Magic for Wealth & Abundance

Stan Mallow

Dee Norman, High Priestess of Black Candle Coven and a practicing witch, talks about her book “The Golden Grimoire: The Magical Way to Wealth and Abundance” in her interview on “Paranormal Yakker”. Dee invites us into the practical world of financial magic with wisdom that transcends typical money manifestation advice. She shares how magical practices aren't mysterious rituals but practical tools woven into everyday life.

The conversation reveals why money spells often fail: our deep-seated "wealth wounds" sabotage our magical efforts before they begin. Norman explains, "When you're working magic, you have to be whole-minded and wholehearted... if you have any lingering doubts inside you, they can really trip you up." Her insightful breakdown of money spells (for immediate needs), prosperity spells (for improving your situation), and wealth spells (for maintaining abundance) offers a strategic framework for approaching financial magic based on your current circumstances.

Norman dismantles the harmful belief that wealth is finite – that gaining abundance means someone else must lose. "When you do a spell for enlightenment, are you afraid the people around you are going to get less enlightened?" she asks, encouraging practitioners to include blessings for others in their wealth work. Her practical advice on creating wealth altars, working with ancestral allies (particularly financially successful relatives), and combining magical practice with mundane action creates a holistic approach to abundance.

Whether you're struggling financially or looking to enhance existing wealth, Norman's approach helps identify and heal the emotional barriers blocking your path to abundance. Start small, build on successes, and remember her grandmother's wisdom: "It's much easier to walk around a hole than climb out of it." Ready to transform your relationship with money? If you are, be sure to watch this episode of “Paranormal Yakker”.

Hi everyone, I'm Stan Mallow, welcome to Paranormal Yakker. My guest today is Dee Norman I'll be talking with Dee about her book. The Golden Grimoire The Magical Way to Wealth And Abundance, Dee Norman, welcome to Paranormal Yakker. Hello, thank you so much for having me. You Dee are a practicing witch rooted in your family's Italian American magical tradition, received your first tarot deck at age 11, are a high priestess of Black Candle Coven& a lifelong student of esoteric art, practical magic,& grimoires. For those who may not be familiar with it, what is a grimoire? Well, there's a general definition for grimoire,& then there's a more specific definition for grimoire. So in general, a grimoire can just be considered a book that talks about magic. But then in the esoteric world, more specifically, we often consider a grimoire a book that is about the type of magic that involves summoning& invoking different spiritual entities& I'll say right up front, I use the word grimoire in a much more general term so that it just is a book that talks about different styles& types of magic. I'd be curious to know, Dee, what it was like for you as a child growing up in a home steeped in magical tradition, what type of magic were you exposed to, what was your reaction to it,& in what ways is the Italian American magical tradition you grew up in different from other types of magical traditions? Well, of course, when you grow up with a practice in a tradition, often you don't know that you're growing up in that tradition or with those practices. It's just how life is.& I tell people. fish don't see the water that they swim in.& so when it comes to these family-based, kind of really traditional, practical types of magic it was not called magic. It did not have a name. It was just this things I learned from my mother& grandmother. I learned right along with learning how to do laundry& how to cook food& how to do other things to take care of the household. So it's very practical, very based in the family& the household& how to take care of your surroundings& the people that you care about& the funny thing for me is that growing up with all of these things, I also happened to grow up in a house that was very haunted& it really freaked me out.& so I would go to the library& I would buy, that's how I got into looking at books on esoteric topics really was going to the library.& at around 11, I found a book that mentioned tarot cards& I was fascinated with the concept. So I went to my mother& I said, I want these.& pointed at the tarot cards.& she looked at my grandmother& my grandmother said, oh, we can do that.& I got my first deck of tarot cards from my mother& grandmother.& that was really my gateway to the wider magical world. But it was also the thing that started to drive home to me that a lot of the practices that my family did lined up with what other people called magic, but which to me was just life Thank you for sharing that. In the times we're living in now, I'm sure just about everybody would love to improve their financial situation. You've successful successfully used magic& spiritual practices to do that,& to also make significant changes which allowed you to live the life you wanted. Could you Dee elaborate on that? Part of the reason why this is my second book. My first book was all about my family's practices because I felt very passionate about that.& then when it came time to write the second book, I'm like, what other topic can I be just dispassionate about?& as I talk about in the introduction to The Golden Grimoire, my mom& dad worried about 2 things in life, the health of their children& making ends meet. Those were their 2 major concerns.& I thought, everybody has a time period where they're concerned about money& finance.& I have gone through times in my life where I was scraping together pennies& I have gone through times in my life where I've been very, very flush with cash. So it got me thinking about the practices my family did, but also the practices in the wider esoteric community that can be used to help draw wealth& prosperity to you. The idea that it would be great to get people to start thinking about what they consider wealth because everybody has a different definition of it.