In this episode of Extra Shot of Chai, we’re bursting the Bollywood bubble and talking about the movies that got way too much hype for reasons we still can’t figure out. From “event films” with star-studded casts to box office juggernauts that left us snoozing, we’re spilling our honest (and probably controversial) takes on which films didn’t live up to the buzz.
Were they carried by PR, star power, or just collective delusion? Grab your chai, because we’re naming names, rolling eyes, and asking the real question: was it hype, or was it actually good?

you
SPEAKER_07Hello, Mani! Hi, Kavi! What's up, dude? Not much. It's been a Bollywood week for me. Oh, good! So, tell me, what have you watched? I watched a bunch of movies. You're going to be surprised. I watched Meri Hazbin Ki Biwi. Is that
SPEAKER_08the Akshay Kumar?
SPEAKER_07No, no. It's the Arjun Kapoor movie with Rakul Preet. Oh, it just came out, right? And Bhoomi Pedankar, yeah. Like
SPEAKER_08a few
SPEAKER_07months ago? A few months ago. The song that was like, you know, Gori He Kalaiyan? Yeah, yeah, yeah. How was it? I think it was good in the sense that the story was fine. they could have changed some things here and there but it wasn't like so horrible but I had a fun time watching it I think it was fun Bumi was really good and I compare her to Royals and I'm just like what happened she does have good movies
SPEAKER_08like when when the character suits her she does
SPEAKER_07have good movies she does
SPEAKER_08and when the character does not suit her she has really dumb things
SPEAKER_07yeah and Raku is so pretty
SPEAKER_08actually I liked her in South Indian movies I don't like any of her
SPEAKER_07new movies her North Indian movies I guess probably they're all like very commercial style maybe maybe that's what it is but I every time I've seen her and every time I've seen her do stuff she's pretty she's very pretty I like her a lot so yeah I watched that and then oh you kept going I kept going again it's a Bollywood for me okay Metro Indino came out on Netflix and I'm not a big fan oh I wasn't a big fan because Life in a Metro was so good so I'm gonna tell you I watched that too oh okay so do the compare all right let's do it so Metro Indino I watched that first right I was like oh let me just watch it I want to see what it's about and everyone no one was bad in this everyone acting was great I just didn't like how they did the movie the timing of the songs just didn't make sense to me something about it I didn't I don't know I just didn't like it I personally didn't like it that's
SPEAKER_08strange because Life in a Metro is
SPEAKER_07very
SPEAKER_08different
SPEAKER_07yes it is it's similar concept but very different and so much better stories were
SPEAKER_08so good in Life in a
SPEAKER_07Metro so I finished Metro and The stories themselves weren't bad. I just don't think they were finished properly, in my opinion. There's a lot of lack of communication in each of the stories. Okay. And I was just like, the whole concept of this... Does it
SPEAKER_08connect at the end? Because that's what Life in a Metro did, right? Like, it was different, different stories, but then there was some
SPEAKER_07kind of connection. There was some connection in it, but I just think the movie, the direction wasn't good for me, whatever it was. Life in a Metro, I watched that afterwards, and I think it was so well done. Yeah. The stories... were really well but I felt like they did a better job in how the story flowed and how each of the stories didn't seem unfinished yeah some of the stories just felt unfinished in Metro and Dino and life in life in a Metro didn't feel that way the music was much better the way the music flowed the way the story was in it I liked it I really liked Metro I like love in a Metro and I feel like Metro and Dino just missed the mark
SPEAKER_08so are people missing out if they don't watch Metro and Dino
SPEAKER_07I personally don't think they're missing out honestly I don't think they're missing out
SPEAKER_08okay I'm gonna pretend that it never happened because Life in the Metro was so good I'm gonna pretend Metro and Dino didn't happen because I don't want to ruin that one for me it was so good so it was a Bollywood week for you it seems like it was semi Bollywood for me so you were so convincing in last week's episode yes about Bulbul yes I watched it okay and hmm it was good yeah but uh it wasn't you you're right it wasn't as creepy or jump scare or anything like that but I just felt like something was not off but it just wasn't like great for me but it was good it was good it was good and she did both everybody acted very well even the guy the Satya whatever yeah yeah the brother guy he was really really good too like everybody acted really well he's a very good actor I've never seen him
SPEAKER_07before he's in the
SPEAKER_08other movie that's on Netflix he looks like I'm gonna say it a poor man's version of Run For Your Sake yes I can see that I can absolutely see that yeah not Not that Ranveer Singh, I think, is very handsome, but this guy is even less. I see what you're saying. But he's a good actor, though.
SPEAKER_07He's a very good actor. But everyone's acting was really good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I mean, Rahul Bose, we knew he was going to be good. Thripti, like, I'm not that keen on her acting, but I thought she was very good in this. That sister-in-law
SPEAKER_07was also very good. Again, every person was good. It was
SPEAKER_08mainly those four characters and that doctor guy. I've seen him before. He's good. It was good. I would recommend watching it if you have nothing to watch and you want to watch kind of a more serious movie, this is a movie for you to watch. I thought the
SPEAKER_07storyline was good. I thought the story was really
SPEAKER_08good. Did you like the story? It was good. It was just the creepy factor of it for me was a little like, because I'm not into supernatural
SPEAKER_07creepiness. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It wasn't very supernatural, but it was like weird. It was weird. It's a weird concept, but I liked the concept of it. So that was my thing. I liked how they took that and twisted it around. I personally liked that. So
SPEAKER_08like I told you, it was like Mandela murder-y. It's the very same type of Mandela murder type of creepiness. So if you like that kind of stuff, this is a good movie. Okay, cool. I'm glad you watched it. And then I also watched my non-Bollywood thing Eminem has a documentary out called Stan it is so good and I love Eminem number six I was gonna say isn't that one of your husbands number six yeah Okay, Mundi. What's the talk of the town? Give us your trending topics. Bollywood buzz highlights. All right.
