Spirit Call Out S01E05
“Pigtails”
Hello everybody, I am Dr. Shawn Marie Higgins, and welcome back to Spirit Call Out. I want to explain in greater detail how this process occurs. What I do is bring forward communications from crossed over loved ones, including animals, humans and occasionally other beings who come to me to reach their loved ones who are still living in physical form.
In essence, I receive messages from spirits - your deceased relatives - who come to me in order to connect with you. This process initially developed at a very gradual pace, and I could easily identify who these individuals were. They were often patients in my practice or new individuals I knew I would be meeting that day. At times, these experiences would also occur in public environments, such as stores and similar settings. Eventually, however, I began to experience a significant increase in spiritual encounters, with spirits seemingly lining up to introduce themselves and deliver messages. At that point, I felt somewhat overwhelmed and uncertain about how best to communicate these messages.
I practice osteopathic manipulation and spiritual mediumship, where typically living individuals schedule appointments to connect with their deceased loved ones. In contrast, I began experiencing the reverse—deceased loved ones initiating contact in order to reach those still living. This was not what I had anticipated as my practice expanded. It seemed as though my medical practice began evolving in this unexpected way.
In order to serve effectively, I must approach it in this manner. At present, this is the most effective way to facilitate connection and communication between the spiritual and physical realms. I know this to be true, because vibrational law dictates the path of least resistance for love – ALWAYS.
I also want to emphasize that this process is organic. It is not a matter of sitting and deliberately attempting to reach a spirit. No – these entities are approaching me of their own will and asking me to relay messages. Additionally, these messages are not vague mental images or things I might be hearing in my mind. Rather, these are vivid encounters in which my physical visual field completely disappears and is replaced by an immersive spiritual or interdimensional visual experience; or in which my ears are hearing the messages as loud as any other noise in my physical environment. I hear the voice with my physical ears – or at least it seems like it to me in those moments. It is nothing like remembering voices in a conversation – these are loud and clear audible messages conveyed with pointed intelligence. I am completely awake when I receive these messages. They are not in dreams. I do receive messages in dreams, and I keep a detailed dream journal. Many amazing insights, premonitions and guidance can be found through our dreams. However, that is not what these call outs are. These call outs are messages obtained in a specific manner. I receive messages from spirit in many ways. But SPIRIT CALL OUT is based on a set routine and protocol of receiving these messages. It must be, so that I know without doubt that the entities coming through to me in this way are wanting me to call out their messages. Otherwise, they come through in a different way, such as a being coming through for a patient during the moments they are receiving an osteopathic or energy healing.
These experiences are very real, and I remain fully awake during them. The images are presented clearly within my visual field. The timing and conditions under which these experiences occur are topics I explore in the classes I teach, where I help others develop their mediumship abilities.
These are genuine interactions, intended to reach loved ones still living. At a minimum—and most importantly—when a loved one comes through in a call-out, it is because they want you to know that they are with you. They love you, they see you and they remain present in your life. They are not missing any part of your experience. This message provides both resolution and validation, which are deeply healing.
When this validation is received and truly integrated, it can lead to measurable changes in the nervous system. Positive neurotransmitter activity can create a cascade of healing responses and beneficial chemical reactions within the body.
This makes the experience inherently therapeutic. Each time you recall the message, the call-out, or the presence of your loved one, you may experience additional beneficial neurological responses, including anti-inflammatory and immune-supportive processes within the body.
I teach a class called Biological Mediumship, where I explain these concepts in more depth.
It is important to understand that these experiences occur spontaneously. I cannot request them; they happen when the spirit is ready. As a result, there may be intervals of time between call-out episodes.
Typically, a spirit introduces themselves through a visual image or scene. That initial image fades, and I may then attempt to gather additional information. Through experience, I have learned that drawing the image allows further information to emerge. For example, when I create a sketch of what I saw, additional details about the situation become clearer. If I still have questions, I may consult my higher spiritual guides, who assist in monitoring and supporting my mediumship development.
