(0:00) The way that you become a very strong person, most people think it's the things that happen (0:05) to you. It's not what happens to you, it's how you react to it. All of a sudden I get a text (0:10) that's like Axel has been in a fight and he's suspended.I just wanted to see you do it. (0:17) You lost a pie fight. Hello everybody and welcome back to another episode of Making a Man.(0:27) Today we don't have a guest but like per usual it's just you and me. It's just you and I Ax today. (0:33) Talk about you're sitting here with no shoes on all cozy and what was your day? You had a busy (0:40) day. It's summer and you are off school and what are you doing now? Well this morning I got up and (0:47) I had a choice to either play nine holes or just take one of the golf lessons and I was like you (0:51) know what I'm kind of in a little slump again so I was like you know I'll take the lesson. (0:57) You took a lesson today? Yeah it was three hours long or no it was two hours long but then I hit (1:03) balls for an hour after. Good.So I'm back in it. I might play some more on the sim later. Good.(1:09) What did you work on in practice? Just contact. It was like it was with the group of kids. (1:16) And then you went to some trampoline park? Oh yeah I went to Big Air and I've only been there (1:22) once before and they have like basketball courts with like trampolines.Yeah. And it's so much fun (1:28) because you can like jump and like do crazy things. And then you came home you like ate and (1:34) then I wanted to do this episode and you were face down like you just were exhausted.Yeah I fell asleep. (1:42) You still have like bed head. You still like look like you're sleepy.Yeah. Yeah you got a good little (1:47) power nap in though. That's good. And then I might just lay outside or something. I don't know. We'll (1:53) see. It's a good day to do that. Yeah. Really warm.So it's so humid though. Yeah it's really humid. (2:01) It's hot. It's hot out. Do you uh it is America's 250th birthday. Today? Or no no 4th of July.(2:11) 4th of July. Yeah. You know it's like 250 years old.Geez. Like that's a long time. That's crazy.(2:17) It's pretty impressive. And like I'm only 14 so that's like. Yeah it's just a little. You've only (2:22) been here a little speck of the time. You see all these videos from the World Cup of all these (2:28) people from other countries how they're like enjoying America. Oh yeah. That's pretty cool (2:33) to see isn't it? Because sometimes we're like man. I feel like a lot of people are gonna move to (2:37) America because of it. I don't know.I like I thought of that when I was watching one of the (2:41) videos. I was like dang like what if like we just have like so many people here. Like what do we do? (2:45) That's already happened.Well yeah. You know. So what do you think is the greatest thing about (2:52) America? What makes America so great that people like it? What do you think? I think (3:01) how I feel like we want to know why we're the number one like ranked (3:05) army power.Yeah. It isn't necessarily like we have a great army. Yeah.Great everything. Great (3:10) military in general. The rednecks.Yeah. The rednecks. What the the the oh the people with (3:17) guns back in the woods. That's why we've never been invaded. Like no no like if the Mexicans (3:22) come up to our border. Yeah.Like the military will come. Or Canada or any country. Yeah any (3:27) country. If like whoever. Whoever tries to invade us. The military will show up like 20 minutes (3:33) later and there's just shotgun shells and beer cans everywhere.Like no like. You think everyone's (3:40) going to come out of their house with guns a blazing. Yeah.Probably if someone tried to (3:44) attack us they're they're going to have a tough time. Yeah. Getting through the whole country (3:48) I would imagine. You know first our military and then our people. Like I think we're the third (3:54) largest armed forces in the world. Just the U.S. citizens from all the weapons they have.