Rethinking Our History
In this new weekly show from the host of The Paranormal Lovers we take a look at some of histories less well known events. Why are they less well known? Because " History is written by the victors."
So we are here to look at the other side of the story, and to give people a starting point to learn about the true history of this country.
Rethinking Our History
Episode 23: The Murder of Ruthie Mae McCoy
In 1992 the cult classic movie Candyman made it's way to movie theaters, and more than a few people recognized the story line to be much more than just a nightmare. For folks living in the ABLA homes, the thought of someone breaking in through their bathroom cabinets was not an irrational fear, but one they lived with daily.
In comes 52 year old Ruthie Mae who had been a resident of Abbott homes for four years. Having lived a long hard life Ruthies was on the path to freedom and safety, but her journey was cut short when two young men broke in through her medicine cabinet and murdered her.
And so a legend was born that has haunted generations for over three decades. And for those who still live in these buildings, it's more than a legend, it is their day to day life.
