The Money Pyramid: Where Does Your Business Stand?
Ready to discover where your business truly stands on the path to financial freedom? The Money Pyramid concept reveals the sobering truth about entrepreneurship: 20% of businesses are broke, 60% are locked in endless financial struggles, 15% make a good living, 4% are prosperous, and only 1% achieve genuine wealth. Which category describes your current situation?
Most entrepreneurs don't actually own a business—they own a demanding job that drains their energy and restricts their freedom. They begin each day checking emails, putting out fires, and handling tactical problems that don't move the needle. The difference between the struggling chef who creates a job for themselves and the visionary who builds a multi-million-pound business isn't about culinary skill—it's about marketing and sales mastery.
The single most important rule for any business owner is simple yet profound: your primary responsibility is getting and keeping customers. When you develop systematic approaches to marketing that predictably generate leads and sales, you create the foundation for climbing the Money Pyramid. No amount of tactical hacks, shiny tools, or wishful thinking can replace this fundamental truth. Success requires organization, consistency, and the willingness to view your business objectively—as an investor would—to identify what needs to change.
Ready to stop winging it and become the captain of your destiny? Take time away from daily operations, assess where you currently stand on the Money Pyramid, and commit to implementing systems that will elevate your business to the next level. The journey from struggle to prosperity begins with this honest evaluation and a commitment to professional entrepreneurship rather than chaotic hustle.
Welcome to the Business Growth Blueprint Podcast. If you're an entrepreneur looking to elevate your business, you're in the right place. In today's fast-paced world, growing your business is more than just numbers. It's about making great marketing decisions to build meaningful connections, increase your revenue and keep your customers not just satisfied but truly happy, so you can live your life on your terms. Let's get started.
Speaker 1:Hello and welcome to the Business Growth Blueprint with me, your host, mark Fitzgerald. It's great to have you joining me here today. So I wanted to start this episode off with you thinking we're going to do a lot of thinking whilst you listen to this podcast. So if you're driving or you're out walking and you can't write things down, then do check out the podcast again, where you can go through and make notes, because I'm hoping that by delivering and giving you each and every episode, each and every blueprint going forward, that it's really going to help you to get systems working in your business, to really work out your own methodology to get the results that you want. And, of course, if you need any help with that, then feel free to reach out to us and we are more than happy to help and assist you with this. But if you haven't heard of this before. I highly suggest that you look up the money pyramid Now. If you want to see a copy of the money pyramid, then just go to my website, markfitzgeraldcom, go to the knowledge center there and you'll be able to have a little look at the money pyramid or download one for yourself. Now, why is this important? Because when you look at the grand scheme of businesses out there, there are different segments, there are different percentages and it's amazing. We've got millions and millions of businesses here in the UK alone that are in a segment on the money pyramid and I want you to have a little look at this for yourself to see where you think you are on the money pyramid Now, if you think about it, think about a triangle, and there's different segments of that.
Speaker 1:The first segment, at the bottom, is a 20% segment. Now, 20% of all businesses out there are broke, ie they are not making money, they are hemorrhaging money. They've got it all wrong, and that is why we always say that in the first three to five years, most small businesses go under. They're broke, they're going to go under, they're finishing, they're closing their doors. Unfortunately, the next segment, which is the biggest segment and this normally applies to 60% of all businesses out there is they are in an endless financial struggle. Ie, they just get by. They're not actually making a decent profit. In fact, probably some months they're not even looking at paying themselves. They're just trying to look after their employees, if they have them, service their customers and get by, maybe getting themselves into a bit of debt, maybe having to go into that overdraft. It's an endless struggle and that is 60% of business owners in the UK alone and that is a sorry and sad place to be. Now, if that is a position that you're in at the moment, good news for you Through this podcast, we can help you to recognise this and to get out of this. But it's going to take hard work, it's going to take dedication to move you up the pyramid.
Speaker 1:Now the next segment is a 15% segment and this is where business owners are making a good living. A lot of people actually just want to get by and make a good living, know that they have money in the bank each and every month so that they can make payroll, so that they can honour their suppliers, they can pay things off, and that's a good living. Then the 4%. As we go down in the percentages here are very prosperous. These are businesses that have got multiple growth, multiple exit strategies, that are churning out products, that are churning out revenue, churning out cash, churning out everything each and every month and are only going in one direction and that's up. And then 1% yes, just 1% at the peak of the pyramid are the rich. These are the boys and girls that are absolutely making a fortune. They've got everything that they want in place. Now, that's not necessarily to mean that they don't have issues and problems, but they are rich. They are pumping out as much money as they want each and every month.