SPEAKER_07Trending topics. Talk of the town. Your favorite movie is finally out.
SPEAKER_08Which one?
SPEAKER_07Param Sundari. Ew. Okay. Okay. Finally got released. I mean, there's multiple. I'm seeing different type of reviews. I've only seen
SPEAKER_08bad ones. And mainly, a lot of the South Indians, especially the Malay alams, are saying, why is John V. Kapoor... portraying a Malayali like this because apparently it's very bad
SPEAKER_07stereotypical. It's very stereotypical. But I've seen it even in the beginning when I saw it and I was like, why didn't they just get a Malayali actress? There's so many good ones. And I feel like it would have been so much better and it probably would have done way better when it released if they had a Malayali actress. Keep it authentic. Keep it authentic. And especially now that we're trying to pan India, that we're trying to get everyone to watch everything, why didn't you get a Malayali actress? if you want to keep John V Kapoor why not make
SPEAKER_08her Tamil or Telugu
SPEAKER_07because that is she is that Sri Devi is Tamil she's half that isn't she so like you could have done that why did you do that and then they portrayed like like very stereotypical coconut cutting climbing trees all these different like flowers in the hair and like and I don't know any of those type of things but like I'm reading reviews from Malayali people who are saying like why are you making it so stereotypical especially in 2025 why are you doing that like you come on like do a little bit of research there's so many good movies out there see how they're portraying it and do it that way I
SPEAKER_08mean you know me and my Maloo movies they are amazing and I even in the Maloo movies I've seen I don't see those Malayalam actors like the actors portrayed that way
SPEAKER_07so why are they doing that so I've seen like reviews from like real people who've actually went and watched it and they said it's really bad the plot of the movie is Sid because he looks good because he's good looking but other than that there's nothing else and then I've seen reviews from like you know people who get paid five stars five stars like what are you five starring it for like I've only
SPEAKER_08seen bad reviews I must be from the real people
SPEAKER_07all right so last week I came back and I told you about Govinda and Sunita right yeah so this is a tell us what has happened since this this is a developing story so apparently they're not getting divorced so are you saying we're liars we're liars or we're just spreading rumors but like but no we were spreading rumors based on what we saw what we saw what was coming last week yes but this week no they're like all like I love him and he loves me and he has all these lovey-dovey words for me. Almost like overdoing it. Overdoing it. That's what it felt like to me. And I was saying I was a PR strut. Like they need to do something for either their son's movie coming out or something like that. Oh, he's coming out in a movie? Yeah, he's doing a
SPEAKER_08movie. Yeah. Oh,
SPEAKER_07okay. Because Sunita came out and said, oh, Ahan's movie like is okay, but like my son's movie is going to be better. Whoa, those are big words. Those are
SPEAKER_08big words. Yikes.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, yeah. Okay. Anyway, they are not getting divorced apparently. So whatever happening there.
SPEAKER_08Good. for them
SPEAKER_07we all talked about how bad war was war 2 was so YRF has noticed how bad war 2 was and how hyped they made this movie that they are reshaping alpha alpha is the female movie spyverse movie with Alia and Shavari they're supposed to be in it and they're reshaping it and they're gonna change some things around it because how bad war 2 was
SPEAKER_08so I saw I don't know if you sent it to me or I sent it to you I just saw it but I saw like a meme or something it was another like just regular Instagrammer and they were saying that after seeing War 2 YRF just should stop making the Spyverse series
SPEAKER_07like it's so bad apparently that's so bad because I felt like the Spyverse was kind of cool I like the intertwining of the characters I personally thought the idea the concept is cool it's like Marvel right yeah exactly it's cool when
SPEAKER_08you see like Iron Man in like
SPEAKER_07Captain America and they say of things I thought the concept was really cool but I feel like they need to like they need to really focus on the story hopefully Alpha is better hopefully they do a good job on like restructuring it and but also Alpha is releasing the same type as Karthik Aryan's movie is coming out the Ashtaki 3 you know because they moved it because Sayara come out so they moved it to like I think Christmas weekend I think it was so Alpha is supposed to come out this year? Alpha is coming out this year oh I didn't know Alpha is coming out this year so it's supposed to be it seems
SPEAKER_08so soon after war 2
SPEAKER_07I think so too but I feel like it's a different maybe because it's female I'm not sure but it's supposed to come out December Christmas Christmas week I think it's supposed to come out so it's coming at the same time so we'll see which one does good there
SPEAKER_08well I think I know in my head
SPEAKER_07Oh, also, did you know that there's, like, really good water that just came out in India? Bisleri.
SPEAKER_08No. Then?
SPEAKER_07That's the best water out there. Eco-friendly water that Bumi and her sister have just, like, are marketing that this is their water. Oh, my God. Did you see the clip? I sent it to you, the clip.
SPEAKER_01Let's watch it right now. Okay. Just to take you back from where it comes. Now, imagine a glacier. Water starts going down from a glacier. It goes into, you know, a stream, you know, up in the hills, up in the Himalayas, where there's no human interaction, nothing, right? Now, that water obviously starts getting soaked into the soil as well. And through that process, it's just picking up minerals and electrolytes. It's becoming better water with every journey that that drop is taking. And that's how it sort of accumulates its minerals. There's no chemical process that's done to... Okay, dude, what the F are they saying?
SPEAKER_07I have no idea. Glaciers and... the water, minerals, oil, earth, like what? I don't think they know what they're saying. They're retailing it and I'm pretty sure I saw it was for 200 rupees a bottle. For one bottle? Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I think you get Bisleri water for like 50 rupees or something.
