What makes Rob Haddon with Haddon Magic a good neighbor?
We talk with Rob Haddon of Haddon Magic, a comedy magician (not “woo woo” magic) who blends sleight of hand, timing, and humor to create high-energy entertainment for corporate events, weddings, and private parties across the Dallas–Frisco area. He shares how his journey started with a childhood magic kit at nine years old, led through garage shows and military service in the Marine Corps, and eventually into corporate America—before circling back into entertainment full time.
Rob explains how comedy magic is really about psychology, attention, and performance structure, not mysticism. He breaks down how he uses magic to actually improve corporate presentations and keep audiences engaged, and why that skill translates so well into live events where attention is everything.
He also addresses common misconceptions about magicians, who his ideal clients are (from HR teams and executive assistants to wedding and event planners), and how SEO, reviews, and a strong website help the right people find him. Plus, he shares insight into one of his signature high-stakes routines where tension and humor are carefully balanced for maximum impact.
If you’re planning an event or just curious about how professional entertainment really works behind the scenes, this conversation gives you a grounded, behind-the-curtain look at comedy magic as a craft.

Welcome To Good Neighbor Podcast
SPEAKER_00This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.
SPEAKER_01Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a magician? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today, I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Rob Haddon with Haddon Magic. Rob, it's great to have you on today. Now we are so excited to learn all about you and your um magic company. So go ahead and tell our listeners a little bit more about what it is that you do and how you originally got into this.
From Magic Kit To Career
SPEAKER_02Well, um, my origin story is like a lot of magicians, I guess, uh that have been doing it. Well, I started when I was a kid, nine years old. Uh, got a Christmas gift, one of those magic kits a lot of kids get. But uh just kind of got hooked on it, started doing magic shows in my garage, that type thing. Uh stayed up with that uh through college, uh, but then after college I went into the Marine Corps. Turns out they don't need magicians. But uh after uh doing that for a while in the Marine Corps, I got back into corporate America. Um I kept up with the magic, but I used it in making corporate presentations versus being a magician. Uh it keeps people interested in what you're saying and doing so they're not bored to tears. Um, and uh uh after a few years of being in corporate America, and I was I got into improv comedy and that sort of thing. And uh then I decided, you know what, I I can do this, I think, with the magic. And so do I do comedy magic now for corporations, private parties, weddings, you know, that type of thing.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
Wild Misconceptions About Magicians
SPEAKER_01Now, you know, being in your industry, I'm sure this is gonna sound like a trick question, but you know, are there any misconceptions you come across?
SPEAKER_02Misconceptions? Oh, oh yeah. Um there's a a lot of people uh that will see a magic trick that don't really get it's a trick, uh, and they'll tell me things like I've sold my soul to the devil, uh, and that type of thing, which to me is ridiculous. If I I have to be the dumbest human on the planet to sell my soul instead of for billions of dollars in power, the only thing I sold my soul to was uh being able to tell you what card you picked. That's kind of stupid. So, but yeah, that I get that one all the time.
Ideal Clients And SEO Marketing
SPEAKER_01Now, in terms of reaching your ideal audience, you know, marketing is the heart of every business. So, you know, who are some of your ideal clients? And today, how are you attracting them?
SPEAKER_02Um, ideal clients are are wedding planners, event planners, um, and it could be, you know, people that actually have those titles, but in corporations, um, you know, sometimes it's just an HR person or the executive administrator too with the CEO and those types of things. For private parties, you know, it can be anybody. They're having a birthday party, they've got their parents' anniversary party planning. And so what I do is I um I have my website, of course, and then uh, you know, SEO type things where people are looking for magicians or wedding magicians or that type of thing. They can my my information pulls up. So then I chat with them and see if we can put something together.
SPEAKER_01Amazing.
Doing Magic For Fun
SPEAKER_01And when you're not doing this outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?
SPEAKER_02Well, it's interesting. Um I I'm in a job that is fun, you know. So um when people ask me that, I'm gonna go, Whoa, I do magic for fun. Um, I'm I'm lucky enough to have a skill that I could turn into my profession. And so that's a lot of fun for me. I mean, I I get to make people laugh, get people, you know, gasping. And uh, of course, the one question they all ask, how did you do that? And all that kind of stuff. That's a lot of fun for me.
The Spike Bag Trick Rush
SPEAKER_01What is your favorite magic act to do?
SPEAKER_02The favorite magic act, um I don't know, there's so many of them. Um I uh started doing one not too long ago, and you may have seen these type of tricks where there's several bags on a table and one of them's got a spike in it, and I have to slam my hand down on it while the without looking, then volunteer moves the bags around. So I don't know which one has the thing. The looks on everybody's faces is is amazing. So it's just like, you know, it's kind of kind of my heart kind of skips a beat too. Like if I if I guess this wrong, I'm in trouble. But uh, but it's one of my favorite tricks, yeah.
Using Humor To Survive
SPEAKER_01So, Rob, your love of making people laugh and smile, you know, where does your heart for that come from?
SPEAKER_02Uh, I guess, you know, I I've always been somewhat when I was a kid, um, I was a small kid and people picked on me. So to get out of situations of getting beat up, I would try to make jokes and get people laughing so they didn't want to hit me. So that just kept going. And then um, I don't know, around in the late 90s, I started uh with an improv group called Comedy Sports, and um I uh started here in Dallas with Comedy Sports, and uh now they're still going. I'm not running it, of course, but um uh in the comedy arena in McKinney, they're they're doing a lot of uh of the comedy sports shows as well as other improv comedy shows.
Bringing Magic To Your Life
SPEAKER_01So, Rob, do you have a motto or a mission statement that you have for Haddon Magic?
SPEAKER_02Uh bringing magic to your life is uh my motto for them. So um, you know, it has a lot of meanings to it, not just bringing a magician, but um, you know, the wonder of magic is something everybody wants, it it transcends everything. I've done magic for groups that don't speak, you know, don't speak any English, um, but they still get the magic, you know, so they still have fun, they still laugh. Um, and uh I've done shows at places where probably I should have been shot, uh literally. And um, but the magic brought them all together and we all had a great time. So, you know, it's it's it's uh type of thing that everybody likes. They like laughing, they and everybody likes a sense of wonder. So um that's that's why I enjoy what I do.
SPEAKER_01Love that. So you're bringing communities together one magic show at a time, it sounds like. Final question for you because we've covered a lot of great information and got to know you and your business a little bit better today.