Speaker 1:I want you to have a little think about these different groups. Are you broke? Are you just struggling? Are you not even taking a wage from the business because it's just not generating enough? Now, if this is a new business that you've only just started, chances are you will be working your way up through this pyramid. But if you've been in business a while and you're flat broke, you're having to get loans to just survive, then you're going to need to look at this. You're going to need to change the way that you're doing things and you're going to need to look at this. You're going to need to change the way that you're doing things and you're going to need to do it very, very quickly.
Speaker 1:I'm afraid If you're a part of the 60%, which is the endless struggle, endless financial struggle to get where you want to be getting, then chances are, as long as you're not sat at the bottom of that 60%, just above broke, then getting to a good living the 15% isn't going to be as hard for you to get there and, of course, you'll be able to do it a bit quicker as well If you're making a good living, but maybe it's just not quite enough to give you that lifestyle that you want. Then moving yourself up into a prosperous segment isn't that hard either. Obviously, the higher you go in the pyramid, the easier things do become, because a lot of your fundamentals and your foundations are already in place and are already serving you. And, of course, if you are prosperous and you're looking to get yourself up to rich, that could be acquiring other businesses to bring under your umbrella and so on, or just changing some products and things. So have a little think about this which group? Where do you think you sit at the moment?
Speaker 1:When I first started my businesses, it was an endless financial struggle and that's where you'll be. There's no harm in that. There's no harm in admitting things like that. You've got to be honest with yourself when it comes to these things. But, of course, soon enough, with the right blueprints, with the right methodologies, doing the right things consistently and persistently in your business will get you into a good living state. And, let's face it, we all want to be there, don't we? We all want to be in the right positions. You see, most entrepreneurs don't own a business. They own a job.
Speaker 1:I don't think any of us ever got into this to become a slave to the business, walking around dragging that ball of chain behind us. You don't want to have started your business out of passion for a freedom and for a hunger to really live life on your terms, only to find that you're being dragged backwards and you're actually miserable. But somewhere along the line, you see, this can all get muddled up. Somewhere along this journey, we can lose our way, and there's nothing wrong with that. We've just got to make sure that we're recognising this and change a few things.
Speaker 1:If you're the type of person that begins the day checking your emails as soon as your eyes open on your own mobile devices, getting bogged down with the tactical hell of dealing with time sucking problems, busy with activities that drain the life out of you and don't move your business forward. Things will need to change drastically and quickly, because you wanna be that entrepreneur who owns a thriving, successful business, a business that constantly generates hordes of new leads, clients and revenue each and every week, like clockwork. You want to make it so that it's an automated system and have a team potentially in place to run the daily operations and the grunt work of the business. You want to be looking at commanding higher prices, making more profit and, of course, growing at lightning speed. What's the difference between a chef who starts a catering business and 20 years later realizes they basically created a job, not a business, and another who starts a catering business and in 10 years, has 16 locations and then sells it for a multi-million pound payout? The difference, my friends, is not the food. It's in the marketing and the selling of the food, and that's the same across all industries.
Speaker 1:The single most important rule in any business is this as the owner, your number one responsibility is to get and keep customers or clients. Your entire existence as an entrepreneur lives and dies by how effective your sales and marketing is at producing new revenue or revenue streams. If you have the right marketing and sales machine that predictably brings in new customers every day like clockwork, owning a business can be a phenomenal place, can move you up that pyramid. If you don't, owning a business can be unpredictable, unreliable and, trust me, highly stressful, and we don't want that for you. We want to put you in the greatest position that we can, and this is because the destiny of your business, your income, your family's income and the income of your employees and their families rests in whatever fate drops in your lap.
Speaker 1:Rather than being the master of your own destiny, you can choose to ignore the fact, turn a blind eye and tell yourself that everything will work out fine. And if you've been doing that year after year, how is that doing for you? Because a lot of business owners can say I've been in business six, seven, eight years, but a lot of them have only been in business one year, repeating the same thing time and time again, the same thing time and time again, hoping amongst hope that things will change, that things will shift in their favor. Either way, you must understand that all the latest shiny marketing tactics, hacks and tools being peddled won't solve the number one problem most business owners face right now, and that is how do I get more customers? More tactics are not necessarily the answer.