SPEAKER_07That's crazy. I don't understand what's happening because apparently this has been their childhood dream to bring this type of water to the... Childhood dream. One of the clips I saw that it was a childhood dream and it's so strange and is she turning into one of our Dululu friends I don't know if it's Dululu or like full of yourself I don't know what it is I don't know what's happening I'm very confused but this whole water thing is so confusing how are you marketing yourself to like how are you making yourself like even like you know relatable to the common man of India like what are you trying to do like how are you bringing that to India like 200 rupees like that's expensive that's expensive how are you bringing like I can understand like oh my dream is to give good water to the whole country so therefore you're going out to villages and like creating more water resources for them I'm doing that type of stuff. But getting water from the glaciers, I don't know where glaciers are getting. And honestly,
SPEAKER_08I'm just doing the conversion. 200 rupees is like almost$2.50,$3 a bottle. Oh my God. For a bottle of water.
SPEAKER_07My Essentia water. Yes, I drink, I'm very bougie with my water. I know. Essentia is my, it's one of my things. But like, are you kidding me? Like, what are you doing?
UNKNOWNYeah.
SPEAKER_07You know, some movies come up with so much hype, and then when you see it, you're just like,
SPEAKER_03hmm,
SPEAKER_07not what I was expecting. That's happened to me quite some time.
UNKNOWNYes.
SPEAKER_07Just like War II, with so much promotion, so much stuff happened, and it just wasn't... It didn't hit. It didn't hit for people at all. Yeah. So I think today I'm going to bring up a couple of movies that were like that for me. Overhyped? Overhyped. Okay. Very much. What's an example of an overhyped movie for you? do you remember in 2015 Shahrukh Khan yeah the year Saheed was born okay Shahrukh Khan and Kajal came back together in a movie
SPEAKER_08yes with there's two other people in it Kriti Sanan and Varun Dhawan
SPEAKER_07Varun Dhawan yes the movie was called Dilwale Dilwale no it was not just Dilwale okay it was Rohit Shetty was a director and producer Gauri Khan is a producer on it I was so excited about this movie like it when I saw the trailer of it I was like oh my god Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol and I've said this before that those two people are my favorite romantic pair to ever watch I was so excited to watch this movie I went to watch this movie and I was like what the hell am I watching oh
SPEAKER_08no so I never watched the movie but I was also you are very lucky in my baby haze I was also very excited about Shah Rukh and Kajol being back because Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gam DDLJ Yes. Like those big favorite movies till
SPEAKER_07this day are still amazing movies. I watched those movies. I could break them down and talk about how stupid they are, but I'll still watch them. But we still love them. I still love them because Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol's chemistry. Fabulous. I don't think anyone has replicated their chemistry, love chemistry in anywhere else. I haven't seen that. I don't know who I could say that has done something like that. So for me, it was like, oh my God, they're back. I'm going to go watch this movie. And I watched it with Medha. Remember our guest? Rocky Rani guest. Yes. I watched it with her and she and I went to watch this movie and we went through a lot to watch this movie because we were going to go to one theater and it was sold out. Oh no. And then we drove somewhere else to watch this movie far and we were watching it. She fell asleep multiple times during the movie. It was that bad, Monique? It was that bad and she would wake up only on scenes for Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol scenes. Okay, so give us a synopsis. Okay, so this movie is a romantic action The first
SPEAKER_08problem already is your word, action, with romantic. Oh, yeah. And Shah Rukh and Kajal. Yes. Why?
SPEAKER_07Because it's a Rohit Shetty movie, right? It's a Rohit Shetty movie. He does these type of over-the-top type of movies. Then don't cast Shah Rukh and Kajal together. Or do it, but do a good story. This story was not good. This story was about two big gangs, right? And Shah Rukh Khan's family was one. Already you lost me. Yes. Shah Rukh Khan's family was one and Kajal's family was one. yeah right and you don't know about Kajal until like all of a sudden she makes a reveal so they be like she betrays him he betrays her and they're like torn apart they're separated wait so did she
SPEAKER_08like
SPEAKER_07doka him to begin with yes she doka him in the beginning but somewhere she caused feelings too but like we see that and then like it shows them like years later they separate the years later they each have their own siblings and that's Kriti Sanon for Kajal and Varun Daon for oh they're
SPEAKER_08oh I thought they were just a random
SPEAKER_07couple no they're siblings and they to me fall in love Yeah. And then that's when Shah Rukh Khan and Kajal see each other again. Well, Kriti Sanan
SPEAKER_08got the tall jeans and that sibling.
SPEAKER_07Yes. Yeah. And Kriti Sanan was so good in this movie that she made Varun Dhawan look so bad. Oh, really?
SPEAKER_08I like both of them, but I do like Kriti Sanan a lot.
SPEAKER_07I think I disliked Varun from that movie. I cannot watch any of his movies because of that movie. He was just so cringe in that movie. I could not tolerate him. So year later these two the two siblings meet fall in love and now the older siblings have to meet each other to get this marriage that happens and then you find out all the other things happen that there was like another person in the middle of it that caused this rift between the two gangs and things like that so that was the synopsis of the movie okay it was hyped because why was it hyped because shark khan and kajal reunion makes sense it was marketed as a comeback for them too like probably the last movie they did was my name is khan maybe exactly years before in 2010 so that was the last time and then I think Kajol got like you know having kids and got busy with the you know raising her children and stuff like the family stuff and then she came back and I think she only came back because like Rohit Shetty was like come back for this movie it's gonna be really what you call so they came back and it wasn't it wasn't good and they made such a hype over this and I was like oh my god Char Khan Kajol going over watch it and then I think also the other hype was that Rohit Shetty was like doing like was he big back then I can't remember I think he was he still people still like his movies it was released during holiday season it premiered during Christmas so I think it was that That was a big thing about it. Big hype over it. They added the Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sonon aspect of it. There were like the new, the new people coming up and stuff like that. And the music. Gerwa. Gerwa. And the scenes of Gerwa in Iceland. Yeah. Every scene was so well done. So people like that romance from like Surajua Maddam style kind of. It was very similar style to that. So I think that buzz made everyone want to go watch this movie. And it just fell really flat. The story wasn't good. Like the Romeo... and Juliet type of thing that they were trying to do just didn't work for me. Like, I didn't like it. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol's scenes were good. Their chemistry still, one of the best chemistries. And in that movie, they still showed it, but I just didn't think it worked with everything that was happening. And they were trying to put some comedy in there also, and action, and drama. It just was a lot. It felt like a lot. And Varun's acting, I just have to say, I think that was the killer for me. Like, I just thought he was so bad.
