Welcome to Fearlessly Female, where two blondes make a right. We are Megan and Brittany, the hosts of Fearlessly Female. This podcast was born out of ambition, drive and a lot of wine. We're two powerhouse comedic women that are having uncensored conversations about topics that affect women. We're airing all the dirty laundry, so grab your favorite drink and give us a listen. Today's podcast is my favorite topic wine. In fact, I just about have more wine in my system than I do blood.
Brittany:I can attest to that. She brought a bottle to the studio. Can you believe she ain't even sharing Warning? Calm your tits. Offense will not be taken here. Grab your favorite wine, burn your bot and let's have a good time all right, so let's start with our favorite wine.
Meghan:Clearly it's red. Mostly I like red blends. I love the paso robles region. Copper thief is great if you're looking to have a big, delicious steak. It partners so well. I like to keep my price point between $10 and $30, just for reference.
Brittany:Ooh, I love a good red blend. My favorite, though, is more the white Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. Let me tell you, I've practiced that so many times. I'm so proud of myself I can order it at a restaurant without sounding like a fool. But I like it dry, like my sense of humor. I'm totally kidding. I just have a thing for cold drinks, and apparently it's not socially acceptable to put ice cubes in red wine. So you know, here we are, but I can't say that I have a favorite white. But I do take the tasting notes very seriously.
Meghan:I would say I'd be absolutely offended if she put ice cubes in her red wine in front of me. So that's not happening.
Brittany:That's probably why she's not sharing it with me right now. But let's talk about white wine for a second.
Meghan:The only white wine I drink is champagne. Make it a brute, make it mom's, and it's even better with waffles.
Brittany:Oh yes, she had me try this rosé from mom's this morning and I'm not a big rosé person, and let me tell you it was fantastic. But, megan, why don't you tell us how you feel about Chardonnay?
Meghan:No one likes licking the inside of a steel barrel Pass. It's not even wine in my book.
Brittany:Not to mention the awful hangover that comes with the excessive sweetness, though we have decided to use it as our password for our business relationship. So if we ever need to talk about something hard because you know our friendship matters more than our business we both say a Chardonnay and we can actually talk about it and we know the frame of mind that we need to be in.
Meghan:Yeah, if you want more information on that, listen to our Serial Entrepreneur podcast. But I would say that's enough about white wine. Let's move on to the next topic.
Brittany:Okay, let's talk about some of our favorite wine tasting experiences, oh my gosh.
Meghan:So I went to Greece and I got a tour of a vineyard Really incredibly cool, just like the grapevines. They were so tall Like I was walking underneath them and the tour was led by the cousin of the owners, so it was just a really family experience. But then at the end we went to this house to have lunch. It happened to be the mother's house of the people who owned the winery and the food, like was from her garden, like she had picked the tomatoes, made us this incredible lunch. Of course we were having wine right. It was just such an incredible experience, oh my gosh, that sounds so nice.
Brittany:I really loved living near Napa and just hopping from one winery to the next, and each winery is just so different and unique. One of our I guess team building exercises we did for our job was a winemaking class, so they bussed us up there and then we got to, you know, choose. They had like an array of samples of red and you get to mix them, and then we all tried them at the end and voted like who made the best one? Clearly, mine didn't win, but you know it should have won, but I visited this place in Miami and it was super weird in a good way, but they had like tropical wines, right, it was just a very unique experience. So they had like guava wine, mango wine. You know all these different types. You know what I really want to do, though.
Meghan:Do tell you know I love unique experiences.
Brittany:I want to go to Italy during their harvest season and do that grape stomping and I think it would just be so much fun to like get in there bare feet in a barrel.
Meghan:Oh my gosh. First it would feel so crazy to have it between your toes, but could you imagine us doing it together, like flashes to Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance are happening. It wouldn't be long before we were like full body rolling in the grapes.
Meghan:Imagine that bottle of wine, cheap and discounted for sure, and maybe a little nasty, but really probably one of the best experiences I had was one Mother's Day. I was able to take both my mom and grandma to this little winery. It was tucked in some mountains and they had just picked strawberries. That morning homemade granola like the best yogurt you could imagine. I mean just the freshest of freshest of everything. I am very sure the chickens laid the eggs that morning for my eggs right.
Meghan:It was incredibly relaxing. And then it was just such a wonderful time to be able to spoil my mom and my grandmother for mothers. Oh, that's super sweet and that sounds was just such a wonderful time to be able to spoil my mom and my grandmother for mothers.
Brittany:Oh, that's super sweet and that sounds really good. I love some, some fresh homemade granola too. I think for me my best memory was my birthday at Napa. Two of my girlfriends kind of planned the whole like trek so we went wine hopping and the wineries we stopped at like one was just like just absolutely like red carpet. I felt like a movie star. So I pulled up and they just like rolled out this little like floor mat and it was just. You know, they catered to us hand and foot. When we left they gave us little bags with these glass water bottles and everything. And then we ended up going to lunch, I think at this other winery, and they had this like little like Italian band come and play. It was just like super embarrassing. I don't like being put in the spotlight, but they were like all surrounding me singing Happy Birthday and everything. It was just. It was a lot of fun.
Brittany:I remember that show because I was one of those friends.
Meghan:And it was fabulous. I think I like when she's talking about that band that was playing and embarrassing her, like I think I got a dress and I probably still have it Like there's like a tiny little sidebar, but anyways, I honestly just think it's so important to take advantage of the opportunities around you. I know everyone cannot travel internationally to Italy, but you'd be surprised about how many hidden wineries or tasting rooms are around you and if you're really striking out, make your own experience. I'm going to add to our social media a couple ideas if you're looking to have a wine experience at home.
Brittany:So did you know that not all people are wine lovers?
Meghan:That seems impossible to me.
Brittany:Right, that's what I said. Okay, so what recommendations do you have for someone who's maybe just starting to dabble?
Meghan:in the wine. So one experience I would share is called Traveling Vineyard. It's a super cool concept, so they come to you. So if you're looking for a unique birthday or bachelorette, this is an incredibly fun idea. But they give you a menu beforehand and you pair different wines with different foods and you actually kind of figure out your palate a little bit and as it corresponds to foods, incredibly fun experience.
Brittany:Oh, I love that. I love that. I think for me my biggest thing was like get a friend or friends that are into wine so they can make suggestions for you, kind of based on what you like and what you don't like. But if your friends aren't that cool, probably doing a tasting flight at a winery, just you know so you can try different wines, see what you like, see what you don't like. Maybe like a red blend is good, because you know it's kind of like grapefruit juice. Or even get a membership. I think you had a couple of memberships too, right.
Meghan:I have had a couple of memberships. I would say I'm not the friend to get you into wine because I don't make suggestions. I tell you what you like. But memberships are a great way to try out a winery and figure out which wines that you really like.
Brittany:I love that. All right, moving away from like the basic red white wines, we're going international. So have you ever heard of grappa? Oh my, gosh.
Meghan:So I've heard of grappa. I haven't't had it, but I have had ozu, which I think is the greece version of grappa, and my goodness, do I have some stories?
Brittany:yes, you're right. So if you don't know what grappa is, or even ozu, it's pretty much like the leftover of the wine, so it's pretty much moonshine, right, let's get real about it. And, holy shit, that will light you up. The first time I drank it was with my dad and he was like all right, you have to try this. So I'm at this restaurant in Sausalito called the Trident and it's like super cool, right, it's all like seventies, eighties, like not themed, but like they had a lot of artists from that time go there, it sits on the water, it's beautiful. We had this great dinner and it's like an after dinner drink, right. And so they pour it in like little, like shot glasses, and you're like okay, cool, whatever, you have one of those and like you are done.
Meghan:Well, in Greece it's called Ozu, but I don't know if it's technically called wine. So we're sneaking it into this podcast because it's like clear liquid. But let me tell you, like some of the restaurants it's like gasoline and then some of it is like so incredibly smooth, so you really never know what you get. Moonshine is absolutely an accurate word, but it's like the dinner mint at every restaurant. Like you get the check, you get some Ozu and then you find out am I going to die?
Meghan:with gasoline, or is it going to be delicious, right, but it was a really fun experience. I love like little dinner mints, I feel like the hair growing on my chest every time I drink it, just for like perspective.
Brittany:Absolutely Booking wax appointment now. So all right. How about we talk about me for a second?
Meghan:Oh Lord, brittany. So imagine walking into like this dungeon. Right, you go down this like set of stairs, which anybody who's ever spent any time with me knows. I will always like go down a set of stairs and I usually like strike gold when I do this. But you walk down this like set of stairs and you're like in this basement and just imagine like all these like potion looking things on the wall, like you remember, like the like like heads in the jars and whatever science experiment, like they're murky looking jars. That's what mead is. Brittany came and visited me once and we went to this meadery and to this day I cannot get the taste out.
Brittany:I think it's just been an ongoing joke, because the whole place it was super cute, right, they had like a little bar up top and the shop and we go downstairs I'm like, oh, this is fun.
Brittany:It was like kind of like a little hidden speakeasy thing and it was all decked out. And I'm like, all right, this is cool, this is great. And so we're ordering and this woman we asked the waitress what's good, you know? And she's like, oh, tried the mead flight and she is hyping this thing up like it is going out of style. Give it to her on her sales ability, so we get it.
Meghan:and like we took a sip and we both just looked at each other like, like I can't even describe like how disgusting it is right, like I love a good vibe, right like down in a basement, brick walls, like very you know how Brittany described it is absolutely perfect, but um, the drink matters.
Brittany:And wow, that will never happen again we tried the full flight, too, on different flavors and did not find anything even remotely palatable there wasn't a single one, all right, so when I was in nom, I love a good nam story. I absolutely love saying that to be clear, this is a trip to vietnam. She went on.
Meghan:She wasn't actually serving in nam, that's correct, but in nam we used to say mo hai bai yo before every sip. Like I can tell you like there's this, like one memory I have we're in this bar and it's my like quasi brother and his dad and the driver and my dad, and like every drink that we took, every sip of the beer, mo high by yo and it was like so much fun. Like imagine doing that like 20 times over an evening. We had an incredible time.
Brittany:Oh my goodness, I love that. I mean, you know, here you just like cheers at once. Oh my gosh, we need to do this together. All right, let's do it together. Okay, ready, mo, high by yo.
Meghan:All right If you yourself have ambition, drive and clearly booze in your system. We would love to have you as a guest or hear your ideas, email fearlesslyfemaleuncensored at gmailcom.