& a lot of magical practitioners, at least in my experience, go, oh my goodness, I could never do magic for financial gain because that's just too risky.& it's like, well, how do you define financial gain? How do you define wealth? What are you really looking for?& why don't you think you deserve a life where you're not constantly struggling to make ends meet?& so those are subjects that I'm super passionate about because like I said, I've been all over that spectrum to where I've struggled& to where things have been kind of easy financially for me.& I have used money magic, financial magic, every step of the way for peace of mind& also in order to improve my situation. When it comes to money spells you just alluded to it, many people say they are more difficult to work with than other types of magic. Why is that? Oh, my gosh. That is one of my favorite topics. So I think that. There's a couple different reasons.& one is that we, as a society are very hung up on the idea of wealth& we are told very many conflicting messages about wealth as we grow up& as we're raised& as we become adults, you know, we're told money makes the world go round. He who pays the piper calls the tune, all these things about money, but then we are also told it's the root of all evil& we have all these concepts about how greed is a terrible thing& how it can corrupt people.& so we have a very ambivalent take on money itself.& then on top of that, we have difficulties, I think.& I say this because I certainly do& have throughout my life, accepting our own worth& understanding that we deserve not to struggle sometimes.& I call these kind of negative messages that we receive in the book. I call them wealth wounds that we internalize all of these messages about how maybe we're not worthy or we don't deserve success.& when you are working magic, you have to be whole-minded& wholehearted& dedicate yourself to the outcome& if you have any of those lingering doubts inside you, they can really trip you up& make a magic difficult to work.& so the book dedicates, there's a big portion of the book that talks about identifying those wounds, healing those wounds,& also talks about how it's an ongoing process throughout your life because it's not like you heal them once& you're done& everything's great. We continue to receive those types of messages& we have to continue to work to improve our perception of ourselves& also to fully understand what we think about money or wealth. If someone undertakes the building of a wealth altar in their home, are there any rules or instructions they need to know, such as what items should be put in it, where it should be placed,& should the altar be built in a particular room in the house,& perhaps face a specific direction? I always like things to be very, very practical.& not everybody has a ton of surface area for alter space.& so I encourage people to be very flexible with where they put their altars. Now, there's some places where altars just aren't a great place to go. Like, you don't want to put keep your wealth altar in your bathroom, for example. But I would say any clear space that you can set aside& make feel special for you is an excellent space. The spaces I recommend are if you have a home office where you earn money, put your wealth altar there in the place where you earn money. If you want the altar to be for all the money earners in your household, put it in a central location, like in a kitchen or in a corner of a living room where everybody can kind of participate& benefit from the altar. But some people build their outdoors in their backyard or it might be something as simple as a basil plant that attracts wealth growing on the front porch in a little quiet corner There's a wide variation of the complexity& the styles of altars that are out there. So the most important thing is to work with a magical symbolism that appeals to you specifically. An example I often give is if cinnamon is a bad association for you. If you had a terrible job, say,& you ate a cinnamon donut every day on the way to work for that job for years to maybe to cheer yourself up, but now you associate cinnamon with all of those heavy kind of disruptive feelings of that job. Cinnamon's also a great spice for wealth magic, but don't put it on your wealth altar if it has really bad associations for you. Choose an herb or a spice or a stone that makes you feel good because you don't want to have to get over that that extra obstacle in order to get the benefit of the magical significance of the item. So I tell people to do things that appeal to them, whether it's aesthetically, or whether it's intellectually, find items to gather together into your wealth altar that make you feel good& kind of make you feel luxurious& well cared for.& that kind of gets the vibe going with the altar & kind of helps build the influence that you want to welcome into your life. You Dee recommend people work with spiritual allies, non physical entities while conducting their magic. Who do you suggest they call them first? Who would serve them best in their desire for welfare abundance, would it be the ancestors, spirit guides, guardian angels, saints, or god& goddesses? Well, I would say that if you already have a relationship with one of those entities, if you already work with your ancestors or if you already have a spirit guide, that would be the place to start because you have already built a long-term relationship with that entity. If you work with a particular god or goddess, I work with Fortuna back here, which is this little picture that I'm pointing at& so I work with Fortuna because I've been working with her a long time& I feel as though she& I have built a relationship with each other. I work with my ancestors a lot. So I work with my ancestors. So if you have built a relationship with a spiritual entity already, start work with that entity. Now if it doesn't feel right, you do have a guide or you do have a relationship. You can get input from your current relationships& say, well, who do I turn to next?