SPEAKER_08I mean, like, I tried to watch it and you're right. It just didn't hit I really think that whole that type of movie you do not cast Shah Rukh and Kajal you need to like you need to have a script like a very family oriented type of movie like I think they would have been good in possibly Rocky or Rani if Rocky or Rani was like done like a few years ago right
SPEAKER_07I feel like it could have if the story was better presented if it was done better I think it could have done a good job of it I just don't think that he packaged it properly I think it was just too much happening and not enough of the too much. You know what I mean? The story wasn't that good. There was just too much of trying to put everything in together. Comedy, drama, action. It was just a lot of that going on.
SPEAKER_08So do you think the story was basically the weak
SPEAKER_07point? Yes, I think so. Absolutely. And Varun Dhawan's acting. I will go back to that. It was just Varun Dhawan's acting. And I think maybe it was the hype of it that you were expecting it to be a really good Shah Rukh Kajal and it was not and you're just like kind of like let down because of that so that was like the overhype for me so
SPEAKER_08basically the overhype was the big cast the star cast and then the music was good you said too yes huge promos huge promos
SPEAKER_07and then it was everywhere you watch and you're like yeah it got like a 5 out of 10 in IMDB or something like that and like 20% on Rotten Tomatoes alright so well if anybody
SPEAKER_08did watch Bilvali and liked it please let us know yeah and what you liked about it too yes because maybe we missed some Maybe, yeah, maybe, maybe. I miss
SPEAKER_05it.
SPEAKER_08Okay, I have another movie for you that I felt was overhyped. I don't know if other people did. Yes. But I definitely felt like it was overhyped. Student of the Year, the original one in 2012. The first one? Yes, the original with Alia Butt, Varun Devan, and Siddharth Malhotra. Three newbies, right? Alia Butt was a star kid, Varun Devan, star kid, Sid, hot kid. The hot kid, the plot in
SPEAKER_07every movie.
SPEAKER_08Yes, but I don't know, like I... There was so much hype and promo around this movie. And I don't think it was more because of the actors. I just think it was a Karan Johar movie, right? And he always goes overboard. And he loves Alia Bhatt. But we didn't know he loved Alia Bhatt until that movie. Until that movie came out, right? So I watched it. And I'm like, this is dumb. I thought it was such a dumb movie. First of all, the college set. It looked like a fashion show, a sports club. a nightclub like I didn't go to college like this
SPEAKER_07like it was so confusing because some of the times when they do these type of things you're like oh they actually have cheerleaders in India and then when you talk to people from India like no we don't have cheerleaders like this this doesn't happen and the whole premise of the movie was about this student of the year competition like no one studied like Olympics or something everyone just focused on this
SPEAKER_08one title competition like what yes and it was like out of touch with like real life like right like it's very it's one of the they're Gucci's and they're this and that or whatever. But like, okay, take it back to Kuch Kuch Hota, right? It was not Gucci, it was Gap back then, right? But I still feel like there was a good storyline that you were following. I guess if you think about it. I mean, if you break it down, we broke it down. But back then, very relevant, right? Like not relevant, but just like a very nice movie. Very nice movie. And I just, there was no substance for me. I know I did talk to a lot of people at the time that were like, oh my God, I love Student of the Year. I love Student of the Year.
SPEAKER_07Like I haven't, I don't know anyone that has said that. You know who
SPEAKER_08these
SPEAKER_07people were? High school kids, middle schoolers, literally because... Why are you talking to middle schooler and high schooler? I
SPEAKER_08mean, my cousin's kids, things like that, right? And they loved Student of the Year. And Sahej watched it recently. He's like, Mom, it's so good. I'm like, oh,
SPEAKER_07great. It's like a high school musical. It's like a high school musical. That's probably why they like it.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, so I didn't like it. There was a love triangle because, of course, you got the two boys and the one girl. There's the competition with the whatever. And then there's some friendship drama. that was happening in the background. I just felt that this was so overhyped. Songs were really, really good. I really liked all the songs, especially the Radha song. Yeah, Radha song. Everybody still loves that Radha song. I just feel like the storyline did not hit, and it was so overhyped. Again, Karan Johar is extra. So let me give you the synopsis of this movie. Yes. It was set in St. Teresa's College, and everybody looked like a fashion model, basically, rather than a campus. It was revolved around Varun Dhawan Sid Malhotra and Alia Butt and they're like really good friends at first yes but then you know what always the problem with two boys and a girl is somebody's always gonna fall in love with somebody and then it all just all goes downhill
SPEAKER_07the girl falls in love with one guy and the other guy it's sad
SPEAKER_08yeah and it all goes downhill and you lost your friendship it's so stupid don't do that people and basically it's like the competition betrayals and there's this big finale for the student of the year trophy it was really stupid really stupid and that's like I don't know that's the best synopsis I can give for this movie
SPEAKER_07I think you're right because I think that's what what was happening and then like I think the funniest part of it was that Sid was supposed to be poor in that movie middle class but he was only wearing designer shirts and things like that of course he didn't
SPEAKER_08but
SPEAKER_07yeah you're
SPEAKER_08right he
SPEAKER_07definitely was not
SPEAKER_08shopping at Walmart no he was not he was only middle class he went
SPEAKER_07to Tyson's Galleria exactly like okay you You're not poor. They try to make him like, oh, he's like a scholarship student. Like, okay, why is he wearing expensive clothes? Where is this coming from?
