Speaker 1oh , character , I can't go on without mentioning Nami Tammy , you so right , all right . So today we're going to be talking about our faith journey . Both of us are Catholic , we are of the Catholic faith . We are Christian first and foremost .
Speaker 2Yes .
Speaker 1But I was baptized Catholic as a baby . I was married in the Catholic Church , confirmed all the things , had my first communion whenever I was in second grade , just like any old Catholic .
Speaker 2But that's not what happened for you Like any old Catholic . No , it was quite the opposite For me . I guess you could say I was Baptist . I feel like , for whatever reason , baptist and Catholic are like the opposites . Do you feel like that ? I wouldn't say opposites , do you feel like that ?
Speaker 1I wouldn't say opposites , no , no , no I just feel like catholics .
Speaker 2They like to drink and have a good time , and you don't drink if you know you don't dance or drink , no dance , even no , okay , not well , maybe the more progressive ones , maybe the more modern baptists , they do dance , I don't know y'all weigh in on this , because I know y'all will but , and that's not to say one like bad thing , about either type , but that's just how it is , you know , but I wouldn't call it , you know , totally opposite , no , no , maybe that was a little differences , though differences for sure yeah .
Speaker 2So to make the jump though , like well , and then I'll to throw a curve ball in . So I was when I was a baby . We went to the . I say a baby I when I was a baby we went to the . I say a baby . I'm assuming I was a baby when we went . Now that I think about it I don't know , but I was little . I do remember being very little going to Sunday school , you know , and at the Baptist church , and fast forward my teen years , my parents left that church and went to a non-denominational church . Okay , so we went from no , you know , no dancing and no real like expressive worship to all out express , and you know what I love it .
Speaker 2I love to go to a non-denominational church because their praise and worship is always lit lit it's lit it is , and it's even now that this would have been in the late 9 1990s , like 99 ish , early 2000s . I feel like now even it's even more lit when you go like to crossroads church or something like that our savior's church , it's a production oh , yeah , I mean and take that either either way , you like it or you don't like it , you gotta give them props for it , because it's a concert you know , it's really a concert and you can just immerse yourself in it if you want to .
Speaker 1Yeah , like that far baby , I like that far I love it .
Speaker 2So , uh , yeah , so went from baptist to a non-denominational church and that was culture shock for you it was , it was now . I made friends like in the youth group and stuff , which was good , but it was . It was different , you know .
Speaker 2And then fast forward to meeting my husband , who was Catholic his whole life too , and he came to service with me a couple of times , but I could just see the struggle in him because he was devoted to his faith . You know didn't understand it , anything really about it . All I knew was I went to mass with him and it was like very quiet somber you know uh traditional , and I didn't .
Speaker 2I didn't have a knowledge or a respect because I had no knowledge of the traditions you know . From the outside , looking in , it seems very not conformative that's not the word like uh restrictive or conservative yeah , maybe .
Speaker 1So I just feel like kind of just kind of going through the motions from somebody outside looking in exactly not me personally .
Speaker 2Right now , I know what everything means and you know , yes , but from an outsider who had knew nothing about the catholic faith , right , and coming from a very liberal , free church . Yeah , it was a shock for me too . So we we're on , you know , progressing in our relationship and everything and I'm I've started going more to mass with him and things and and I saw how important it was to him and at the time I was out of the youth group age , I wasn't really connected to my old church and stuff . I was kind of in a place where I was like I need to make a decision . You know , am I going to ? I love this man , we're going to get married . He loves God . He loves the Lord and wants to please him with his life . That's all that really mattered to me , oh yeah . So I said , is it that important ? You know what's really important here ? And I knew it was going to be very important to him to get married in the Catholic .
Speaker 1Church In the Catholic Church , yeah .
Speaker 2So I made the decision to convert and become Catholic and I went through CCD and all that as an adult .
Speaker 1I just love that .
Speaker 2Yeah , and when you start to learn why the traditions and how it's rooted in Scripture and biblical things , it is . Then I was like , oh , it's not just you know . Yeah , some people maybe they just go through the motions , but I feel like I feel blessed to be able to have came into it as an adult . Yeah , because it was like learning for the first time for me .
