Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome back to another episode of the let's Get Visible podcast with me, your host, janine Coney. And today I am doing a solo podcast because I wanted to talk to you about something that I just feel, honestly, has been just so, so, bloody brilliant over the past two weeks, and I'm sorry if you've heard so much about this already, sorry, not sorry. And all of that because I want to talk today about the Olympics, and I want to talk about it from the point of view of a female founder because, for me, every day there were lessons, some of them obvious lessons, and you're probably going to think, okay, here we go. I think I know what you're going to say, jenny, but hear me out, because there were so many insights that I got through watching it over the two weeks and I think there were so many lessons that we can all take from it in business, and that is whether they won a medal or they didn't win a medal, and the first one is resilience. Now, resilience is something I think you need in business, in bucket loads and Olympians, they often face setbacks in their, obviously, in their training. They get injuries, they are defeated, but you know what? They continue to push forward, don't they to push forward, don't they? With literal, unwavering determination. You imagine if, every time they didn't win, or they had a setback, or they had an injury, or they couldn't be bothered, one morning they just gave up. The challenges are inevitable for all of us and, like Olympians, staying focused on our goals and bouncing back from the setbacks, that's what's going to lead us to the long-term success. They didn't achieve that overnight. That's taken them four years to get where they've got this time.

Speaker 1:

And if you heard some of them who didn't maybe medal, they still got to run, you know, or you know? Take part, um in uh, an event at the olympics, which is you know, or you know, take part in an event at the Olympics, which is, you know, a feat in itself and an accomplishment. But if they didn't win, yes, they might have momentarily been upset, but other than that, they were. Oh, my goodness, I've taken part. What I've learned from this? I'm coming back. I'm going to be stronger. Give me a day, let me get my head around this. I'm going to be stronger. Give me a day, let me get my head around this. I'm going to be back.

Speaker 1:

And you also heard stories, day by day, of people who went home and were broken and thought I'm not going to do this again, I can't do this again. Adam Peaty was one of them. And then he thought, no, actually I want to do this. And he had a huge why behind it as well because he wanted to show his son I'm sure it's his son, yeah, he wanted to show his son. His son was a daughter anyway. Whatever, he wanted to show his family, he wanted to show his children. What he could do it was, that was his why. That's what got him up every day and got him back in the peak performance to be able to go out there and win another medal. Now he could have stayed in that. I can't be bothered. I've done it. I've done it zone or I'm not as good as I was, so but no, he carried on.

Speaker 1:

So number two is the power of preparation and consistency. You know how I love the word consistency and I've kind of covered this a little bit because you know me, I love going off on a bit of a tangent. Now, olympians they train for years, they have daily practice, they get up super, super early, super early, and it's all to perfect what they are doing, perfect their craft. Let's say so in business, success rarely happens overnight either. So consistent effort, continuous learning and that thorough prep are crucial in all that we do as well. And we have to learn to develop good habits and maintain a steady pace and the discipline and then we can go on to achieve that sustained growth as well and you can reach your goals. And this is so important because if they gave up, they wouldn't then make the team, they wouldn't make it where they want to go. It's their why and I would imagine a lot of their why is when they start out I want to be an Olympian.

Speaker 1:

I was listening to the guy. Oh, my goodness, what sport was it yesterday that he um one of the final um rounds? And he, he, I'm doing well, aren't I with my names today, um. And they interviewed him afterwards and they said could you ever imagine when you were six years old you were going to be at the olympics? And you know what he said yes, yes, I did, because that was my dream, that is what I wanted. That's what I've been working towards now. That's his mindset. At six years old he started with that mindset. It wasn't like 16 or 20, it was from an early age and he stuck at it.

Speaker 1:

And you can see there why these people are in the position they are, why they are doing so well, because their mindset is so strong in what they do, as well as, obviously, their bodies. But they've trained their bodies to be that way. They've trained their minds to be that way. So then, number three is the importance of a strong support system. Did you see that behind every Olympian, there's a team of coaches, trainers and mentors? A team of them. None of them had done that on their own, none of them. None of them had thought, no, I'm not going to invest in anything, I'm not going to do that, I'm going to be fine on my own.

