BEN MANKIEWICZ: For The Love Of Family And Film
Many of us grow up in homes with high expectations, but perhaps not the burden of expectation that Ben Mankiewicz experienced. His grandfather and great uncle were prominent in Hollywood, his father in the world of politics. Ben long ago dreamed of being a baseball broadcaster. Along the way, he worked in sports media, hosted an eclectic news broadcast in Miami and eventually moved to California where he went on scores of auditions and batted .000. But much like in his beloved baseball, it only takes one. At the audition for Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in 2003, Mankiewicz hit it out of the park. More than 20 years later, generations of classic movie fans are glad he did.
