In this episode, Codie confronts the hidden counterfeit sources believers often lean on for peace, comfort, identity, and endurance while calling the Body of Christ back to genuine dependence upon Jesus. This is more than a conversation about behavior — it’s about what has become the functional source sustaining our inner life.

Is your strength authentic… or counterfeit?

This episode will challenge your heart, expose hidden dependencies, and invite you into a deeper place of surrender, intimacy, and true spiritual strength.

Hey guys, happy Wednesday. I want to share with you something that is on my heart today after the day of Pentecost. I hope that you had an amazing time with the Lord. I really believe that Pentecost was a major shift in our nation, in the world, in the spiritual realm. I truly believe that God did something that we are going to see the fruit of. I truly believe there's so many times where God does things and we we later, it's almost like we're like a deer in headlights. We're like, what happened on that day? I don't even know what happened. I don't remember anything major. I just know that right around that time I felt different. Um, I'm acting different, I'm speaking different. And a lot of people do remember, you know, what happened, but I do believe there are times where God shifts things in the atmosphere, and um, we in the natural don't feel it till later. So I truly believe that um there was a major shift, almost like an atomic uh nuclear bomb was set off in the spiritual realm on Pentecost Sunday, and so I'm excited to see the fruit um in the body of Christ from that day. But today is uh a few days after Pentecost, and again, like I said, I hope you had an amazing service. I pray that the Holy Spirit encountered you in a fresh new way. There is not just one baptism of the Holy Ghost, there are actually five recorded in the Bible, and so if you ever get a chance, um you know, study those different types of baptisms of the Holy Spirit, and um I pray that you had a fresh baptism of the Holy Ghost this past Sunday. But through with that, I want to talk about a scripture that I truly believe um I think we carelessly use in the body of Christ. I truly believe that people believe in this scripture and they do see the power of it, but I want to go a little deeper. I want to challenge you a little bit deeper on what this scripture actually means. So uh today we're gonna be talking about Philippians 4 13. You you probably as soon as I say that, you can quote it uh right off the bat. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. So we see that everywhere, we see it on uh decorations in our house, we got tattoos about it, we got shirts about it, we got you know, it's just everywhere. And it's a common scripture that a lot of people use when they're going through a hard time in life and they just continue to say, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. But you know how I teach, and a lot of times I like to highlight or emphasize on one maybe word or maybe two words or a small phrase and and take you deeper into that and really challenge your beliefs on um what that actually means. So in this scripture it says, I can do all things through him who strengthens me. And I want to highlight last week we talked about in him with John 3 16. If you haven't listened to that podcast, I would really encourage you to do that. But today we're gonna talk about the words through him. Some scriptures say or or some versions in the Bible say through Christ who strengthens me. Mine specifically is ESV. Um, I know that's uh that's a uh different translation than I think is majority, but I just feel like uh the Lord took me deeper in this translation. So through him, I think about that, and I think, okay, through him, it automatically makes me think Jesus' words where he says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me. So when I think about those two scriptures, I believe that the body of Christ, we really um, and I and I I talk a lot in my podcast and just in my ministry period about the body of Christ because I really want to challenge the body of Christ. I want to challenge believers to actually live the life that they are um preaching. I see a lot of Christians who they preach a lot of things and and not preachers, I'm talking about Christians who, you know, declare to be a Christian, they declare to be for Jesus, yet their fruit of their life doesn't show it. Um, and I would say it's probably 90% in what I have seen in my personal life just through observation and what God has shown me. So that's why I do challenge you as a believer, I challenge you as a Christian to not just talk the talk, but actually walk the walk. And it is my job as a teacher of the word to actually um take you to a deeper level, take you to a place where God has shown me in my own life, you know, things and areas that I may not be tapping into that I need to go a little deeper into. So I love sharing those things with you. And in this scripture, again, let's highlight this phrase through Him. We quote Philippians 4 13 constantly. I hear it all the time. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. But guys, many believers are still going through everything except Christ for strength. We want the promise without the dependence, we want strength without surrender, we want peace without abiding, we want relief without relationship. I just recently came out of a very challenging um refinement with the Lord, and I remember I was um just going through almost like this mental uh mental turmoil in the spiritual realm, and it was like anytime I got um at a place of rest or anything like that, it was like I was in turmoil in my spirit, and I remember getting so like angry at the enemy because he was coming at me from all sides, and I was like, what in the world? Like, are you kidding me right now? What why are you because see, this is the thing with me is uh if you start touching my piece, uh we're gonna we're gonna have a tussle, we're gonna have a fight, we're gonna um you want to challenge me, I'm gonna challenge you, okay? That's why I love to challenge believers because I do like a good challenge. Um so that's just how I grew up. I grew up with brothers, I was the baby girl, you know. I I had to learn to hold my own. I had to learn to stand up for myself, and so that's why I am a little bit more uh challenging when it comes to how I minister, and a lot of people don't understand that because I am not uh one who is just gonna coddle you and and be like, oh, it's okay. Now there are moments for that. I do do believe there's certain people who have different wounds and traumas that they do need that love and that compassion of a mom. But there are also believers who really need to be challenged, um, they might need to be shaken a little bit, they they might need that hardcore uh stab with this with the sword with the spirit of truth, and so you really have to um know which way to go, but I say all that because I want to challenge you. Are you going through Christ? When I began to go through this turmoil, I got up and I got my coffee and I just began to get in the word of God. Because I knew that's where I'm gonna go through the word. Christ is the word. It says in John 1.1, in the beginning was the word, and the word was God. So are we are we getting stressed out? Are we overwhelmed? Are we uh battling anxiety and fear and uh tormenting dreams? I'm trying to think of what else uh just really is the devil's tactic of pushing you overboard. Um it's when he starts interrupting your sleep. To me, that's the worst thing because it affects the rest of your entire day when you don't get a good night's rest. When we start battling like that, are we going through Christ? Or are we drinking five and six cups of coffee a day? Are we pulling out the antidepressant uh antidepressants that the the doctor prescribed us? And oh, it's okay because the doctor gave them to us. He said that we needed them. Do we do we need them or did we just not go through Christ and we went through man? Guys, I'm not saying the doctor is bad. I'm just saying where did you go first? For me personally, I don't I don't believe that Jesus would ever tell you to go to the doctor and get antidepressants if you're a believer. I'm gonna say that again. I don't believe that Jesus would ever instruct you to go to the doctor and get antidepressants as a believer. You wanna know why? Because I did that. I took antidepressants because I didn't know how to go to Christ. I didn't know how to go through him. I knew about him. And I knew what people said he could do, but I never never gave him the chance to actually do it for me. Because the enemy says, oh well, he does it for everybody else, but he's not gonna do it for you. And maybe you're believing that lie. And I find that a more majority of believers, they actually they actually try to go through Christ, they actually attempt it, and they actually do go to their word and they start there, or they have a you know, diagnosis, or they're battling something, and and they say, God, they they cry out to God, right? But if God doesn't answer in their timing, and if he doesn't, you know, uh respond like their their genie where they rub the lamp and cry out to God, and he doesn't poof come out right away and and say, How may I help you? And he doesn't bow down to them and their timing, then they actually abandon Christ, and they no longer go through him, but they go around him, and they go to man, and then they continue to quote, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Yet the scripture says that they praise me with their mouths, yet their hearts are far from me. He says, be still and no. Guys, there's a process in being still. There's been many times where I have battled and battled. And I've wanted to go to even like get help from somebody else, even even like a pastor or a leader or or somebody. But I knew in my heart I need to wait upon the Lord. I need to endure. I need to actually almost like force the spirit to send me somebody if he wants me to go that route. But I'm not moving first. I'm not moving towards man first because I'm gonna sit here and I'm actually gonna thank God for the refinement. I'm gonna thank God for the depression. I'm gonna thank God for the anxiety. I'm gonna thank him for the turmoil in my mind. I'm gonna thank him that I'm not sleeping at night and I'm up all night and I'm being tormented in my dreams by demons. I'm gonna thank him for the refinement. And there's been so many times where that has happened to me, and all I could cry out was, break me, oh God. Break me, oh God. Not search my heart, oh God. I do believe there is a season where you yourself open up doors to Satan through sin, and you actually allow those tormenting spirits access to your mind, access to your life. I do believe that we have to, we have to do two things when we are in a season of what seems like the storm. We have to say, the first thing we have to pray is like David, and we have to say, Search me, oh God. Is there some place where I have stepped out of alignment? Is there some place that I didn't go through you? Is there some place where I stepped out from the Psalm 91 covering that you have promised your people? Search me, oh God. And if you don't feel like He has brought you anything that you need to repent of, then you need to say, it's fine. Break me, oh God. Force me to go