SPEAKER_08Exactly. But yeah, again, I think the movie was totally overhyped with the promos. And like I said, Karan Johar always goes extra. The three kids did a great job acting. I think that their acting was good. Their dancing was good. You and your Varun Dhawan. I'm sorry, but... Varun Dhawan. That's two movies with Varun Dhawan
SPEAKER_07already. Don't worry, there's another one of mine. Lovely.
SPEAKER_08I don't mind him. I think he's okay. But yeah, I was not, again, I don't think this was a good movie. I'm sure we're going to get another perspective from other people. Maybe. The high schoolers, the middle schoolers are going to love this. I did not like it.
SPEAKER_07It's a very Karan Johar movie, right? Like it was very Karan Johar style because it was released on a holiday. But it was like
SPEAKER_08bad Karan Johar style.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, but like it does his over-the-top stuff, right? Yes. Like the glamour, the songs, the over-the-top sets. Yes. The star cast because also Rishika was in it oh right he was uh the principal he was a principal in it yeah he had these big stars and you like promoted it non-stop and then it was released on a holiday weekend with india india day or something that in october so like it was pretty yeah so yeah it had all the current johar flavor that he goes by and it's probably one of the first movies i think of that i realized it was a current johar movie and didn't do good you know like yeah usually all of his movies are just but that's one of the first ones that started with his nepotism that popped up and that's when he first i think first got called out for nepotism from from then on because it's alia and varun that are both nepo kids and then sit again i don't know where he came from but he was there he's just hot yeah and there's so much like there's so much like yeah that's that's
SPEAKER_08another scandal beside
SPEAKER_07them
SPEAKER_08yeah yeah okay so i don't know what did you think about the movie did you ever watch it
SPEAKER_07i did watch it i thought it was entertaining to watch on tv like i wouldn't watch it in the theater in the theater like it's not a theater watch for me like it's like got entertaining and i wanted to see alia let me watch it and see and And again, Varun Dhawan just doesn't work for me. Sid is hot. And I watched it for Sid. I might have to take a Varun Dhawan under my wing like Tiger Shroff now. Oh, God. And never watch any of their movies. I love them, but I don't watch any of their movies. I watch Varun Dhawan movies. But it was the marketing that tricked us, though. Oh, yeah. It was this huge thing.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. All right. Well, student of the year for us. Overhyped.
SPEAKER_03And everybody plays it on, right? Oh
SPEAKER_07All right, so we're going to be three for three on Varun Dhawan movies. No problem. Oh, VD, man. VD, I'm sorry. You might be David Dhawan's son and he had made some great movies, but you just don't have it. I don't know what to say about him. All right, what's this
SPEAKER_08third VD movie?
SPEAKER_07All right, do you remember Kalank?
SPEAKER_08Oh my God, how excited I was. And it wasn't because of VD. It was because Madhuri was coming back.
SPEAKER_072019, it was produced, again, another Karan Johar, over the top movie, over the set the release times, the songs, all of that. And his favorite, Alia Butt, was in this movie. Oh, VD and Alia. VD and Alia. Again, those two are in the movie. And I was very excited to watch this because the promos looked so good. Music was fantastic. Music first class. Yes. Garamore Pardesi. Yes. Like they were so good and I was so excited to watch this. And Alia looked really good. And then Madhuri and Sanjay Dutt coming back in a movie. I was like, again, similar to Maidilwal where I was like oh Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol the nostalgia coming with him so Madhuri and Sanjay Dutt was gonna be this great thing for me
SPEAKER_08and that was made a big deal because remember like Madhuri and Sanjay Dutt had like a little romantic-y thing and they had never done a movie after that after that whole romantic thing and after she got married yeah they never did a movie I think Kalnaik was your last movie together right and so there was like this weird like thing like oh my god what's gonna happen they're like both married now and blah blah blah it was fine I mean they weren't in
SPEAKER_07very many scenes together that's the thing right the whole story So let me tell you what the synopsis of this is. Tell me. So it was set in the 1940s. So before the partition of India, Pakistan, you know, all of that stuff. And the story starts with this like Alia Bhatt's character whose name is Roop and Aditya Roy Kapoor is also, oh, Aditya Roy Kapoor is in it also. But he's
SPEAKER_08like not in it, but in
SPEAKER_07it. He's in it. He's in it. He's in the third case. Two boys and a girl. That's him. That's him. Yeah. He's in it. And the story starts off weird. Okay. He's already married. But his wife is trying to get him to marry someone else. Because she's dying. Oh yeah. Okay. So Nakshi Sinha is his wife. Dumb. Okay. And so that's how it starts off. The first scene is her trying to find another wife for her husband. Because she's going to die. And she wants her husband to be taken care of. It doesn't make any sense to me. It's very straight. It's like a weird version. Because she's not dead yet. Okay. So she gets him to marry. Because he loves his wife so much. Again, Judayi. Similar to Judayi. Loves his wife so much. Gives into her reasoning for him to marry someone else. So he marries Rup. Rup agrees to this marriage. Rup is Aliabad. Aliabad. The reason she agrees to this marriage is not because she loves Aditya. It's because she's going to get kind of a financial support from this family. Like her family, she's from more of a poorer family and her siblings need help and going to school, whatever. They're going to take care of them. entire family if she does this so she agrees to this to her family but she's kind of like rebellious about this like it doesn't make any sense like why are you doing it and then being rebellious about it so she gets married and then she meets when she goes moves to the city and she's like doesn't want to be part of this so she kind of felt like she was blackmailed to do this you know kind of like that for like and now she's like wants to live her life and she meets Varun Zafar he's like a blacksmith she meets him and like they start hanging out and he meets like Madhuri she goes Madhuri's
SPEAKER_08his mom right?
