Poem: Crack of Dawn in Rural Kenya
Before the roads remember sound,
The birds awake the waiting ground.
From branch to branch the chorus grows,
Where golden rays through the canopy flows.
The heron calls across the sky,
Hadada answers passing by.
Drongos drum with lively cheer,
Sunbirds stitch bright music near.
Finches sparkle, doves hum low,
Soft wings brush where breezes blow.
Even the morning's biting swarm
Cannot disturb this waking charm.
Thirty minutes of chilled sunrise grace,
Joy takes root in time and place.
And all who listen, still and drawn,
Are healed beneath a Kenyan dawn.