Speaker 1:You would likely already know this deep down inside as well. We all think shall I be running Facebook ads? Shall I be running Google ads? Should I be doing more on LinkedIn? We're getting out there, we're paying cost per clicks and everything, but we're just not seeing the results that we want. That's because you need to be laser focused with your marketing and you also need to understand how much you can actually pay to acquire a new customer. Because if you're like most business owners out there, you've come through countless CRM software programs, landing page builders and all the latest sale funnel hacks only to find little success or even no success. And the reason for this is because these are all designed to treat the symptoms to low sales, but not cure the systematic cause of the problem. You need something different. You need to implement a system that brings you business and leads inquiries and buyers that you need, and that is where we are going to get you as well.
Speaker 1:If you're now thinking, well, actually we could be onto something here, then you're in exactly the right place and, as I say, the Property Growth Blueprint podcast is going to be here to help you become the professional business person. We cannot wing it anymore. We cannot just go out there and hope for the best, lick our finger and see which way the wind's blowing. Is it going to blow in our favour? We have got to be the captain of our own destiny. We have got to take the bull by the horns and we have got to be the ones that make this happen.
Speaker 1:Look at your business right now. If you already have it set up and it's already functioning, take a step back and think about your business as if you were an investor going in to buy it. If you were going to buy your business right now, would you have to change anything? Would you be a little bit sceptical that it's actually going to deliver what it promises, or would you go in there and say, yes, everything looks great, this is a great purchase. You've got to put an investor hat on. You've got to step back from it. You've got to think about the hat on. You've got to step back from it. You've got to think about the things that you would change if you were taking over your business now, okay, what would have to happen to start getting the results that you want? Get yourself out of the day to day If you can. There will be at some point you'll be able to get at least 60 to 90 minutes away from your business. Turn off your phone, turn off your emails, turn off all notifications.
Speaker 1:Sit there and look at your business through an investor's eyes and say to yourself what do I need to start to implement or what do I need to change to actually get the business where I want it to go? Okay, it's going to need organisation. It's going to need an organised effort, and most people do what's urgent today and their business easily loses its way. Super successful, professional entrepreneurs are consistent where others are inconsistent. It's important to develop your systems for your organisation so that everybody is moving in the right direction. Everybody's moving in the same direction and I really hope that we can help you implement this and put it into place in your business. So, if you like, it's just a case of flipping the switch to start getting new leads, to start getting new customers.
Speaker 1:Now, if you are a small business, chances are you could get to a point where you cannot handle all of the leads that are coming through, but wouldn't that be an amazing place to be. So stick with us here. Follow what we're saying Obviously, make sure that you take action and that you're willing to implement things. But come at all of this with a clear and open mind, ready to learn something new potentially. And even if you've heard it before, don't just discount it. Just say to yourself I've heard this before, I'll listen to it again, and if you've heard it and you're not implementing it, then you don't really understand it, do you? You've got to start implementing things.
Speaker 1:So my task for you at the end of this episode now is to sit down, think about where you are on the pyramid scale at the moment. Are you with the 20% that are broke? Are you really struggling? Are you actually paying yourself out of the business? Or are you part of the 60%? Endless financial struggles. We're going into the overdraft, but we get it back, and we pay it back, but now we're having to get a loan just to help cover us. We're always fighting. We're never sure whether we're going to make payroll or not or be able to actually deliver in what we say.
Speaker 1:Are you the 15%? Are you earning a good living. Things are quite good. Why do I hate to give myself more hassle, more stress? Potentially, you don't, but a lot of us want to make sure that we stay in that 15%. If you're prosperous and you're thinking of growing this and taking it to the next level brilliant how are you going to then take it to the next level? How are you going to make sure that you're rich and wealthy if that's what you so choose to do? But have a look at it from an outsider's perspective. Tell yourself honestly where you are on that pyramid. Go and download it for yourself, stick it somewhere and put your targets on there. Currently, I'm broke. I need to get myself. I'd love to be in that endless financial struggle. I'm not even there. You know. These are the first steps that we want to be taking before we can do anything else and get ourselves up there to making a good living.
Speaker 1:My task here is to help you all, if nothing else, get into that 15%. I want you all to be able to systematically get new clients, new leads, new business into your business, so that you are earning a good living. That is my mission, and I so choose to take it. Do you choose to take your mission. So go out there, feel free to reach out to me. Let me know where you think your business currently is and also any ideas that we can come up with to help you on your journey as well. We're always open to ideas for podcast episodes and things, but I know exactly what I'm going to be putting together, what I'm going to be putting out there on this podcast to help people get those foundations in place.