Speaker 2It was I loved that it was literally learning for the first time and I was like it's all about the heart , no matter what . If your heart is to praise the Lord and to to please Jesus , it doesn't matter . You can say anything . You can say it empty or you can say it with a full heart . And I chose , you know , and every mass I try to not just say things , because it can be it can become routine , oh it can be .
Speaker 1It can be a going through the motions type thing , but when you actually sit down and listen to what you're saying , it it becomes an entirely different thing , and that's just . I mean , that's , that's just our experience . I like hearing about how you became a Catholic because , you know , I was just born into it , right ? I don't know anything else other than whenever I was , you know , like we've gone to several other churches . My brother-in-law is Pentecostal you know .
Speaker 1so I've been there , I've watched , I've gone to dedications for his kids and you know it's , it's beautiful .
Speaker 2I think it's . I think it's awesome to experience . Oh it is Go different places , experience different things and you trust you have to have a relationship enough with the Lord to trust his guidance and you will feel you know you will feel at home or you will feel like , no , that's just not for me .
Speaker 1It's for you , but it's just not for me . And but what I really love about it is we all serve the same God . You know , we all serve in the same God , and that is what I absolutely love about being a Christian .
Speaker 2You know what I'm saying and you know to say that one religion is closer to God than the other .
Speaker 1You can't say that it's on a person-to-person basis , it is .
Speaker 2You can you can you heard that saying like you can put what is it ? You can put cats in the oven , but that don't make them biscuits .
Speaker 1No , but that might not be the saying but you can put something in .
Speaker 2Yeah , it doesn't matter where you're at okay , you can be a Christian and go to church and not be really what a Christian is . It doesn't matter where you are . That was a horrible experience .
Speaker 1That's so funny . Don't be putting your cat in the oven .
Speaker 2Kittens in the oven but don't make them biscuits . You can sit in church , but that don't make you a Christian .
Speaker 1It , don't , it don't . That's so funny .
Speaker 2But it's on the inside While we're laughing .
Speaker 1a great place to laugh is Peterville , USA . Oh yes , Lord , have mercy .
Speaker 2We do laugh a lot when we go there , because it's a good place to visit with your friends . You bring your friends and your family . It's a great atmosphere . You sit down , have a nice cold , cold beer over there with their frosted mugs .
Speaker 1Um , the kids can play in their little gaming area while you listen to music and have some good food . Right , you're not limited to just pizza over there . They have muffaladas , they have burgers they have salads , wings . That's right , you name it , it's something for everybody , even dessert pizzas .
Speaker 2Dessert pizzas , yes , they got dessert now .
Speaker 1We might have to go get us one after this . Oh , don't tempt me , I'm ready .
Speaker 2So you're going to be impressed with the service and the family-friendly atmosphere over there at PizzaVille and Church Point Adam and Haley Duplachan . All right , so did you go to ? You went to a Catholic school growing up .
Speaker 1I did . I went to . I started out at Church Point Elementary . I went to Church Point Elementary when I was in kindergarten , first grade , and then my mama switched me over to OMP , our Mother of Peace in Church Point , and I went there until I was in eighth grade and that was a good experience for me . I learned a lot . You felt like rooted in your faith .
Speaker 1I see here and you know my cousin miss mary gidry . She was our religion teacher there and it was always she . She just knew the faith so well , you know . And she actually my cousin father mitchell , he's a priest he was gonna marry us nathan and I yeah , that's my cousin , yeah my papa's sister , and then that's , you know , my papa's sister , kids and all that you know he's in branch .
Speaker 2Now , you know he's in branch . Yeah , I thought so over there , we should , we should but anyway , he's , he's amazing .
Speaker 1It's just she was so close to god and she just knew so much about the faith that she made it a good experience for us you know going to O&P .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1And it's just a good little school , like our kids went there . You know I worked there for years , but yeah , that's where I went to school .
Speaker 2So I just I went to regular old public elementary school , you know , and then to the fifth grade , went up to the fifth grade and then I was in the sixth grade for about two weeks and then my mama said , nope , that's it , we ain't having this . And she homeschooled me .
Speaker 1And this was I know People weren't getting homeschooled at that time .