& I think that ancestors, if you are comfortable with working with your ancestors are always a great place to start because in most cases, the ancestors are going to be on your side. They want to see you do well. They're part of your family. They want to see the family in general do well.& I also do a lot of ancestral work, particularly, I speak with my grandfather a lot because he was someone who was financially successful in life. So when I am worried about my finances, I still go to my grandpa even though he's passed on. But it really, again, just like the magical tools& correspondences you choose& herbs & stones that you work with, you've got to work with who you're comfortable with& who you have a healthy relationship with on the spiritual plane. What Dee is the difference between money spells, prosperity spells, & wealth spells? These are categories as I define them,& other people may define them differently. But to me, a money spell is a spell to help you get a certain amount of cash right away or as soon as possible. So you might work a money spell because you really need to make rent this month. Or you might work a money spell because you want to save up enough money or get enough money to go on a vacation that you've been dreaming about. That's what the roles that money spells perform. A prosperity spell is one that helps you improve your current financial situation. So if you have a job, but you want a better job or if you have a job& you want a promotion or a raise, a prosperity spell is the type of spell that you need in order to increase your chances of being more prosperous& having more opportunities& then a wealth spell is a spell that you use in order to maintain support,& enhance the wealth that you already have.& one of the problems, I think,& why people struggle with wealth magic so much is that they'll do a spell while they are struggling to make ends meet.& they'll choose a wealth spell& the wealth spell is assuming that you already have a pretty stable foundation to work with.& so you can maybe work with the Jupitarian influences to expand what you have. But if you don't have what you need& you expand what you have you run the risk of expanding that lack instead of getting abundance.& so you have to choose kind of carefully when you're deciding to first start out& take a good look at where you are financially& then decide, hey, yeah, I'm in a pretty decent situation. I just really need to make more money a month. I'm going to work a prosperity spell. Or oh my goodness, I'm struggling to make ends meet. I'm just going to do some money spells to get the cash flowing& then move on to the next step of enhancing my financial situation. Since it is important in the quest for wealth that people align themselves between their spiritual& financial goals, how Dee is that accomplished? With long thought& reflection& meditation& perhaps journaling, you really have to, I tell my daughter's 14.& she's like, ooh, wow, Mom, magic.& I'm, yeah, like, yes, daughter, wow, magic, magic is amazing. However, magic takes a lot of effort& a lot of energy & a lot of focus. So if you choose wisely when you use it, & for example, I could sit here for weeks& meditate & work magic& try to get my office door to open& eventually, magically with no connection to anything in the physical reality, it may open,& that would be startling, but it' be a lot easier for me to stand up& walk across the room& just open the door. It would happen a lot quick, more quickly,& take a lot less effort. So when you work magic, you should select things that as you said, completely align with your desires. But in order to know what those desires are, you've got to really examine yourself.& then when you work magic to attain those desires, then you have to also do things in the physical world so that your physical actions support your spiritual actions & vice versa. It is a combination of both spiritual& material effort in order to accomplish things, particularly when it comes to finances& wealth & abundance. For what purposes would someone use reactive magic,& for what purposes would they use proactive magic? So reactive magic is what I call, in a lot of cases, my emergency spell kit. It is the spells that you use when you find yourself in a situation where you're kind of in dire need& you need to fix a problem.& then proactive magic is the magic that you use in order to kind of chart your future& maybe anticipate some of those issues& avoid some of those issues so that you never fall into them. My grandmother always says it's much easier to walk around a hole than climb out of it.& so proactive magic is all about kind of being very aware of where you are& what you're doing in your life, where you want to get,& then plotting a course, using magic to help you obtain your goals to get you there& prevent disruptive things from happening. One thing that happens a lot to people that I talk to who work well wealth magic is that they start seeing great success with their wealth magic& then their car breaks down& their washer dies.& maybe something happens to the roof of their house& the money that they manage to get it goes away.& so a lot of times when you start out doing wealth magic, you will start by protecting your health& the health of the other earners in your household& the other items in your home that you need to rely on, especially the items that you need to make a living. For example, I use my computer because I am a writer. If I'm trying to improve my wealth, the last thing I need is to go out& shopping for a new laptop. So I want to protect that item as a moneymaking tool. You can proactively kind of anticipate things that could go wrong& then use magic to help prevent those things from happening. What Dee are technical missteps& how does one avoid them? I would say that there are. One is we've already discussed, which is when you first start out not choosing the right type of magic. So if you money magic versus prosperity magic versus wealth magic.