Why “One-Size-Fits-All” Speaking Doesn’t Work — and what to do instead.
In this intimate solo episode, Lauri pulls back the curtain on the deeper “why” behind her work—and how it breaks free from the industrial, cookie-cutter speaking world.
Through personal stories and client journeys, she reveals how true transformation happens when we stop performing, let go of who we were told to be, and step into who we actually are.
You’ll also be guided through a short grounding visualization to reconnect to your body, your voice, and the energy you bring into every room you enter.
If you’ve ever felt like your voice didn’t quite fit the mold… this one’s for you.
Takeaways
1. Speaking is a spiritual journey, not a strategy. True transformation happens when you treat speaking as an initiation into your authentic power—not another skill to master.
2. Industrial “one-size-fits-all” programs suppress radiance. Most speaker training models teach you to perform, not to be, erasing your natural charisma and voice.
3. Your 1-in-8-billion radiance is your magnetism. When primal life force meets purpose, you become magnetic—able to shift the energy in every room you enter.
4. Intimacy creates transformation. Small, safe, live spaces allow for real unmasking and growth—something no pre-recorded course or template can replicate.
5. Letting go is the threshold to freedom. Every breakthrough begins when you release the “good girl,” “good boy,” or “perfect professional” masks that keep you small.
6. Oneness and authenticity are felt, not taught. Lauri’s story of her acting class breakthrough illustrates that presence is born from emotional truth, not control.
7. The Soulful Speaking Immersion is a sacred passage. Participants rediscover their voice, embody their message, and remember who they truly are.
8. There’s no shortcut to soulful expression. The way out is through—breathing, grounding, and being witnessed in your wholeness.
9. You can shift the world by shifting the vibe in the room. When you speak from your soul, your presence becomes the air conditioner—transforming the energy around you.

Speaking as a Spiritual Journey
LauriWelcome back to Soulful Speaking. If you're tuning in while commuting or going for a jog or sitting with a cup of coffee, I am grateful that you're here. Today I want to peel back the curtain and talk about something that I don't often talk about here. The inner architecture of the speaker studio and the soulful speaking immersion, what makes them different, and why I hold my programs and built my programs the way that I did. The people that I work with want more. So I give them more. They do want to feel confident, yes, and have a signature talk, aka a one-of-a-kind talk, yes. And even more than that, they want to feel the vibe in the room change when they talk. To me and to them, speaking is not a should or a have to. It's not an obligation. It's far more than a business building activity, though it does that. Speaking is a part of their calling. And we believe that speaking is a spiritual journey. For that reason, the soulful speaking immersion isn't just a program, it's an initiation, a sacred passage of being witnessed and stepping into being truly seen and heard and felt. And it's a part of the larger speaker studio that people can also do alone. And when people continue in the speaker studio, they become radiant, untamed, wild-hearted leaders and loving rebels who are doing their part to change the world. And the reason I'm sharing this now is that I've had several people say to me lately, I've tried other visibility programs, or I've tried other speaking programs, and they felt off. Why did they feel off? What's missing? And as I prepare to open the Soulful Speaking Immersion and the Speaker Studio again, I want to answer this question and others that I've gotten like, what is this work? How do you work? Why does it work? Clarissa Pinkola Estes said, Within every woman, there is a wild and natural creature, a powerful force filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. In other words, we, men and women, are all born with charisma, aka a one in eight billion radiance as unique as our fingerprint. Unfortunately, we are conditioned to suppress that force, to hide that knowing, to tame ourselves and bury that radiance, that one in eight billion radiance beneath masks and behind veils and shoulds and should nots. Don't be too big, don't be too much, don't take up too much space, don't be too emotional. And emotions, energy in motion, and radiance, presence, charisma go hand in hand. What it's going to take to create meaningful change in the world is not to show up as the person that we're told we should be, who we've been tamed into. It is going to take as wild-hearted leaders and loving rebels, showing up as the powerful, intuitive, creative force that we actually are. Once upon a time in my favorite acting class studio, I was doing an exercise where I was up there all by myself. I've talked about this once or twice