Speaker 2This was back when it was weird . You know people did not . It was not a good thing associated with it , and I can remember my grandma telling her like you basically , like you're going to screw up your child , like you're going to isolate her , she's going to be strange this and that , because that's all they knew . You know , back then you really only got homeschooled . If you know something was kind of wrong with you and I'm so thankful it's not like that no more and that there's no more stigma around that .
Speaker 1Well , and you went to work . You know those women . They worked so hard to go to work . Yes , they went to work , work , work , work , work . And now look , everybody's working . I know I don't want to work . I'm good where I'm at , with all my little children at my house , it's true .
Speaker 2Back then it was .
Speaker 1You went to work , your kids went to daycare . You could afford daycare , I guess at the time .
Speaker 2I don't know , I just don't even know . I don't know how they did it . No , but same . That's why they so I don't know my mom , but well , my mama , my parents , owned a business , my daddy , they had a air , air conditioning , appliance repair business , and so I was blessed to have my parents really working from home . You know , my daddy would go out , of course , in service calls and stuff , but my mama ran the office so my mama was home doing calls and and taking care of the home side of it .
Speaker 2and so , yeah , she , she pulled me out of the public school and homeschooled me and I hated it and I fought it and I wanted to just go to school with my friends and the youth group at church really helped a lot . You know , I was able to have that social aspect and I think that's probably one reason why they I don't think that's the only reason why they went to that church , but I feel like we went on Wednesday nights too , because that was the youth night . You know we went twice a week to church .
Speaker 2And looking back , I'm like man .
Speaker 2that was a commitment for them too , and I'm thinking they did that for me , you know Right , and they did that for me , you know Right , so that I could have that social aspect . And looking back , I'm like I'm so thankful Because you ever look back . I mean and this is not to say nothing bad about nobody but you look back at some of your high school friends that you idolized or you wanted to be like and you're thankful you're not where they are in their life , You're just thankful for your life .
Speaker 2You know like what God did for you and for your life . You know what God did for you and I look back and I'm like I didn't miss a thing .
Speaker 1No , you know what I missed out on ?
Speaker 2I missed out on bad things you know , and being influenced .
Speaker 1I did bad all by myself , you know . You did enough bad , you know , and my husband's always like man . If I could go back to high school , it's kind of like Uncle Rico on Napoleon Dynamite and I'm like I would not go back . I would not go back . That was a horrible experience for me , you know , but it's just because of the time in your life that it is . Yeah , you know you , you can be formed by so many things , or or deformed by so many things .
Speaker 1Yeah so that I would not go back to Now . We are embarking on our 20-year anniversary , our 20-year class reunion this year and , honestly , I love getting together with my classmates . I do Do I want to go back to high school ?
Speaker 2with them .
Speaker 1Yeah , no , right , you know , because we were different in high school .
Speaker 2Oh , absolutely . Everybody was different in high school . Yes , so I don't have any regrets about that and I think my mama , like she , she was brave to do that yeah , you know , and that was unheard of , really and to not listen to all the naysayers , like she knew that this was going to be the best thing for me and I graduate . I went to college , I graduated magna cum laude like I was fine , yeah , and it was a good decision . It really was . I was smart , I was fine , yeah , and it was a good decision .
Speaker 1It really was . You were smart in college I was smart . I was book smart . Oh , okay .
Speaker 2I knew how to study me Like I was a good test taker studier , uh-huh . Now to say I can remember anything else , oh yeah .
Speaker 1Yeah , no I mean .
Speaker 2You go to college for something and look what we're doing right now .
Speaker 1I don't know , it's pretty , it's pretty tough . It's pretty tough , I tell you All right . Well , this sounds like a good time to mention renewed vitality . Speaker 2So now we talked about homeschooling . And now I mean you are homeschooling and I'm basically , yeah , homeschooling my own kids .
Speaker 1Yeah , um , yeah well , I just got tired of the rat race , to be honest with you yeah . I was . Uh , we had two more kids . They're little , there's no way it's like start now afforded though the tuition and , to be quite frank with you , there's no way I could have afforded a tuition and child care for all of these children , and so I just felt God pulling me , you know and I'm like how could you be pulling me away from a Catholic school ?
Speaker 2yeah
, and it's not .
Speaker 1You loved , you loved yes , and I loved the atmosphere of where I taught . I loved all my friends . I love the kids , you know , but it was . It loved all my friends , I loved the kids , you know , but it was just God kept telling me every year it would be a little something , a little something .