SPEAKER_07Madhuri is Varun's mom and you find out later on. Right. And the dad is Sanjay Dutt. So he's the illegitimate son of Madhuri and Sanjay Dutt. And Sanjay Dutt was like some big... He is Aditya. He's Aditya's father. Oh, right.
SPEAKER_08And he's like a higher caste and Madhuri's like a courtesan.
SPEAKER_07Well, she's a courtesan. Yeah, she's that. But like, so they send Alia to go to the courtesan because back in the day they weren't known as like, I think we talked about during Haramandi where like Those ladies weren't considered bad. They were just considered the top, the arts of the culture. So she was going there to learn that. And that's where she meets Varun, kind of meets Varun, and they have a little bit of a story. But the story didn't make, their love story didn't make sense to me. Already doesn't make sense. The whole thing made zero sense. And it just felt very choppy. You don't know the story behind Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri. Why did they not get together? What happened? Yeah,
SPEAKER_08I felt that way when I was watching it. I was like, wait, so how are these people in the story?
SPEAKER_07Yeah, it didn't make any sense about them. got it you're like what is happening they never they were never on screen together really and i don't know if they were like cut out or something sunakshi senna is like i don't think they wanted to work together and probably not sunakshi senna um sunakshi senna's character like you don't know why she what's her like why is she dying what's her disease what's her disease how is she dying why is it like this and why is she convincing this girl to get married to her husband like it makes zero sense like it doesn't make any sense that why are you forcing someone to get married to your husband like what is the it doesn't make any sense it didn't make sense it's not a it wasn't a movie for this time period. Any time period it sounds like. I don't understand. It was very confusing. Yeah. And then Varun Dhalan's story. Because it's
SPEAKER_08not like there's some royal family and they need a queen
SPEAKER_07or something. Or they need a child or something. It was very unclear. And if they put those subplots, if they put those stories in there, maybe it made sense. We can make it make sense. But it didn't make any sense. Why like Alia agreed to this and then was annoyed by everything didn't make any sense. And then like we didn't like, I didn't feel anything for Varun Dhalan. Like even though like. I mean you don't feel anything for him anyway. In general. You're right. And I feel like Madhuri's So I'm not even going to take that as part of
SPEAKER_08your opinion for this movie.
SPEAKER_07I feel like Madhuri's character didn't have any real role. They could have put anyone. Why waste her talent in this movie? I mean, her dance was there. I mean, yes, it was. But that's it. One song of hers was there and then that was it. So I don't know. I didn't like it at all. I feel like, again, the hype about this movie was that it was Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt, Varun Dalan, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri coming in. The songs were great. Apparently it was a passion project for Karan Johar. It was inspired by his dad, Yash Johar. Before he passed away? Before he passed away. He really wanted it. Because this was a making for a long time. I think Karan Johar talked about it for a long time. See,
SPEAKER_08that's why it was choppy. I'm sure the script was very different back then and it changed throughout the years. That's probably what happened. Because I heard, I think it was supposed to be
SPEAKER_07Sridevi. Yes, it was supposed to be Sridevi. Sridevi's come Madhuri plays Sridevi's character. Because Sridevi wouldn't
SPEAKER_08just do anything.
SPEAKER_07You're right, but I just don't... I don't think Madhuri would just do anything either. I don't think so, though. But maybe, like, the script changed. Yeah, I don't know what happened. They had huge promotions. Yeah. So much of it promoting. And then, in the end, they were calling it, like, the Bollywood, like, Mughlai Azam Deobda style. And it felt like Karan Johar was really trying to copy Sanjay Leela Bhansali's style. The set and stuff, yeah. The sets and the colors. IMDB gives it 3.6 out of 10. Wow. Okay. People were calling it out. Like, it just says... One of the social media people said, Kalang proves that the sets don't make the cinema, which is true. No, 100%. Sets were beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. Visually, it's a nice movie to watch. Visually, it's great, but it tanks so badly in the theaters. In real life. In real life, yeah. So no
SPEAKER_08more Kalangs, please. No. And no more over-hyping of these Kalang type
SPEAKER_05movies. Please, stop it.
SPEAKER_08So I have a movie for you. Yes. You went and watched this in the theater.
SPEAKER_07Yes. Is it a Brandon Allen movie? No.
SPEAKER_08I tried to watch this and I couldn't even get through it. But it's an Aliya movie though, isn't it? Yes. Brahmastra. Ugh. Part one. Okay. Shiva. Okay. This was so overhyped for years. Like not a month, not two months, not one year, not two years, almost 10 plus years.
SPEAKER_07I think the moment it started... started like deciding they're gonna do this movie it was hype from that moment on yes and then when they started casting everyone it was hype from there and that was in 2014 yes do you know when the movie came out 2020 2022 2022 yes so
SPEAKER_08it's been hyped for over 20 to 10 years okay let me give you the synopsis yes so it follows this guy named Shiva he's a DJ played by Ranbir Kapoor but he discovers like some mystical connection already you've lost me
SPEAKER_07mystical connection I'm gonna say something I like movies like that in in even in the western I do too I like this mystical I love I love all that concept of it I do I like that type of stuff
SPEAKER_08but usually I like that kind of stuff too mystical like when it like for example Kalki went back to Mahabharata times and then came back to present day or whatever the present day for them was right so anyway he finds this mystical connection to like fire and he realizes he literally can't be burnt like he just can't it doesn't affect his superpower sure that's a superpower fire is a superpower he Yes, that's his superpower. And then he learns that he's tied to some ancient secret society called the Brahmansh and that they guard a divine weapon called the Astras, Brahmastra, right? And Alia is his love interest and I think they were dating at this time. They started dating from that movie on. Okay, so yeah, so they started dating. And then Amitabh Bachchan is his mentor and it's just, he sets out to like destroy whatever this thing is using the Brahmastra, like this bad world that's going to be happening or whatever. Now, let's talk about cast. Yes. Ranbir Kapoor, great. Yes. Alia Bhatt, great.