through you. I will wait upon you until you answer my cry. Not not me running to man, not me picking up the phone for my best friend, not me uh, you know, running to church on Sunday to to get you know relief. Guys, I'm not saying that that's not bad, but guys, make sure it's not the priority, like make sure that you've been to the feet of Jesus first. Make sure that you have gone through him. You can't go through him if you don't know how to get to him. And we have so many believers in the body of Christ who actually are very good at getting to the feet of man. They're very good at getting to the feet of their mom or their dad or their husband or their brother or their sister, or their pastor, or their best friend, or even their ministry partner. They're really good at getting to the feet of their apostle, the feet of their prophet, the feet of the evangelist, the feet of the conference, come on, somebody, the feet of the service or the revival, but we don't learn how to get to the feet of Jesus, and yes, Jesus is in all those things, but there comes a point in your maturity in Christ that he is not going to let you no longer get fulfilled in those areas. Why? Because he's drawing you to himself. Jesus says, I am the way, I am the truth, and I am the life. His word also says, when you know the truth, the truth will set you free. That's not a revelation. Yes, many times revelations set you free because they're the truth, but you need to understand that he is the revelation. He is the truth. He says, I am the way. I am the truth, I am the life. So we can quote, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. But if you're not going through Christ, you're not truly being strengthened. You might be strengthened for a little while. Your alcohol, your beer, your cigarette, your food addiction, your shopping addiction, your sweets addiction, your gossip addiction, your social media idol, even your ministry addiction, come on. Even ministering can be an idol. It can be an addiction that makes you feel good about yourself. When you get up there and you preach a good word and everybody says, man, that message really, really spoke to me today, and you get this hit of dopamine because you're so addicted to the approval of man. Is ministry your idol? It's not church. It's not your YouTube sermon. It's not your TikTok um shorts. It's not gossiping with your so-called prayer partner. Guys, it's learning how to get to Jesus. But you will never get to him if you're not willing to wait upon him. In the body of Christ, we have this fast food mentality. We think that if we just sing three songs, the Holy Spirit's gonna show up. No, he's not. And he wants to come in a greater portion. Yet you put the mic down, you end the worship service, and you pick up the the Sermon, and he's like, I wasn't done yet. I wanted to give you seven times more of what I just gave you. I wanted to go deeper. I wanted to go to the next depth and the next level. I wanted to take you from glory to glory and face to faith, but you stopped at the first and second level. I think about I don't know why he's giving me this, but I think about um back in the day when you we used to play the game um Mario Brothers, and you know you would you would try to win the whole gaming system, but you had to go to different levels. But what happened? What happened if you went through the first level and you died, right? What happened? You tried again and you didn't give up. You kept you died and you resurrected and you died and you resurrected and you died and you auto-resurrected and you died and you auto-resurrected until you eventually got further each time, and eventually you beat the whole game. Guys, that's how the Holy Spirit is. But guys, you've got to learn to endure. And you've got to stop cursing God and stop saying, God, why did you let this happen to me? God, why did you take that from me? God, why am I going through this? Have you read the word of God? He's letting you go through that. He's letting you get into the storm to give you more. He's crushing you to build you. You cannot produce olive oil without the olive being crushed. And when the priest made holy olive oil, it was only the first drop that was considered holy. So think about how much crushing, how many olives had to go through that crushing to only to only allow the first drop of oil to be considered holy in the eyes of God. So it's your first response to the crushing that is considered holy if you respond the right way to persecution and refinement. We gotta stop giving the devil so much credit. The devil's attacking me. Well, yeah, he is, but you know what? God actually sent him to you. Because Paul says that Satan was sent to him to torment him by the hand of God, and all God's response was was, My grace is sufficient for you. In other words, lean on me, son. Trust in me, son, wait on me, son. I'm refining you, I'm positioning you for greatness. But you must respond in humility, even to God. Everybody wants to talk about humbling ourselves before other people, humbling ourselves, you know, when people persecute us, he says, turn the other cheek, you know. He he talks about, you know, not responding back, you know, don't even don't even respond to to foolish comments and foolish things. He says, Don't even pay that no attention. But the thing is, is we're so focused on how to humble ourselves before man, how to submit to authority, as they call it, but we don't even know how to submit or humble ourselves before God in waiting in the persecution, in waiting in the storm, and saying, break me, oh God. It's fine if I'm being tormented in my dreams that night. It's fine if that's the cost, if that's the price. David says, God, I never want to give you anything that didn't cost me something. And so we have to have that heart posture. In our crushing, is the first drop of oil holy? It's not holy if you're murmuring, if you're complaining, if you're constantly, why God? But why God? And he says, why not? We like to cry out, why God is this happening to me? Why God? And his response is why not? I thought you said you wanted to grow. I thought you said you wanted a better wineskin. I thought you said you wanted a harvest of souls. I thought you said you wanted to set the captives free. I thought you said you were willing to go to the nations. I thought when I asked who will go for me, you raised your hand in that service that day. Do you remember? Do you remember when I asked who's willing to pay the price for the gospel of Jesus Christ? Do you remember all those yeses you gave me? And now you're like an Indian giver. You gave me your yes, but now you want to take it back. And now you want to curse me. And now I can't even use you. Because now in your cursing to me and asking me, why am I doing this to you? You've cursed me, therefore you've cursed your own destiny. You've cursed your own purpose. Return to me, says the Lord. I want your full surrender. I don't want half of your heart. You can't serve two gods. You can't serve me and serve alcohol. You can't serve me and serve nicotine. You can't serve me and serve weed. You can't serve me and serve masturbation. You can't serve me and serve pornography. You can't serve me and serve witchcraft through the gossiping of your tongue. You can't serve me and Satan too. Return to me, says the Lord. The path is narrow, and few find it. Many are called, but few are chosen. We gotta stop lying to God. We gotta stop lying to God. We give Him our yes, and we surrender at the altar in the conference or the church service or on Pentecost Sunday, and we raise our hands, and we take an oath, and we stand before the courts of heaven with our right hand raised, and we say, I promise not to lie, just like they do in the courthouses. Yet when it's our turn to give our testimony and to plead our case, we lie. And we begin to curse God, and we begin to go through everything else but Him. We go through alcohol, we go through cigarettes, we go through wine. And you can say, well, Jesus drank wine in the Bible, but that's just a lie from hell to keep you worshiping your God of alcohol. And you're lying to yourself, giving yourself an excuse to get peace every night when you lay your head down. Because the alcohol gave you peace, not Jesus. You went through alcohol, you went through the over-the-counter sleep aids, you went through the Advil PM. You went through the oxycodone, whatever it is. You didn't go through Christ. You went through Satan. And he offered you a counterfeit peace, and you chose it over Jesus. You persecuted the very Savior who died on the cross to save your life. And just like Paul, he said, Why are you persecuting me? And that's what the Lord is saying to some of you today. Why are you persecuting me? Why do you continue to persecute me through taking the hand of Satan? Why do you refuse to come through me? You proclaim my word, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Yet you continue to go through Satan and worship Satan instead of Jesus. And I will tell you, you're on a road to eternity in hell. And I promise you, when you're in hell, you'll remember every single time that you chose Satan over Jesus. For eternity, it will taunt you and it will torture you mentally in your mind. And you will wish you would have listened. But it will be too late. So while you still have time, while the door is still open, turn from your wicked ways and go through Jesus. And not to every other counterfeit God of Satan in your life. Put down the pills. Pour out the alcohol. Get rid of the nicotine. Stop going by that gas station that draws you in every time you pass it. And it's calling you and drawing you through Satan. Again, Jesus says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me. You will not inherit the kingdom of God if you don't learn how to go through Christ. So I want to challenge you today to ask the Holy Spirit to show you and reveal to you every hidden idol that you are going through to get your strength instead of Jesus Christ. Father, right now in the name of Jesus, I pray that every hidden idol, every need that is being met in the lives of the people at the sound of my voice, that you would smash every idol that stands in front of you, and is the pathway to hell for your people. And I pray that every serpent that has blocked you from the pathway to Jesus be cremated right now by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, Yeshua, who is eternal life. And if you don't go through him, he is eternal life, so therefore you will not have eternal life, but eternal judgment. So I say today, repent. Turn from your sins. Turn. Hundred and eighty degrees, a complete U-turn. Turn from your sins. Don't look back like Lot's wife. Leave that place. I don't care if you have to quit your job. Lord, I ask that these people who are crying out to be in alignment and to go through you, Lord, that today you would remove whatever is in the way of them getting through you. Whatever it is, God, we surrender all. Even if it's their job, Lord. Even if it's a friendship, Lord. Even if it's a family member, Lord. Even if it's a church service, Lord. Even if it's a conference, Lord. Even if it's a TV show. Be removed now in the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit says, I will draw all men unto myself. Holy Spirit, have your way in the lives of your people, in the hearts of your people. Return them to yourself. In Jesus' name I pray.