& the main difficulty that causes to me is that if you set out& you go, by goodness, I am going to just throw myself into this& I am going to do a magical spell or ritual so that I win the lottery.& I hear that from a lot of people when they hear what I write about. They say, can you tell me how to win the lottery?& they say, yeah, but it's probably a lot easier to do some different spell. But you set out with a grand goal without building any foundation. Of course, that magic doesn't eventuate. It doesn't turn out the way you would like it to.& then you go see, I've proven myself right I can't work money magic. Money magic just doesn't work for me.& the thing is, is to start small& build on your successes& build your confidence,& that kind of gets your momentum. It gets the ball rolling& then helps you to accomplish a lot more. So that's one mistake, is prove yourself right in like the absolute worst possible way& then the other is considering, it's very weird to say, don't think of wealth as a finite resource, but that's what I've been telling people to do is we have this picture of wealth that it's limited& that if we gain wealth, other people must necessarily lose wealth around us it's a win or lose proposition& not everybody can win.& you'll hear that a lot from magical users who go, well, I couldn't possibly do a money spell because I'm afraid that my uncle would die& I would inherit my money.& that's how I would make my money.& I say to them, I say, when you do a spell for enlightenment are you afraid the people around you are going to get less enlightened? Are you afraid they're going to suffer in some way? We are very much locked into & trained into thinking that financial success for us necessarily means financial failures for other people& so one technical error I think people make is that if you do feel that way& you're afraid that you're going to somehow be taking from the universe at large while doing financial magic, work spells that lift up everybody. If you're going to bless your money so that it comes back to you, also throw in a blessing that it's going to bless every single person that touches that money before it comes back to you so that you're sending wealth blessings out into the world as well as doing work for yourself. If you know people in your workplace are struggling& they don't have a problem with you doing magical spiritual practices for them, include them in your wealth work. If you have family members or people in your household who are struggling, include them, your magically minded friends, add them into your spellwork& kind of share the largesse, share the uplifting that can come from your magical & spiritual work. What is the importance of someone being precise about their goals & intentions? Just like you can't get there without knowing where you are, you can't get there if you don't know what there is. Now, the universe is pretty flexible. I have found& will play pretty nicely with you. But the more clear you can be about what you want to accomplish, the more targeted& specific your magic is.& when I define magic for people, I tell them that it is a conversation with your deep inner self& the universe at large.& if your deep inner self can't be specific about what you want, the universe at large cannot bring it to you.& so if you take it down to a really mundane situation, if I tell my partner oh, you're going to go out& get dinner, just get me whatever. I'm going to get whatever.& I may luck out & he may remember all my favorite things& bring them home or he may not.& that's my fault for not saying, these are the 3 things that I want to eat for dinner& so it's just like that with magic, you're conversing with the universe at large& saying, do this work for me. Bring me this wealth. Be specific about your outcomes. You don't have to be specific about how, but you do have to be specific about what.& you have to be able to see yourself in that situation.& the more clearly you can see yourself in that situation, the more accurate your magical work will be. You Dee believe strongly that emotional& spiritual issues surrounding money are the biggest barriers to a wealthy& satisfied life, resolving these issues, which you call wealth wounds, you mentioned that previously increase a person's chances of magical success. What steps do you suggest one take to remove those barriers? The first thing I will say is that when it comes to wealth wounds, there are big ones,& they are little ones.& so first things first is identify them,& to identify them, you you may be great at self-reflection & you might be able to just figure them out on your own or you may have to talk to a friend.& if that's how you work through things& figure things out, or you may have to, if you go to counseling or therapy& kind of talk about your issues around wealth& how you feel about how you deserve things or if you deserve things So it's a process of self-examination& you use whatever tools work best for you. Then once you identify them, you have to prioritize them.& me, I like to go for the big ones first. I like to find the snarliest, the most difficult ones, because often when you're working on the difficult ones, the other ones resolve themselves as you go.& then once you prioritize, you can use various methods in order to start healing yourself. You can use magical methods like cleansing baths. You can use religious& spiritual methods like prayer& speaking with gods& goddesses& angels& other entities that you work with& ask for healing& cleansing of those issues Physical, therapeutic modalities, like energy work or yoga or Reiki are all things that could also be used.& again, the best method is going to be the one that you're most comfortable with. If you don't like people touching you, don't get Reiki to heal your wealth wounds. Go do something else, whether it is quiet meditation on your own that is more suits you, or whether that is journaling or therapy or whatever you need to do, pick what is most comfortable for you so that you can start pulling apart the issues& healing them as quickly as possible.