(4:00) What do you think is. We also have a great president right now. Yeah. He's he's been. (4:06) We got one more. Great. He's going to be great. One more. J.D. J.D. Vance. You like him. I like (4:12) him. Yeah.Yeah I think. Doesn't he have a movie. He has a movie about him.Yeah he wrote a book (4:18) about his life. Didn't you read it or didn't you watch the movie. I wanted to but then it got out (4:24) of theaters and I was just like I don't know where to watch it.It's probably on Netflix or somewhere (4:28) like that. Maybe yeah we'll see. Do you think anything's bad about America.Oh yeah. Yeah. (4:35) Like well what.No seriously. There's too many things. Too many things. You think there's like (4:45) really bad things. Really. Yeah.Like what. I don't know people thinking that abortion is right. (4:52) That's just like.Hold up. Fetus. Translated. This is the people have the right to like choose here (4:59) like that's. Yeah that's messed up. I think. But to do whatever you want with your own self like (5:04) that's what this America's for. Yeah that's great. But you know I think we should still have (5:09) some boundaries like.Got it. Like I'm sorry but like a fetus is literally translated into Latin (5:17) small child. Okay.So like I don't know. No I think a lot of you know I think half the country (5:24) shares your views and the other doesn't. Yeah. But that's fine. You should have your own views (5:29) on stuff and stay firm in those you know. It's we've been doing this podcast this is like our (5:35) second season I think right now.And you think about a year ago you're 14 now. Do you feel like (5:43) the same young man or kid that you were a year ago. No.What do you think has changed. I just (5:53) don't feel like I'm a kid anymore. I feel like.No you're not. You're a young adult. Yeah. What (5:58) do you think has changed most about you in the last year. Definitely maturity but that's like (6:04) normal. Yeah you've definitely gotten more mature.Height really hasn't changed so that's sad. (6:10) You've grown a little bit. You want to you want to be like what six five.Well six four. That's the (6:16) goal. Yeah. You could shoot up like when you're 16 or I think I did when I was 15. So you got (6:22) some time. You know.Yeah. You got you got plenty of time to shoot up. And if you don't (6:28) there's you could pack a powerful punch in a little package.(6:35) So what else. What do you think has changed. Is there anything that you wish.Like looking back (6:40) on the last year you're like man I miss that. Or you miss being like a little kid sometimes. (6:46) Yeah.Because sissy's want to hang out with me a lot more. But now they're. (6:50) Yeah your sisters don't want to hang with you anymore.Never. Because you're (6:55) because you're the only boy in the family and they think you're one they don't get me (6:59) and two it's like I have you but you're always working or like yeah on trips. So then I have (7:05) smoke and smokes a dog.Yeah it's just you me and the dog basically as the males in the house. Yeah. (7:12) I know it's not easy.I hear you. So there's I want to talk about this because the way that you (7:22) become a unique person a very strong person it's it's most people think it's the things that (7:30) happen to you is what makes you great or bad. It's how you react to them. That's exactly right. It's (7:37) not what happens to you. It's how you react to them. And we talk about that a lot. So I'm done (7:43) being mad about golf. I haven't done that.Yeah. When you first started golf and you used to get (7:48) so mad and I'm like you can only be mad if you're really really good and you're playing bad and (7:54) you're learning it. So you're going to make mistakes on anything. When you're learning (7:58) something you can't really get mad and want to cuss. I know I I'm speaking I'll cuss sometimes (8:07) when I golf because I do. Sometimes.I think it's a little more than sometimes. I do get mad too so (8:11) I need to take my own advice. But I do I do see that you have grown in that regard. You don't get (8:17) as upset when something doesn't go your way in sports. Yeah. And in life in general. But that (8:23) whole thing when certain moments happen to you and then you choose to react in a way. Some things (8:29) have happened since our first season in your life. There's examples of this all around us all the time (8:36) like you you went to school. You got in a fight. You reacted to a situation. You got suspended.(8:45) Right. And we talked about it. And you you had someone was not being the nicest to you and you (8:53) tried to approach it in the right way.And then they did something to you. And I said if you got (8:58) to protect yourself or you can't let this go too far. And all of a sudden I get a text that's like (9:04) Axel has been in a fight and he's suspended. And you just texted back. Yeah. My text back was did (9:12) he win.And because I knew the situation and I knew that this was boiling and you know I wanted (9:19) you to handle it the right way. At first you did for a long time. You just tried to communicate (9:24) verbally and at some point you got to stand up for yourself as well.So so that you reacted to (9:31) the situation initially in a way that was like try to communicate be open what's going on. And (9:37) then when that doesn't happen and you continue to get bullied you got to take action. Right.