In our previous sessions, we explored two concepts. Listening with presence and listening beyond wordS.

And today we'll engage in our third and final point, listening to learn, not to respond. Now, this session will highlight how this approach fosters a culture of open communication and continuous improvements within our team. Let me give you a short recap so we can blend all of our three points together.

In our first session, we discuss listening with presence, which emphasizes being fully present in conversations, setting aside distractions, and showing genuine interest in the speaker. This practice builds trust and encourages an environment where Open dialogue thrives. Now in our second session, we focused on listening beyond words, where we deepened our understanding by paying attention to nonverbal cues, emotional signals, and the context surrounding the conversation.

By recognizing the unspoken aspects of communication, we Enhance our ability to connect and respond thoughtfully.

Today it's all about

Listening to learn, not to respond is about shifting our mindset during conversations.  From merely waiting for our turn to speak to generally seeking to understand the speaker's  perspective. This approach prioritizes curiosity over rebuttal. Did you hear that? It prioritizes curiosity. over rebuttal, allowing us to fully absorb what others are expressing by adopting this mindset.

We create opportunities for deeper insights and richer discussions as participants feel encouraged to express their thoughts freely. Wouldn't it be a great workplace to be Able to share what you are actually feeling instead of being quiet to be able to say, Hey, have you thought about this? Have you thought about that?

This made me feel this way. That would be a great place and a great environment to work in, a respectful environment to work in. When you listen to learn instead of react at work, it's such a huge benefit and creates this profound effect. Leading with this kind of listening creates that safe space where team members feel appreciated and they are able to be at their best and do their best work.

This makes it easier for employees to work together because they are more likely to share new ideas. And isn't that what we want? We want our employees to be able to share new ideals and helpful comments. In addition, a culture that encourages people to learn from each other helps clear up any confusions.

It also settles any disagreements, which leads to better results and stronger team relationships. Let's look at a situation involving a team leader at this business. Let's just make it a software business. Now, a leader saw that talks often turned into heated discussions. Okay?

, One particular leader, saw that  talks often turned heated during project reviews with people on the team always rushing to defend their ideals. It was like they felt like it was a front assault attack.  And so haven't you been there because I know I have been there where you mentioned one thing about a particular project and if it happened to be someone else's project and even if it just was one just one thing and they were just so offended and  how many have been there?

So people on the team rushed to defend their ideals. , this particular leader changed how that next meeting was run after learning how important it is to listen in order to learn instead of responding right away with counter arguments the leader this time actively encouraged the team members to share their ideals without being interrupted now  There are some people who, and especially, just depending on where you are in your life, where you are in your career, if you're sitting in that team,  you may not be listening to learn and not to respond.

I need us all to give other people grace.   Whether you are currently a leader or whether you are striving to be a leader, give people grace because what I'm asking of you is not what everyone does, and it's not what every employee e  practices, and thus I need you all to have great patience as you all are practicing this, but in this example, That leader recognized that they needed to set this standard to tell people, listen and encourage them, please share your ideals. And we are not going to interrupt the speaker by asking deep questions and genuinely wanting to know their thoughts.

The leader found and began to understand that a big source of conflict was just merely misunderstanding about the project's goals. Now, because they could talk to each other, To each other freely in this context, the team came up with answers and made their goals clear, which not only made the project better, but it also made relationships stronger.

For today's session on listening to learn not to respond. I have emphasized the importance of prioritizing understanding in our conversation, coupled with our earlier discussions on listening with presence and listening beyond words, we've explored three essential pillars of effective communication.

So that's listening with presence, engaging completely in conversations to build trust,

listening beyond words, recognizing nonverbal cues to gain deeper insights.

And today, our final third point, listening to learn, not to respond, fostering genuine curiosity to enhance dialogue

by integrating all of the three principles into our daily practice, we can cultivate a work culture that values open communication, encourages collaboration, and supports continuous  learning.   I encourage each of you to apply these listening techniques In your interactions, as we empower your leadership and enhance team dynamics, thank you for participating throughout our three part series.

I always end with a quote, and for our series, quote, When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen.

We won't be that person. We are leaders that listen and fully engage in listening. It is a key element in transformational listening. When people understand and they go beyond just surface level communication to be able to foster deep connections and change.