Speaker 2A little tug , a little push .
Speaker 1Finally , I was like okay , god , this is . I mean , you put this blessing in my life , which was my third daughter . And I was just like , okay , we're going to do it . And so we tried homeschooling last year and , um , you know , I taught for 13 years , so I know how to teach you you still in your teacher role , so it's like , yeah , yeah so much like we have and even the like , the extra time we have together , because I know people are like let's , let's get them kids off to school .
Speaker 1Honestly , I love being home with my girls . I'll complain and we , we yell and we fight and stuff like that , but at the end of the day they still come and kiss their mom a good night . Those big girls and they make sure they kiss all their siblings and I feel like that just wasn't what we could do when we were constantly around the clock trying to be somewhere .
Speaker 2No , it's true . Yeah , you've been able to slow down and and take a breath and even you ever think about like you really look at it and you're like I'm doing you're doing more now than you used to , but you have more peace . Yeah , you know , and you have , and you're able to enjoy the moments more , even though you're doing more uh-huh .
Speaker 1You know , I know like I get to do it with them , yeah you know , yeah , I always had stuff at school that I was there , yeah , and that was a blessing for me because I was there and I could . You know , I was teaching at the same school that they were going to but it was like can you really experience all the things that you can experience with them when you're at home ?
Speaker 2And that's just my personal right , you know , and all I can say for you is just keep praying about it because if it is for you , it's for you and god will make a way . I mean , you never thought you'd be able to to stay home .
Speaker 1No , you never thought that and I was always . I mean you . When I was growing up , I always wanted to do something like you always wanted .
Speaker 2This is the job like what you want to be when you grow up .
Speaker 1It's always a profession right , but I really just wanted to be with my kids and stay home . Honestly , I just wanted to go shopping all the time , yeah , but you grow it , you grow out of that , okay .
Speaker 2Well , who's gonna ?
Speaker 1pay for that , you know . But um , but then . But then it actually became a reality for me . And and homeschooling , I mean with the kids , though they at school , they have a certain amount of things or certain things that they can do sports , you know this and that home , my kids are not interested in any of that , so we do pokemon club . That's what they're interested in you know they like pokemon , so we found a pokemon homeschool club .
Speaker 1So it's just we can tailor it to what they like and and just live how they you know like . Kind of let them come out of their shell . And honestly , with homeschooling I was worried about the social aspect , but we are together so much with y'all and and the homeschool in town , st Ann's .
Speaker 2Yes .
Speaker 1Yeah , they , we , we fine , but they're fine . Yeah , tell me about your kids .
Speaker 2Yeah , we , we switched same we . We went from the the little Catholic school , which , like , was a very hard decision for me because I loved the atmosphere there and I loved um , the people and stuff . But there were some things I just did not love about mainly just the curriculum and stuff . It didn't sit well with me and I just wanted a simpler way for my kids to learn . You know some things I feel like if it's not broke , don't fix it and don't try to complicate the heck out of it . I 1,000% agree . So I just wanted a more simple curriculum . No-transcript in town and there's about 30 kids that go there and we tried it out last year and we not going back . I mean we , her kids didn't even want to leave .
Speaker 1They did not want to leave .
Speaker 2They love school so much they are so ready to be back . You know it's half a day and it's off on friday and it's you know if they sick . You don't have to worry about them missing so many days of school .
Speaker 2Like keep your baby home and it's just like you can breathe you know , and I just feel already there was a post going around Facebook and it was been shared a lot and it was a poor little . He had to be maybe kindergarten , first grade at the most , and this little boy he was . He looked so distraught . He was trying to do his homework and it and I saw it , you saw it .
Speaker 1It broke my heart and I can't say nothing , because if you say something , no , I know , I know , I say I could say what I want here , but I'm not gonna post it .
Speaker 2The mama was just saying how it's too much you know he he gets home from school , he's tired and he still has to do homework for two hours or more , and and he's in the first grade , or it could have been kindergarten , but I think it was the first grade . But anyway , that was our life , you know , and my little one I'm sorry , my oldest one was in second grade and we would cry , you know , every day for homework we would cry and it was a fight every single day and I'm just like there has to be a better way . And this was just . This was a godsend really just the um getting out at noon .