(9:42) So that kind of reaction will define that those types of situations can define you. And those (9:48) happen every day. There's small ones and there's big ones.Like this year you got a bad grade. (9:55) But leading up to that you started getting it really good. And your reaction to it was remember (10:00) when you sat down and you were like man now I really know how to study and approach this.(10:06) This isn't going to happen to me again. And I felt confident that you were right. One point off.(10:11) I know. It wasn't even math. It was a world studies.Yeah but you love world studies. You'd (10:17) like like. I like history but not like we learned about like landforms and stuff.Oh yeah that's not (10:23) great. You're not learning about like Napoleon. It's the things about us not like the history (10:27) about it.Oh yeah. We learn about like continents and things like China. Those are good things to (10:35) know.Yeah. Like the dynasties of China though. Yeah. It's just. That's world history. Yeah. But (10:42) like that was like the only type of history that we learned the whole year. I wanted to ask you this. (10:49) When I was your age when I was 14 we didn't have everything that you have like the distractions (10:55) like social media. What's it like being 14. I don't even have social media so I couldn't. No you have (11:01) some don't you.I let you use it. I text. Yeah we text. But you get on YouTube and you get on all kinds (11:08) of other stuff and you watch YouTube videos. That's like YouTube is the only thing and maybe (11:12) Twitch. What do you think I should allow you to have full access to.Well I think some like at (11:18) least like Snapchat. Okay. I think that's fair and now we got to convince your mom.(11:23) Like why doesn't she. My plans off and. Why wouldn't she want you to have Snapchat.I don't (11:28) I'm not in tune. Can I tell you something. Sissies.Yeah. Guess how old they were when (11:33) they got Snapchat. Probably your age.Younger. They were 13. Maybe she felt like they were way (11:40) more responsible with it.Like what are you going to watch on there that would be suspicious. (11:47) You don't watch anything on Snapchat. You just. You talk to other people. Yeah. You chat.(11:52) Yeah. But bad things can happen there too. Well yeah. It's not like I'm going to snap anyone (11:58) something weird. All right. All right.I will do. I'll try to convince her to get it. All right.(12:05) She said like later at the end of the summer. If I really lock in and golf. (12:10) You're on lockdown from a bad grade right now.So you got to earn it. (12:15) 79. If it was just one point higher. No you can't get a C. That's average. (12:20) No it was 80. I could have got.You got a 79. I was one point off. You got like all A's.(12:29) I went from a 69 in math to an 82 in two weeks. That's all it is is you got to. You can't wait (12:39) to the last minute and say I'm going to buckle down and get this. You got to be consistent. (12:43) It's like everything. Everything.Yeah. Right. So what else. You want snap. (12:49) Are there any other. TikTok basically is YouTube but better.(12:54) Wait. TikTok is better than YouTube. I think.Probably younger people think that. (13:00) Oh yeah. But I think it's just like like Instagram has a lot of memes.(13:03) Yeah. But like YouTube is like I don't know. You just get random stuff. It's so weird. (13:08) People your age don't use Facebook. Right. No it's like for the older people. (13:14) I think Facebook and X or Twitter or whatever the heck you call it. (13:18) Well X is different. You can get a lot of news off of X. (13:22) Well yeah I think X is more news. Yeah. (13:25) But Facebook is more like how do I open this can of Pringles.I don't know. I'm sorry. (13:32) Facebook is more like staying in touch with your friends and family.(13:35) Oh yeah. I can see that because I saw you open Facebook and it was just like everyone. (13:41) Like or selling like I think there's a whole marketplace where you can (13:44) sell like Facebook marketplace underwear and shit like that.