Drawing serves as an important mechanism for receiving information. Recreating an interdimensional visual experience through the physical body—specifically through movement and drawing—becomes another form of communication and channeling.
I want to clarify that I am not a professional artist, so the drawings are not intended to be technically refined. However, the depth of information conveyed through them is significant. When I recall the original vision and translate it through physical movement onto paper, it becomes a powerful extension of the communication process. I explore these concepts further in my Biological Mediumship class.
To reiterate, these experiences must occur authentically. I have no doubt about the validity of the information I receive. I am confident that these are real interactions, and that I am serving as a bridge between the spiritual and physical worlds.
At times, I also learn new aspects of mediumship during these call-outs. One example is the realization that drawing enhances the clarity of communication. That is why today I am presenting this visually—I want to show you the image of the little girl who came to me this morning.
Although I have received other call-outs recently, the amount of information that emerged while drawing this particular spirit prompted me to share her message first. Additional call-outs will follow shortly.
The individual who came through is a young girl, appearing to be approximately five years old. This is an estimate based on her appearance, as she presented herself slightly turned to the side, as if peeking toward me in a friendly manner. She appeared to approach from my right side, angled slightly left, with a gentle, cheerful presence.
She was smiling, and the most prominent feature I noticed was her pigtails. This detail stood out very strongly. Her hair was brown—darker than dirty blonde but not extremely dark—and styled in two high pigtails. I will show you a sketch of her. While the original vision appeared fully lifelike, the sketch represents my attempt to capture that image as information continued to come through.
She appeared very happy, expressive, and bright-eyed. The pigtails were positioned high on her head, extending outward. Particular emphasis was placed on the hair ties, which may hold personal significance—either something she especially valued or a consistent aspect of her appearance.
These specific details are often presented by spirits as identifying markers for their loved ones. They are intended to provide unmistakable recognition.
I also perceived that she may have been wearing a checkered or plaid shirt, possibly with a collar. However, it is important to note that sensory perception in spiritual encounters differs from physical perception. These images often phase in and out, with forms appearing gradually, remaining briefly, and then fading. They may appear one behind the other, one more bright than the other, more prominent than another in order to convey significance of a concept, object or identifying factor.
During these experiences, sensory information - visual, auditory, emotional, and intuitive - is integrated into a unified perception. Along with her appearance, I sensed that she was highly intelligent, curious, and inquisitive. Her energy conveyed a strong interest in understanding how things work, particularly in nature. She had a thoughtful, analytical quality, similar to that of a scientist.
She appeared both gentle and strong in personality, confident in who she was, and not overly concerned with others’ opinions. I sensed a balance between traditionally feminine qualities and a more exploratory, adventurous nature.
It seemed as though she was outdoors when she appeared to me, engaged in a natural, playful environment. She has faint freckles. And although this detail was less visually defined and more intuitive in nature, it may still serve as an identifying characteristic.
I believe this message is intended for her parents and family members. Her communication is simple but meaningful: she is happy, she is present, and she remains with them.
Spirits often come through to support healing for those still living. This message serves as validation of her continued presence in a different form.

I also hope these demonstrations provide educational value for those developing their own mediumship abilities. The process of drawing and writing simultaneously allows for a flow of information that enhances communication.
When working with familiar spirits, such as guides or relatives, I often spend additional time refining their features through repeated drawings. This helps strengthen the neurological pathways associated with mediumship and enhances clarity in communication. The spirits recommend this to you to enhance your abilities as well.
Mediumship is fundamentally biological. In my classes, we focus on strengthening neural connections and facilitating this process through the nervous system. Various drawing and sketching techniques that bring spirit through to communicate are taught and used during the class and are very helpful for my students.
I will conclude here, although I could expand on all of these topics extensively – and I SHALL in future episodes and via the book and my classes.