SPEAKER_07I think in this movie she was like... Generally. Yeah. Generally. In general, yes. Right?
SPEAKER_08Amitabh? Yes. The biggest movie star of Bollywood, right? They had guest appearances by Shah Rukh Khan. Yes. They had a guest appearance by Nagarjun, who's in the Telugu movie industry, one of the best Telugu movie industries actors. Yes. Now, I I told you I couldn't get through this movie. I started watching this movie because I was excited because I do like Ranbir Kapoor. I do like Ali. I do like Shah Rukh. And I started watching it and I'm like, the first part of the movie is Shah Rukh Khan, right? Yes. And I started watching this and I'm like, oh my God, I'm so bored. I could not get through this movie. And I watched this movie with Sahej and my friend Anjana and Jayan. We like, it was on Hulu. We purchased a Hulu plan to watch this movie. Oh, wow. And it was so bad that we had to turn it off. Our kids were like, what is this, mom? And we're like, you're right, what is this? And we turned it off and watched like Paw Patrol or something. It was terrible. So I, again, overhyped, totally overhyped because again, all the actors, great actors, I think they were trying to use this mystical thing and like make it like a... They were calling it Astroverse, right? Astroverse.
SPEAKER_07They were promoting it so... Yes, that's what I'm looking for. They were promoting it so heavy as this Marvel style Marvel Universe, Astroverse. Astroverse. Spyverse. What are they doing? Yes. What are they doing? This Astroverse, they're trying to, and I agree. When we saw the trailers, I was like, this action, I saw the trailers, I thought it looked really good. I was very hyped about it. I was like, oh, India's finally doing this great, like, effects. It looks really cool. The music, there's a song in it that it's like a religious song, but I absolutely love it. And it's called Deva Deva I. I was like, I was, I was listening to that song working out. Again, remember, this was during COVID when it was coming out right before COVID. So like I was listening to that track nonstop because I love that. I don't know something about that song. I mean,
SPEAKER_08one good thing that came out of this movie is the songs. Yes. And the best, I think the best. So you like Deva Deva? Quesaria. Oh, yes. I forgot about Quesaria. That is Sahej's favorite song. You give him a mic and he will just sing that song for you. That was a beautiful song. It's such a great song. So the reason why I think it failed is the storyline was so bad. The actors were great. I mean, I think they were good at in terms
SPEAKER_07of the acting no one should use her I think Alia the entire movie Shiva Shiva oh I heard that that was Alia's line that was her acting that was all she did so I
SPEAKER_08mean again there was endless promotions they had multi-city store they had multi-city tours huge music launch social media teasers because we did not know that Shah Rukh Khan was going to be a cameo. It was only when the movie released. I feel like we had a hint. There was hints. There was hints. But we didn't know it was going to be
SPEAKER_07Shah Rukh Khan. And they added him towards the end, I think. I think they realized the movie's not going to do good. They need a bigger name in it. They added Shah Rukh Khan in it. Yes,
SPEAKER_08because they announced Nagarjan. I remember that. They announced Amitabh. I remember that. But Shah Rukh Khan was a total big surprise, right? For all of us. So they did all of this and it was a dud. This movie is terrible. But then we did read, I think it was a blind... where I think the first movie is supposed to be like really sucky. And then there's, it's like a series.
SPEAKER_07It's supposed to be a series, right? So it's supposed to be multiple series, parts to it. It's supposed to lead up to
SPEAKER_08something very, very good. It's supposed to. All right. Well, let's see. Maybe, maybe this is going to be a hit in the future, but Brahmastra overhyped and very bad.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Tujh se saari chakoriyan Kajal ki siyahi se likhi hai Tune jaane kitno ki love storiyan Kesariya tera ishq hai piya Rang jaun jo main haath lagaun Din beete saara teri fikr mein I
SPEAKER_08have three really good blinds for us today.
SPEAKER_05Oh.
SPEAKER_08Because it is blindy-windy time. It's blindy-windy. Okay. Let's hear these blinds. Okay. This obese choreographer was named in the Me Too movement, but the courts cleared him and he escaped unscathed. As per a source, some of his dancers are fed up with his casual sexism and predatory behavior. They may call him out soon. Can you guess the choreographer?
SPEAKER_07The South dancer, right? No. Ganesh Acharya. Isn't he South?
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_07I thought he was South.
SPEAKER_08He's Mr. Govinda's number one choreographer.
SPEAKER_07I was thinking in my head, but I thought he was. Wait, did he do Uwantawa? Yes. Yeah, that's him. That's who I was thinking South.
SPEAKER_08So I didn't know he was named in the Me Too movement. Yeah, he was. I remember this. Oh, wow. So he's a Mr. Naughty Naughty fellow. Ew. Ew. But I could see it.
SPEAKER_07Really? I can see it the way he, like, I can definitely see it.
