What makes Matthew Karpoff with Texas R&R a good neighbor?

Water damage feels like chaos because it hits your home and your schedule at the same time. We sit down with Matthew Karpoff of Texas R&R to talk through what leaks, storms, and everyday wear actually do to a house—and what homeowners need to understand before costs start stacking up.

Matthew shares how Texas R&R grew from a family legacy in the DFW restoration industry and why he stepped into building a family-owned business focused on helping neighbors through stressful situations. We unpack a major misconception: water damage isn’t just an insurance issue. The real priority is stopping the damage quickly, documenting everything properly, and making smart decisions early.

Homes aren’t waterproof—and they never will be—so moisture intrusion is a reality. What matters most is how you respond in those first critical hours and days.

We also talk about how Texas R&R operates differently, growing through referrals and word of mouth while taking on everything from small repairs to full rebuilds. Matthew shares the values that guide his work: transparency in estimating, clarity in materials, and integrity from start to finish. Whether someone has a small issue or a major loss, his goal is to meet people where they are and help them move forward.

If you’re looking for a restoration company in DFW, need guidance after storm damage, or want to understand what good service should actually look like in a stressful moment, this conversation will give you clarity and confidence. Subscribe, share it with a neighbor who’s dealt with a leak, and leave a review with the question you want answered next time water shows up where it shouldn’t.

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yuven.

SPEAKER_02

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a little Texas RR? Well, the right company may be closer than you think. Today, I have the pleasure of introducing our good neighbor, Matthew Karpoff with Texas RR. Matthew, it's great to have you on today. Now we are so excited to learn more about you and your company. So start off and tell our business our uh listeners a little bit more about your business.

Why Texas RR Started

SPEAKER_00

Well, thank you, Sophia. I really appreciate it. I appreciate you guys having me on here for the interview. Um, so Texas Restoration and Rescue, or Texas RR, is uh small business. It's family-owned and operated here out of DFW. Um, I originated it in Frisco, which is where I live with my wife, and um honestly started this company because my father-in-law, who was the former owner of Water Rescue for 28 years here in DFW, uh, decided to retire. And I wanted to kind of carry that torch and kind of take on those responsibilities and fill those shoes. And uh decided with my industry knowledge and experience with about 10 years plus in construction, I took a leap of faith and I bet on myself. And here we are today. We're crushing it, we're enjoying every bit of it. Uh, getting to know all of our friends, our neighbors, our clients are having such a good time, and it's been a blessing.

SPEAKER_02

I love that, and I love that you emphasize off of taking a leap of faith because that's that's what business is all about, right?

The Biggest Water Damage Myth

SPEAKER_00

Yes, ma'am, it is. It's it is a struggle at the beginning, and most people don't realize that. But if you can fight through it and keep that faith, then you'll make it out.

SPEAKER_02

So, Matthew, today with Texas R, you know, what is that number one myth you'd like to address for our audience today?

SPEAKER_00

Myth? Yes, as far as myths in the industry, possibly.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, man, there's a there's a lot going on with uh leaks and and water damages and things of that nature, and there's a lot of gray area around how restoration can be involved, or is it more of an insurance claim style? Like, so the biggest myth I think I've found is that um it all just needs to be taken care of. Like whether you're gonna do it through your insurance or whether you're gonna have to pay out of pocket, water damage is water damage, and these homes are not waterproof. If they were, we wouldn't be able to breathe. It's gotta be air, it can't be airtight, so it's got to be able to breathe, and and water's gonna get in naturally, and over time things deteriorate. So, what we're here to do is we're here to help alleviate that burden uh by coming in at a most cost-effective way, uh, working with our clients hand in hand, working with their insurance companies. Um, we're even partnered with several of the major home builders here at DFW, and we take care of all their needs as well. Uh, it's just been a really cool journey to get to that point.

Marketing Through Referrals

SPEAKER_02

Love that. Love that. It really sounds like uh people helping people business. So that's always great to hear. Now we're gonna go ahead and switch gears here for a second. Now we know that marketing is the heart of every business. So, ideally, who are some of these families or clients you're looking to help? And how are you attracting them?

SPEAKER_00

That's a great question. So, being a small business and uh only being about three years old, marketing is huge. Um, we haven't done a lot of it, to be honest with you, as far as uh digital marketing or um pushing ourselves out there on Google and things of that nature. We're not a very lead-based business. A lot of what we do is based on referrals and word of mouth. Typically, our project scales range anywhere from$200 to$2 million. And we're not afraid to say yes to those who are in need, who are on fixed income, who need help, right? Everybody's gotta be able to get support, everybody's gotta take care of their problems. We just found a cost-effective solution for that at Texas R where we can facilitate the needs of the largest home builders, like our friends at Landon Homes, or the smallest of homeowners who just need a dish a garbage disposal swapped. So it's uh pretty much just one of those things where we found a niche and took advantage of that.

Growth Plans And Who They Help

SPEAKER_02

Well, Matthew, it sounds like you really have a vision for your company and where you're looking to take things. So, you know, this year, what is your number one mission with your business? What, how many families are you looking to help? Um, and you know, is that six months a year from now? Where do you see this vision going being three years in the business?

SPEAKER_00

That's another great question, Sophia. Um, I'd love to say everyone. I'd love to help everybody. We do commercial business, we do multifamily work, and we also do residential work. So I really want to spend the next three years of this business growing the brand by partnering with companies like the Load Bearing Wall Pros who sponsor the hockey team that I play for, and partnering with other business owners that are in need of services that we could use and kind of sharing with them. Um, it's been a very cool experience in the rail district in Frisco that's up and coming. The business owners have really gotten together as a strong group, and now we're we're really helping each other out. Um, as far as the families go, like I said, all these families are in need. We have all these storms that are starting to hit. Uh, they're a little late in the game, but we're about to get hammered today, and we're there, we're ready. We want to be able to help out anybody who is in need, whether they can afford a little or a lot. That's not an issue.

SPEAKER_02

I love that. And Matthew, what are the values that you stand by when it comes to Texas RR?

SPEAKER_00

Transparency is one of the number one things that we stand behind, our integrity and honesty. Um, there's there's a lack of transparency in the industry, and I'm ready to change that. I'm bringing a new face to the table in the way that we are transparent with our estimating, transparent with our material sourcing, everything that we want to do with our clients, our families, our neighbors, our friends. We want them to see the full picture from the get-go. We want them to be able to have their hand in the project and feel confident that they're getting what they're paying for.