before, and I'm going to share it again in this context. And usually I was up there, we were always up there with at least one other person, maybe three other people. And on that day, I was up there by myself, everyone was watching. They were throwing ideas and exercises and prompts at me while I improvised. And I kept putting on my I'm fine mask and being the good girl or the intelligent one who had it all pulled together. And eventually, Richard stopped the exercise, my teacher, and said, Whatever it is you're doing, whether it's resetting, stop doing it. And I said, I'm not that comfortable having everyone's eyes on me. And he said, Then you have picked a strange set of careers for yourself. You're an actor, a speaker, a leader, a teacher. Part of you wants this. Part of you knows you are meant to be seen. And it was like he spoke through the veils and the armor in front of my heart and the emotional mask through decades of time back to the young me, the little girl me who had been dancing freely. And the other parts of me deeply trusted him and the safe, intimate space that he held. So I stepped back into the exercise and I actively chose to release the armor, let the masks go. And by the end of the exercise, um, in order to get there, I actually was going through things that felt incredibly illogical, like laughing hysterically in an inappropriate moment and sobbing uncontrollably in another. And when the exercise was over and I looked out at my classmates, I could see and feel what kind of a day every single one of them was having. I now know it was my first moment of oneness that lasted beyond the acting, beyond the playing of a sport. And I also know now that I crossed a threshold. The threshold that I crossed was crossing over into being everything that everyone had been telling me my whole entire life that I couldn't or shouldn't be. Wild, emotional, raw, unmasked, intuitive, untamed. And it actually wasn't just that moment. There have been several meaningful transformations in my life that came from crossing that threshold, walking through that same doorway, getting cast as the fiery Abigail in the crucible, even though I was told that I looked like the mousy Mary Warren. Primal birthing myself, my way up a ropes course tree, and then scaling to the top like Spider-Man, which was the first time someone called me Wild Woman. And even discovering a goddess voice within me that didn't come from my head, but from something primal and sacred in my core. That doorway, that threshold led to oneness. It led to my voice, it led to my radiance, it led to changing my world, and it is what will lead to changing the world. Each time it was the same. I let go of what the world told me to be and remembered and stepped into who I actually am. And I discovered from doing this that there is a primal life force inside of each of us that makes us alive from head to toe. And when that primal force meets our purpose, we become magnetic, radiant. And now I help wild-hearted leaders and loving rebels and even actors still, when I'm directing or teaching acting, to shift the vibe in the room when they speak. And they do that by letting go of who they were told to be or who they had to step into and stepping instead back into the untamed, radiant pulse of their purpose so they can ignite meaningful change. That is what it's going to take to change the world. Not speaking from the templates and the cookie-cutter formulas of the industrial speaking world. That experience that day in that studio and my whole time in that studio shaped how I run my programs, how I built my containers, how I hold them. I believe that the wild-hearted leaders and loving rebels of today who are trying to change the world need and deserve that kind of safe and supportive space. And from speaking, from the pulse of their purpose. That is the only way we're going to ignite change. To ignite change, we need to be able to feel the vibe in the room shift. And that doesn't come from home studies or traditional industrial one-size-fits-all speaking programs. And over the years, clients would ask me where they could go to speak in this way to practice it. And it didn't exist. So I built it. This masked up one size fits all, one way, one style, rooted in not enoughness, rooted back in the industrial era, asking us to speak from a tamed version of ourselves. Churn them out exactly the same. I get really fired up about this, as Brian Perry pointed out last season, because something fundamental is lost in those spaces. For the vast majority of people, what makes them unique gets lost in the process. It gets suppressed and hidden behind all of those cookie-cutter formulas. A few people, maybe 2%, manage to maintain their charisma, their one in 8 billion radians. But trust me, it is in spite of those programs, not because of them. The speaking industry, the industrial speaking industry, is filled with scarcity messages that prey on your inner critic and shove one size fits all techniques at