SPEAKER_08Well, I mean, he's still pretty well
SPEAKER_07respected because he gets really good work, like Uwantawa, like you just said. Who is not Who has been named a Me Too movement and has not got respect in Bollywood? Shakti Kapoor has an entire video of him and he's still doing movies. I was just going to say,
SPEAKER_08I think you just dropped the mic. Let's move on to the next blind. Okay, next blind. This A-list superstar is notorious for being temperamental, moody, and difficult to work with. Salman Khan? Yeah. Can I finish the blind though? My bad. The director of his upcoming war movie movie got a taste of it when the superstar abruptly canceled the first shoot of this shoot schedule of his movie. The shoot resumed recently after issues were resolved. And yes, you're correct. It is Salman Khan. He's doing a movie called Battle of Battle of Galvan. Yes. And apparently he's just been
SPEAKER_07Salman Khan. Well, that's why I heard like his movie Sikandar did so bad was because he the director was just like his schedule like Salman Khan would come late hours late to. He still does that nonsense. That's what I'm saying. He does that
SPEAKER_08all the time. Interesting. All right. And your last blind. Yes. This star kid actress was trolled by content creators from the South Indian state for getting the direction for getting the diction wrong in her upcoming movie. The studio aggressively sent notices to these content creators. Meanwhile, the star kids sent a long list of demands to organizers of a renowned renowned
SPEAKER_07renowned
SPEAKER_08renowned gun in Mumbai. They shot them down and seated her in the VIP zone and not the VVIP zone, which generally is for the movie celebs. Can you guess the actress?
SPEAKER_07Oh God, we talked about this. John B. Kapoor, right? Yes. I did hear that a lot of the content creators that were creating content about her, you know, her accent and all that type of stuff, they were like contacted to remove those things. Yeah, a lot of
SPEAKER_08them. Matic Films apparently sent legal notices to all of these content creators that were like basically saying this is terrible.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And yeah.
SPEAKER_07I think there was one girl that I said that her content had to be removed but then she did another video of it talking about like how they got her removed and that she's still going to talk about it because Good. She should. You know
SPEAKER_08what? Because like people don't want this like fake stuff anymore. No. No one wants fake stuff anymore. Especially now that you're going to South India now and picking up actors. Why wouldn't you actually portray us
SPEAKER_07or like I said make her a Tamil girl. A lot of people say the exact same thing what you're saying. Either go get someone from that area. From Kerala. From there that speaks that way. A Malayalee actress. There's so many actresses out there that can do it. Or just make her character not be Malayalee. Make her be Tamil. Like her mom's half Tamil but like superstar in Telugu and Tamil. So she's got some of that. She could have easily just played a Tamil character. A Tamilian character. Like why is that? Dodo bird. Why did you guys do that? So like you brought it upon yourself. Okay? You did. And I'm super surprised by Madhaka. Cause you know, they do, they've done some good movies. So I'm like kind of surprised that this is what they did. It
SPEAKER_08could have been this drama queen. Like remember she was a drama queen just now.
SPEAKER_07She's doing another movie called Sunny Senskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Actually, you
SPEAKER_08know what? That kind of looks like a fun movie. I just, I
SPEAKER_07can't
SPEAKER_08with her. I know it's VD
SPEAKER_07and JK. Just joking. What the hell was that? John B. Kapoor, JK. Okay. But like, I just don't get why she's in so many movies. Like I need to understand what's happening. and I don't see it the only thing that's going for her she's a good dancer I think that's she's a really good dancer I don't think she's pretty I don't think she has expressions I don't think she's a good actress I just don't know why she's in movies I don't know
SPEAKER_08and with that that is our blinds for today okay
SPEAKER_07bye bye
SPEAKER_08Alright, it is vow time. What are the polls
SPEAKER_07saying this week? Ooh, the polls said Danger from Param Sundari. You know, that song sounds like every other song. Okay, I don't think so. I think it's a fun song. I have a really good time listening to it. It sounds like Kala Chashmati. Oh, okay. No, I think it's so fun. I love the song. I sent it to my nieces and it's part of your song playlist now. Oh, good.
SPEAKER_08Well, okay. I'm glad some people like it.
SPEAKER_05Control of nature Uh...
SPEAKER_07What's your vow? All right. My vow this week is called Gia Lagina. Gia Lagina. And it's by Aditya Rikari. Okay. Oh, you like this guy. I do like this guy. It's his new song that just came out. It just dropped. Shirley Setia and Ravatar. I don't know who Ravatar is. Okay. Yeah, but it's a fun song. I
SPEAKER_02think it's really cute. Okay. Okay. Mine is called
SPEAKER_08Jivani and it's like an old It was like a Punjabi boliya. Like, it's an old song, but they remade it. People have remade this song so many times, and this is, I guess, the latest remake, but I really like it. It's by Raj Hire and Desi Frenzy, whoever that is. But it's a nice song. It's fun. I gotta hear it. It's fun to dance to. So I hope you guys like it. All right. Like, share, follow. Oh, and September 6th, come join us. Come party with us.
SPEAKER_07Come celebrate with us. 5,000 listens.
UNKNOWNWoo-hoo.
SPEAKER_04This is a story of love.
SPEAKER_00Thank you.
SPEAKER_08And then they were trying to like use this whole like mystical thing, I think, to like make it. I
SPEAKER_07thought you were going to cough. No, I'm
SPEAKER_08just
SPEAKER_07yawning. Sorry, I just started yawning. I didn't have enough coffee. I think. Because they because they were both astro verse people. They created him.
SPEAKER_08You sound so
SPEAKER_07ridiculous. Yeah, it's just that's what it's supposed to be. Yeah. So, yep.
UNKNOWNOh.
SPEAKER_07um damn it i forgot the name of the movie life in a metro no the one with uh what's his name arjun kapoor oh bv key something something yeah i got a full movie name i can't just say random things

SPEAKER_08Are people missing out if they watch or if they don't watch Life in Dino? Metro in Dino. What the hell
SPEAKER_07is that? Try it again. Metro in Dino. Or when beers
SPEAKER_08sink. I had Sage listen to that bloop and he's just like, mom. I'm like, I know. I think it was hilarious. I
SPEAKER_07was
SPEAKER_08like, nope, nope, nope.
UNKNOWNYeah. Okay.