Speaker 1:

I do it all, and it's the same in business building a strong support system of mentors, advisors, coaches that you can help you, people that you can network with, people who can help you grow. They are all going to make the difference. They provide the guidance, the feedback, the direction, encouragement, and they help you navigate those challenges and celebrate successes. So much of what I do is helping my clients over the hurdles, helping them over the mindset hurdles, helping them over the business hurdles that they've got in what they are doing, and that's why having somebody on your side in your team supporting you, cheerleading you, somebody on your side in your team supporting you, cheerleading you, is just so important. But one thing I find in business is that if it's a money investment, it seems to be a a big block for a lot of people because it's like, well, I'm not doing as well here, so I can't invest in that. If you don't invest in that person and that coach in in whatever program it might be, then how are you going to get where you want to go? If these people didn't invest and a lot of these athletes as well, obviously have had funding which has allowed them to invest. Yeah, they've had funding from things like the national lottery and sports aid that have allowed them to progress, they wouldn't be where they are today and they are so thankful for that, and that investment has allowed them to go on and achieve their dreams. So you have to look at it as that, as an investment in yourself.

Speaker 1:

Now number four is embracing the let's use the word competition to fuel your growth Olympians. They thrive on competition. It pushes them to perform at their best, but what I noticed is they thrive on that. In that moment Beforehand, they're in the zone. You see lots of them come out. You saw the swimmers come out with headphones on. They're in the zone listening to probably their power tunes and music. You see athletes, you can see by their faces. They're in the zone. Yeah, they go. That you know.

Speaker 1:

Let's talk about, um, the athletes. When they're running, as soon as the the starters goes, they're off, they're in their zone, they're running, they're in their own space. As soon as they finish, you notice how they congratulate, congratulate each other you hear them talk about. Then when they're back in the village, yeah, we're all friends, we all train together, we go everywhere together. We see each other wherever we go. We support each other really. But when we're out there, we're out there doing our own thing. How great is that? How much can we learn from that? How much can we learn from that that actually other people who do what we do are not competition. They're actually our supporters. But when we're out there and we're in our own lane, of course everybody's trying to win their own clients. Let's not sugarcoat that. Of course we are Everybody's swimming their own lane at that point of view. But it doesn't mean you can't be a decent, nice person with it, and I know we did see some people in there do some not so nice things, you know, like the other day in the velodrome. I mean, you know, whatever happened there, you're always going to come across some people who aren't your cup of tea and then you just have to avoid them. But generally, we are all supporting each other.

Speaker 1:

Now number five is something I've covered probably within every point here as well is the value of your mental strength and focus, because Olympians often credit their success and their mental toughness and the ability to stay focused under pressure on their mental strength and in business, maintaining your mental clarity and focus especially in those down days, stressful situations, mondays, when you don't feel like it that it's just crucial. So developing a strong mindset and practicing mindfulness and staying centered is going to help you make better decisions and it's going to lead your business with confidence. And it's going to help you lead with confidence too. I think working on my mindset has been the biggest game changer ever in my business. I'm going to say that again it has been the biggest game changer in my business, working on my mindset. You can teach somebody all the strategies in the world, but if their mindset isn't in the right place, it's not going anywhere, so your mindset has to be in the right place.

Speaker 1:

So there were so many lessons, I think, that we had to learn from the Olympics, but I think the biggest ones that I took away were the fact of the camaraderie between people, the fact that even when they hurt, they carried on going. The fact that when they didn't win a gold, 90% of them were still super happy just to have got a medal I mean, what an achievement in itself. And they were also really happy just to have taken part. The fact that then they were automatically thinking about four years later, how many times, if something goes wrong, do you think to yourself? Well, I tell you what, in four years time, we'll be all right. Imagine if we did. Imagine if we did. There's so much to learn from them, from the spirit of the games, from the unity of it.

Speaker 1:

So, yes, I might be talking about something that you feel like you've heard a lot of lately, but I just had to come on and talk about this because every day when I have switched on the TV or I've read some news, something has come in my mind again, and so, oh my God, that relates so much to business. It's unbelievable, and I feel sad that the Olympics is over, but we've only got when I'm recording this, a few more weeks until we get the Paralympics, and that again is just-blowingly awesome to watch and I cannot wait to tune in. But I also cannot wait to tune in and see how you develop your business, how you keep cultivating a winning mindset as well, how you build your business, because it's so so important how you do that and it's so, so important that you have a team around you that can support you and cheerlead you in all that you do as well, and that's what I do with my clients every single day. Now, if you are ready to elevate, to step into that next level version of yourself, if you feel like, literally, you've been treading water, you're trying to get your business seen, heard and remembered, you're trying to get your name out there, you're doing all the right things, but you still feel like people aren't really noticing what you're doing. You know you were meant for more. You know you have the skills. You know you have the expertise, but it's just not getting out there as you want it to, then you need to develop that. You need to work on different areas within your business. You need to build your personal brand. You need to build your business. You need to build your marketing plan. You need to get consistent. You need to get that winning mindset and that standout energy in place as well.

Speaker 1:
