Welcome to GenX Classic Sports, the podcast where we revisit the unforgettable athletes, teams, and moments that shaped our sports memories growing up.

In the spring of 1987, college baseball witnessed one of the most remarkable feats the game has ever seen. At the heart of a powerhouse lineup for the Oklahoma State Cowboys baseball, third baseman Robin Ventura began putting together a hitting streak that seemed to defy belief. Game after game, hit after hit, Ventura pushed past the NCAA record and even surpassed the legendary 56-game streak of Joe DiMaggio.

In this episode of GenX Classic Sports, we relive the incredible story of Ventura’s 58-game hitting streak, the explosive offense built by coach Gary Ward, and the dramatic moment when the streak finally ended on the biggest stage in college baseball—the College World Series. It’s a forgotten chapter of 1980s sports history that still stands as one of baseball’s most untouchable records. ⚾
