transitioned out of teaching after COVID, learned quickly, and turned a new property into a recognizable local flower farm and florist business.

Brandi breaks down one of the biggest misconceptions in her industry: the idea that success comes from having a “green thumb.” In reality, it’s about process. From starting seeds and nurturing plants to harvesting, conditioning, and designing arrangements, she walks through the full lifecycle of what it takes to produce thousands of stems. We also talk about sourcing with integrity—how she partners with other farms when needed to provide variety while still supporting local agriculture and reducing the footprint of long-distance supply chains.

Beyond the field, we explore how Bosser House Blooms is growing through community connection. From networking groups and chambers to social media and word-of-mouth, Brandi shares how she’s expanding into corporate clients, conventions, hotels, and restaurant partnerships. She also explains her signature garden-style design, what makes her arrangements instantly recognizable, and why flower farmers have a strong reaction to being asked for “wildflowers.”

At the heart of her brand is a simple promise: “From seed to celebration.” It’s a commitment to quality, creativity, and doing things the right way from start to finish.

If you love supporting local businesses, care about sustainability, or want a behind-the-scenes look at building a creative brand, this conversation is for you. Subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review: what part of the flower business surprised you most?

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

From Teacher To Flower Farmer

SPEAKER_02

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a flower farmer and florist? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today, I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Brandi Bosserman, with Bosser House Blooms. Brandy, it is lovely to have you on today. Now we are so excited to learn more about you and your business. So please start off by telling us a little bit more about Bosser House Blooms.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, um, we're going into year five at Bosser House Blooms. Um probably heard before, made a change after COVID. I was a teacher, and um I was actually just watching YouTube and I was like, hey, I think I can grow flowers. And my husband was like, What? And um it just started from there. We always liked gardening, we moved to a new property, and I was like, someone's gotta grow them. And it was kind of a new thing that was going on nationally. It was it's kind of catching on, and so we just dove in. Um, I think I taught for one more year, and we've been growing and blooming ever since.

SPEAKER_02

So I love that. And where is your husband today?

SPEAKER_01

He is at his real job. He he helps me a lot on the weekends and after hours, but yeah, he he's off site eventually. Um he might retire and and help more full-time, but he and he enjoys what we do here. Um, yeah.

The Hard Work Behind Blooms

SPEAKER_02

Well, Brandy, let's get into some of those misconceptions when it comes to boss or house blooms. You know, what is the most common one you come across, especially being with a flower farmer?

SPEAKER_01

Everyone has this really romanticized idea about what it would be to be a flower farmer. And it's a lot of hard work. I mean, that's that's probably the biggest thing, you know. Um, everything we do is systemized. A lot of people are like, oh, I have a I don't have a green thumb, all these other things. But you can set up systems. I mean, we can grow thousands of stems, and we do bring in other flowers too. So we do both. Um, if my clients want it, I'm gonna find it for them. Um, if I do bring in other stems, I am bringing them directly from other farms though. So that's you know, kind of a thing. We try to lessen the footprint of what we do. Um, but yeah, it's a lot of work. I mean, everything from seed to uh babying that plant to harvesting it to uh cutting it, conditioning it, and getting it out the door. So we we we do that all.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you've emphasized a lot off of hard work. So let me ask you this why do you do it?

SPEAKER_01

It's beautiful hard work. Um, because we get to be a part of people's lives. I mean, flowers touch everything, everything from birth to death and every celebration in between. So um I think that's the main thing. I've I've celebrated with customers, I've cried with customers. Um, I have an amazing memory. I remember people's favorite colors, their flowers, what color not to include. I just know my community really well, and that makes it worth it.

Networking And Finding New Clients

SPEAKER_02

Aw, well, getting into your community a little bit more here. Now we do know that marketing is the heart of every business. So ideally, who are some of the clients that you want to bring a little sunshine to and how are you attracting them?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I'm really big into networking groups and chambers. Um, I think it's my business started growing a lot when I got involved with um local networking groups. Um we do a lot of social media. We do Facebook and Instagram and things, and everyone likes to look at pretty pictures, but it was getting um starting to reach out to those tart those corporate customers. That's something that we're trying to do. We're trying to do like more conventions and hotels and things like that too, and just bringing local flowers. It's I just went to um a seminar about a week ago and they were talking about having local coffee roasting there and and local honey and in their restaurant. And I finally went up to them at the end and I'm like, what about local flowers? And they're like, Yeah, so um I just think it's a cool thing. So um, yeah, and we just did a beautiful wedding this weekend. So we we do all all the events.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, love that now. Have you ever thought about you know having your own podcast for the business before?

SPEAKER_01

I've thought about it just briefly, more like because we watch a lot of YouTube and things like that. I'm always telling my husband, oh, we need to put you know, farmer Paul out there. And um, people always like seeing my husband Paul out there doing things. I don't know, maybe it's a comic relief of it all, but um, I don't think we have the time or the bandwidth at the moment to commit to something like that.

SPEAKER_02

And where are you looking to be most visible this year?

SPEAKER_01

Most visible, is that what you said? Yes. Um and and and what what means do you mean?

Visibility Through Events And Restaurants

SPEAKER_02

Um like what audience, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Um you know, I I love we're in some of the key restaurants around here right now. So um we're promoted um at some restaurants as their their florist that goes out in their packages. So I like being part of those um events like the bridal showers, the graduation parties, things like that. I mean, the the sweet spots, the kind of medium sweet spots are really fun and not stressful. I mean, I love a big wedding, but a big wedding is a lot of work too. And I keep saying work. I think it's Monday.

SPEAKER_02

Well, Brandy, what is that thing that makes a Bosser house bloom so unique?

SPEAKER_01

We are very garden style. So our our and it's funny because we grow them here, but my style is loose and garden-y and things like that. And people see our flowers around town and they're like, I knew that was yours. So we must have a certain I like um, I call them dancer flowers. I like to have a mass of flowers with you know things dancing around. And um, I we very garden style. But not wildflowers. Flower farmers do not like to be um called and say, can you give me wildflowers? Because we do cultivate everything that we grow. We don't go to the side of the road and just cut things down.

Tagline And Where To Find Them

SPEAKER_02

So is there a mission statement you have for your business you want to share with our listeners today?

SPEAKER_01

Um the the the last one, and I don't know if it's a mission statement, is it just a tagline? Is it's from seed to celebration. So we try to cover all of that.

SPEAKER_02

And where can our listeners go to learn more about Bosser House Blooms?

SPEAKER_01

They can go to our website at um www.bosserhouseblooms. We're also on Facebook and Instagram for both of those, also.