(13:48) Oh I have a good joke for you. Yeah. Got a joke. All right. (13:52) You want to know why Facebook marketplace is the best dating website. (13:56) Why.Because you can filter wedding dresses and you can filter them by size. (14:03) Oh that's brutal. That's brutal.Where'd you hear that at school. (14:12) So what do you think like we talk about we've interviewed a lot of great people (14:19) that have done really good things like have yet when you're done with these sometimes (14:23) you'll think about what type of man you are becoming and that you want to be. (14:27) Like talk to me through that. What type of man do you think you're becoming. (14:31) I don't know. I think trying to be as respectful as I can to like older people.(14:36) Yeah. Like respectful. That's good. What other qualities. (14:41) More mature. Definitely more mature.Yeah. You're definitely like that. (14:46) Just like sharing it with other people.Yeah. That's good. I like that.(14:53) It's like how can I impact like these people. (14:56) Like how you can help other people. Yeah.I like that. (15:02) What do you think a year from now. What do you what do you hope changes in your life (15:10) a year from now.Other than you have Snapchat. I wasn't going to say that. (15:15) You want Snap really bad.I just want to drive it 300. (15:19) You want to drive a Golf. Because right now my average drive is 220.(15:23) Yeah. 220. Yeah.So I just want to get it up to like 260 or something like. (15:30) I think that's possible. High to like higher than 250.(15:34) 250. I've seen you hit almost that far but your average. (15:37) Yeah.My farthest drive is 253. It was on like a really downhill hole. (15:41) Does that count? I got so lucky. It hit the curb path and it rolled down. (15:44) It was like right like imagine this is like the rough and it just rolled like right by the rough (15:50) on the fairway and I was like. And it just kept rolling.(15:52) Yeah. Was it in real life or on a sim? (15:55) It was on the sim. So I don't know if it's accurate but.(15:57) Yeah. It's all right. So let's say you want to hit the golf ball farther. What else? What (16:02) other things do you. If we're sitting here a year from now and we look back what are some things you (16:07) want? A good job. (16:10) You want a job.Yeah. (16:11) Yeah. Because I want to start getting money for a car.(16:15) Yeah. That's good. So a job, bombing, drives, anything else? No? (16:23) No.I mean. (16:24) All right. I really just have fun.(16:26) Have fun. That's a good goal. You have fun in a lot of.I watch you. (16:31) I hang out with more friends I think. (16:33) Yeah. You've been doing more of that. A lot more. (16:38) Is there anything that you don't want to change in a year from now? What do you (16:42) want to hold on to and always be like.(16:45) Definitely not my height but. (16:48) Yeah. Maybe my jokes.(16:49) You want to be taller in a year? (16:52) Um. I do not want to change. It's probably my happiness.I think I'm pretty happy right now. (17:02) I do too. I agree.I like that you're always pretty upbeat and positive. (17:06) My love for sports. (17:08) Yeah.(17:09) Because I don't want that to go away. I don't think it will. (17:11) Yeah.I don't think so either. Here's what I want. The most thing I want to change about you is your (17:17) hair.Is that whole llama thing on the front. I think you need to. If I had hair I'd be the (17:27) classic.Part it down the side and be the classic man look. Just super classic. You don't think (17:35) that would work? Alright.I'm telling you. You don't need to do what everyone else is doing. (17:41) I know.I'm not. Other kids have it like whoop. I just stick my nose.(17:49) It goes whoop. (17:50) It's like all around. No offense but I don't like that.(17:54) I just wish I had hair. I wish I had just some. I guess I could grow it on the side and flip it over (18:01) and just let it part it over the side.(18:05) If I saw you with hair I would not. (18:08) I could go to Turkey. (18:09) We need to get an AI picture of you with hair.(18:15) In Turkey if you have a bad hairline or something they get hairs that (18:20) pluck them out and then they implant it back in. (18:22) I heard that they take it from back here and implant it up here. (18:28) I think it's pretty painful.(18:31) Oh I bet. Plucking hairs out and poking them back in. (18:36) That wouldn't be good.(18:39) I want to do something here. (18:41) Maybe there's a better way to do it. (18:44) Maybe.Just a wig. Like a toupee. (18:49) I saw a guy that had a snap on his head and they had a button implanted up here in his skin and (18:58) you could just snap the toupee on so that it doesn't blow off.I think that's a real thing. (19:05) Is there other topics you want to talk about today in our session together? (19:09) No. I mean probably like football.I joined the football team. (19:13) Yeah that's true. (19:14) Or not team but conditioning.