Speaker 2You know we come home and we have lunch and we do homework and then it's done and then they have the afternoon to decompress . They need to decompress too .
Speaker 1You know . Just think about us going to work from nine to five or eight to five or whatever . A grown person , that's a lot of stress on a grown person's body . You know , and I did it , we . You know , we , of stress on a grown person's body . You know , and I did it , we . You know , we did .
Speaker 2You do what you have to do you know for your family . But if you have another choice , would you take it ? You know , wouldn't you take it ? I feel like everyone would take it if they could Absolutely .
Speaker 1If I mean , I don't know , I guess some people , I don't know , for us it works , and but do you remember how hard that decision was for both of us ? Yes , because we made it at the same time .
Speaker 2Yes .
Speaker 1You know , like we decided to homeschool at the same time , and your homeschool looks completely different from mine , it's true .
Speaker 2Yeah , mine do go somewhere . It's not me doing it . It's not in my house , but it's the same concept of we want a slower paced life and I feel like so many people are craving that and it really tugs at my heart and breaks my heart for those who just really have no other option . So if you feel in that way , you're not alone and all I can encourage you to do is pray that Jesus would provide a different way for you .
Speaker 1And if it's ?
Speaker 2for you . I just love that saying . If it's for you , if it's for you , I just love that saying if it's for you , it's for you . Yeah , you know . And if it's not , if that particular plan is not for you , then ask for the grace to make it through each day , because he'll give it to you . The grace will be there to get you through those tough moments and acceptance and it's correct sometimes acceptance is yes , brings peace yeah , but man just pray about it .
Speaker 1That's the best , the best thing that I can say , because I was just like , what am I gonna do ? You know ?
Speaker 2and thankfully , and I remember being I actually remember feeling a little envious of you in the fact that you so openly trusted God to provide for you . When you made that decision , it was just like no , I don't care if we have to eat bologna sandwiches every day , I'm staying home with my kids . Yeah , and I just like , no , I don't care if we have to eat bologna sandwiches every day , I'm staying home with my kids . And I was like , oh my God , I mean at the time , I'm working from home . But I'm , but I'm working full time from home , still like at my desk all day , feeling stretched thin , trying to juggle my limelight business , trying to work out and have some time for myself , trying to take , keep up with the kids in the house and everything .
Speaker 2And in my heart I already knew like I wanted to step away from that job . But I could . I just felt like I couldn't you know , and I remember thinking like look at how you trusted the Lord to provide for you and you are making more money now than when you were teaching . Yeah , and you're with your kids at home .
Speaker 1Praise God .
Speaker 2I just feel like what a testimony to have in faith and putting your full trust in the Lord . Aw , it's true . You love me , I do love you . I mean , you're good , you're good , you're just good .
Speaker 1That's sweet , because sometimes I feel and I fall short Lord .
Speaker 2I fall short . Of course we do , we do , but he loves us anyway .
Speaker 1Thank God he does , but you know honestly without my good friends like you and my prayer warrior , because y'all , if y'all and we're going to do this at the end of this episode , I'm going to have you just rattle off a prayer , okay , okay , for all of our mama friends , or all of our daddy friends or some . Maybe you a stay-at-home daddy , or whatever . Whatever it may be you need that too

Speaker 2Oh , we have to . Yeah , she looked like she had fun . I remember she posted about it and they give big prizes away too on their bingo . Know about that . Speaker 2Yeah , we kind of had a little like I feel like some deep discussion this time . We did Because it's dear to our hearts and I feel like at the root of most women especially , we just want to be homemakers and mamas . That's at the root of it . You might have a career that you love and if you do , that's awesome , I think what is at the root of us is we want to make our families happy . Yeah , it's true .
Speaker 1And it doesn't mean that I have to stay home to make my family happy . But we all have that in common that we want to have a happy family . We want to live a happy life .
Speaker 2We want to make , we want to do for our family and we're just trying to juggle all the things that we believe will make that happen .
Speaker 1And sometimes it's hard to juggle and it's never going to be enough for you , you know like you never . You feel like you're never going to do enough . Well , you've seen , because we feel the same way , yeah , even though we stay out , it's never enough . That's right that's right .
