The Psychologist Who Knew Keir Starmer at Oxford

Can the Deep State colonize your mind β and can psychology free it? Clinical psychologist Benji Schoendorff makes the case, from Oxford to Gaza to a new "liberation psychology." Founder of the Contextual Psychology Institute in Montreal, Schoendorff explains how the identities we inherit from history and society can limit us β and how the work of dismantling them is fundamentally anti-colonial.
Drawing on relational frame theory, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and process-based behavior therapy, he makes the case for a new "liberation psychology" rooted in science. Along the way, he shares his personal journey: becoming an anti-imperialist at age ten, visiting Beirut and the Sabra and Shatila camps in 1981, his Oxford years (including knowing a young Keir Starmer), and why he finally decided to speak out publicly.
The conversation ranges across Western hegemony, the idea of the "crusading society," multipolarity, and his provocative critique of Noam Chomsky's famous review of B.F. Skinner. It closes with a deeply personal reflection on what he calls "nourishing the resistance" and being a "free person of the world."