(19:15) You're going out. (19:18) So our whole like since Axel was little I didn't really want him to play football because (19:24) I had way too many concussions. (19:26) I started late.(19:28) So he got a little bit of a late start. Now he really wants to try it. (19:31) And so he's went to I don't know just their conditioning. No pads yet. (19:37) Pads are starting next week and it's Thursday right now. (19:40) Yeah so you're gonna have to hit them.(19:45) Yeah I'm excited for that. (19:48) There's a lot of big dudes out there. (19:51) Crews.Imagine that. (19:52) There's some big guys. (19:54) So you're gonna have to.We interviewed Garrett. (19:58) I just don't want the Manov situation. (20:00) Garrett last week or this week and he plays for the Chicago Bears. He's an offensive lineman. (20:07) And he said you got to be the hammer not the nail. (20:12) Yeah.(20:12) So even if it's a big guy you got to hit them hard (20:15) because it hurts a lot less once you're delivering it instead of receiving it. (20:21) But I walked to pick you up one time at these workouts that you're going to (20:26) and you guys were bear crawling all over the field and running. (20:31) I suck at bear crawling.I mean I was like falling. (20:34) I heard the coaches like Axel bear crawl. (20:39) Bear crawling is horrible.(20:42) It's horrible. I think that's worse than up downs. (20:44) That's a personal opinion.(20:46) Can get bad as well. (20:47) Yeah. (20:48) Do you guys do these drills where there's three guys that stand beside each other (20:51) and one guy jumps and rolls and the other guy jumps over him (20:55) and you just keep jumping and rolling over each other and getting up and you have to do that.(20:59) We used to have to do those drills. (21:02) I wonder if they'll make you do the Oklahoma drill. (21:04) Do you know what the Oklahoma drill is? (21:06) I want to do that so bad.(21:07) Where you lay on your back. (21:09) I did it with Dominic at the beach once. (21:11) With him just on the beach with no fit.(21:14) We found a football floating and like no one had it. (21:16) And we were like one of the only ones at the beach. (21:18) So we just like Oklahoma drills right now.(21:21) It's like okay because he played football. (21:24) What about have you ever heard of man in the middle? (21:28) The whole team circles around one guy and the guy stands in the middle (21:33) and the coach just you'll have numbers on your practice jersey (21:36) and if he calls your number you have to sprint out there and hit the guy as hard as you can (21:40) and then go back and he just keeps rattling off numbers. (21:44) So people just keep coming at you.(21:45) And there's just like a dude in the middle. (21:47) One guy in the middle takes all the punishment and then. (21:51) They should put the QB in the middle.(21:52) Everyone has to do it. (21:54) You know everyone has a turn. (21:55) You have to do it.(21:56) Yeah so it's fun. (21:58) It's fun just getting hit. (22:01) He could call a number behind you like it's a circle.(22:05) It teaches you to like keep your head open and look all around. (22:09) Is there like a special technique to like get them like. (22:13) Yeah the low man usually wins.(22:15) You can keep your pads lower than him. (22:17) Yeah but like you're running and you're stationary in the middle. (22:20) Yeah they're running at you and it teaches you how to absorb a hit.(22:24) You got to get low and get your base right and be mean. (22:29) I saw the craziest video like earlier. (22:33) It was like this running back.(22:36) He was like U10 probably. (22:39) Running back gets the handoff and he runs. (22:43) He's right by the end zone and I feel so bad but there's a little safety.(22:49) He was such a tiny guy. (22:52) Just decked him. (22:54) He like straight to the ground.(22:55) The big guy flat and the little guy. (22:58) Yeah. (22:58) It's crazy.(23:00) He hit him so hard and then like the coach had to walk over his. (23:04) Isn't that the position you want to try to play? (23:06) Yeah. (23:06) Safety and you can kind of hit people and still get interceptions and blitz.(23:12) But that safety was way up. (23:14) Yeah sometimes you come up to the line and you could go blitz and try to get a sack. (23:20) That'd be fun.(23:21) Safety blitz. (23:23) I've seen those on Madden. (23:26) On Madden.(23:27) You know all about football from playing Madden. (23:30) Basically. (23:32) Good luck to you.(23:33) I'm excited to see how you react to all these pads on. (23:36) Practice will get twice as hard because you're in a helmet and pads. (23:41) I don't think it's conditioning though with the pads.