you that when they don't work, which they don't for 98% of the people, make you feel like you're broken, there's something wrong with you, or you don't belong. It does harm to so many people, and it's neutral, which is what industrially created things like that are. And she remembered the light underneath, the bright spark that never burns out. And then she did the immersion and the speaker studio, and more and more felt her whole self aligning and knowing how to come back into alignment. And after going through the rite of passage initiation herself and sharing her story in front of witnesses, she said she'd never felt more grounded, present, or free speaking. And Jenny came from a different end of the spectrum. She came to me and said, I want to speak my truth, but I'm not sure my message will be good enough. She had grown up her kind of young adult years in the age of Toastmasters and Dale Carnegie and things like that, and really was not sure how to be herself in a world that has those cookie cutter rules and parameters. We first met at a networking event and instantly clicked. And she did tell me later that she wasn't even looking for anyone to help her. But after meeting me, she realized there is another way to do it that isn't cookie cutter, the soulful speaking way, a way to show up in alignment and still share a powerful message without compromising who she is. And after just seven weeks of working together, she gave me chills. She said, I understand what it's like to speak from my soul. And in just a short time, it has completely changed my life. Completely. That is the power of something that isn't cookie cutter, of treating this as a spiritual process. And I would love to invite you now, if you are not driving or jogging or riding a bike or operating heavy machinery, to go ahead and close your eyes. And feel the air on your skin. Notice your energy right here, right now, in this moment. Feel your feet on the earth or your seat in your chair. And then exhale three times out the mouth, letting go of any energy, any thoughts, any sensations, any physical armor or masks or veils that you do not need. Deeper and wider, deeper and wider, until eventually these energetic root systems plug into or wrap around the very core of the earth. And now, as you breathe, see, feel, imagine that you are drawing up nutrients and energy from Mother Earth through those root systems, gathering more energy, more energy until eventually you breathe this energy right in through the soles of your feet and up into the rest of your body. Feel it fill up your legs, your pelvis, your core, your torso, your spine, your heart, from your heart down along your arms to your physical fingertips and beyond. All the way up, clearing anything that you don't need right here, right now, in this moment in your mind, which can continue to drain out through your feet. And then also open up the crown of your head, the very tippy top, and send some upward roots up into the vast expanse of the sky of space, connecting to the moon, the sun, the stars, and your very own personal soul star in the sky. And now, as you breathe, draw energy from your soul star down in through the top of your head and to every nook and cranny of your body, and place a hand on your belly, feeling the earth and the sky energy dancing together inside of you. And imagine calling in an ally, someone real or imagined, living or passed on, animal, vegetable, or mineral? And invite this entity to send a little extra energy to your heart and through your heart, and together with them set an intention for the rest of your day today. What kind of vibe do you want to create in the rooms that you are going to speak in? Small, medium, large, virtual, in-person. How are you shifting the world in every room that you enter? And notice your body, your breath, and your energy now. And open your heart and begin to send your one in eight billion radiance out through your heart. And nourish your body with a slightly deeper breath in preparation to speak and to be the air conditioner shifting the energy in the rooms that you enter. See, feel yourself going into the speaking arena of your dreams, the one that's calling to you. It might be starting your own podcast, appearing on a podcast, or it might even be stepping onto a red TED Talk stage. See, feel yourself entering that arena with an intention set, with your heart open, with breath nourishing your body and supporting the sound of your voice, with your energetic arms hugging the room. And notice and feel how the faces are transformed. The faces, the body language, and the vibe in the room is shifting as you speak. Breathe that in. Allow your whole self, mind, body, heart, and soul to enjoy that. And now go ahead and open your eyes again and come back to here today. If any part of this has resonated with you, if you're wanting to speak from your whole being, if you know that you are here to shift the rooms that you are in, check out the soulful speaking immersion.
