Ruben Bø Dower first caught the attention of audiences on I Kissed A Boy, but behind the iconic green looks and unforgettable fashion is a thoughtful conversation about identity, creativity and belonging. In this episode, we're joined by artist, designer and creator Ruben Bø Dower to talk about life after reality TV, finding confidence in who you are, and the journey towards self-acceptance.
From his experience on I Kissed A Boy and the show's impact on queer representation, to navigating public attention, dating apps and online criticism, Ruben reflects on how appearing on television changed his life. We discuss the importance of queer community, dating a trans man on national TV, and why representation still matters when there are so few LGBTQ+ shows being made.
The conversation also gets deeply personal as Ruben opens up about growing up between Norway and South London, coming out at 14, dealing with internalised homophobia, and struggling to fit in as both a queer and mixed-race person. Along the way, we discuss race, masculinity, self-expression, fashion, creativity, family dynamics, attachment styles, and how painting himself green became a symbol of embracing every part of who he is.