(23:46) I hope not at least. (23:46) I think every practice you got conditioning with pads on. (23:51) You got to train your body to play tired.(23:55) Are the pads heavy? (23:57) I think when I played back in the Stone Age they were a lot heavier and not as safe. (24:03) The football helmets were brutal. (24:05) I think when I was your age.(24:06) Well I was in junior high and I tackled a guy and my face mask broke. (24:12) We just had little bars. (24:14) Like a couple bars.(24:15) We had janky helmets and they were like not very safe. (24:20) You know Ray Lewis his helmet. (24:22) His guard.(24:24) That thing looks so cool. (24:26) It's like just a bunch of little squares and it's just like he has the visor on. (24:30) It just looks so cool.(24:32) Well you can look like it doesn't matter what you look like. (24:35) Yeah I know I was just saying. (24:37) You got to be able to hit.(24:39) Ray Lewis can. (24:40) Yeah he could drop you. (24:42) I want to be the next Weapon X. (24:44) Well.(24:45) Hopefully. (24:46) I think you got some ways to go. (24:47) We'll see how you react to hits.(24:49) Yeah. (24:49) I'm excited to hear about it. (24:52) So ending this episode.(24:55) I think this week is going to be your first time ever doing something. (25:00) Because you're starting to get a little mustache or something. (25:03) Up here.(25:04) Not really. (25:05) Peach fuzz. (25:06) You got some fuzz.(25:07) And we're going to have to shave. (25:09) So we're going to have to teach you to shave. (25:11) You haven't really.(25:12) Yeah let's do it. (25:14) So. (25:14) I have like a little peach fuzz razor on.(25:16) I want you. (25:16) Oh we're doing it right now. (25:17) No we're not going to shave.(25:19) But I want you to practice putting this on. (25:22) And I want to see how the first time that you do it. (25:25) So how would you put that.(25:26) How would you apply this. (25:28) And I want to see how you would do it. (25:29) And then I'll tell you how.(25:31) All right. (25:32) Okay. (25:32) Just show me how.(25:33) What would the first. (25:34) Oh wait do I have to put it on like. (25:37) Like do I have to spray it.(25:37) You think you do this. (25:39) No no no no no. (25:40) No like do I have to.(25:41) Yeah I want to see what you look like when it puts it on. (25:44) But you don't do this. (25:46) Put it you do this.(25:47) But first you got to shake it up. (25:49) So you got to shake the can. (25:52) And then you put some in your hand.(25:55) Left or right. (25:56) Like. (25:57) Whatever you feel comfortable with.(25:58) I do left. (26:00) It's whatever. (26:01) Actually wait this feels more.(26:02) Because you're going to get it. (26:03) How much you think you need. (26:05) It's like.(26:06) Barely in man. (26:08) Like that. (26:09) That's probably sufficient.(26:12) All right now what. (26:13) Like this. (26:14) You can I think that's a. (26:16) You can either do that or you.(26:18) You can do this and then that. (26:21) Or you can just take it with one hand. (26:23) And like put it all over your face.(26:25) How are you. (26:26) I want to just do this. (26:26) You want to do the.(26:28) That's probably. (26:29) Now how would you put it on your face. (26:35) You probably need a mirror.(26:36) But just guess. (26:38) Whoa. (26:39) Does it taste good.(26:40) No it tastes really bad. (26:42) You want to get up here. (26:43) But I get the side.(26:44) Pork chops. (26:45) Make sure you have it on your fingers. (26:47) And just.(26:48) You know what I mean. (26:49) Like get it up in here. (26:51) There you go.(26:52) All right. (26:54) Can you see in the camera. (26:57) You got to get your whole face.(27:01) I got it in my. (27:02) I got it on my tongue. (27:04) Did you get it in your forehead too.(27:06) Like. (27:06) No no no. (27:06) But you can't have open spaces.(27:09) I can't see. (27:10) Oh oh I see what you mean. (27:11) Like a like a full.(27:13) You want to make it look like a full. (27:15) Like Santa Claus beard. (27:16) There you go.(27:18) All. (27:19) I probably wouldn't put it on your lips. (27:21) But that's going to taste really bad.(27:24) There. (27:25) And now you'd wash your hands off. (27:28) With us.(27:28) And if you're at the sink. (27:29) I'll get you a towel after this. (27:31) And then we'll teach how you shave it.(27:34) Okay. (27:34) I just wanted to see you do it. (27:38) You lost a pie fight.(27:41) All right everybody. (27:43) Thank you. (27:44) It's good to see you.(27:45) See ya. (27:45) All right bye.
