Welcome back y'all . Welcome back Welcome back to . Coffee .
Speaker 2Talk with the Cajun Mamas .
Speaker 1That was quite something .
Speaker 2Beautiful huh .
Speaker 1Yes , um , so Halloween is tomorrow . Yeah , I would love to have a discussion with you about Halloween because it can get a little polarized , like the opinions on Halloween . You know , being a Christian and all .
Speaker 2You know . So we're going to talk about that . We're going to talk about that today . I like it .
Speaker 1I like that topic .
Speaker 2Okay .
Speaker 1So stay with me on that . And first let's mention our grand sponsor for October Acadia Parish Tourism . Y'all , acadiatourismcom is going to have so much information for you . You need to go check it out If you're planning a visit to Acadia , parish or Cajun country in general . It's going to list all the things that you don't want to miss . Yeah , it's going to tell you where to eat . Okay , there's information on here about any festivals that we might have going on which you're not going to want to miss out on . They even have something called a meat trail . Okay , the meat trail is gonna have so many different food things you can . You can get like buda and cracklins , po'boys , specialty meats too , like sausage , do not miss out on the specialty meats specialty .
Speaker 2If you are going , if you coming in from out of town and if you've never been here , you need to bring yourself an ice chest oh , get you some special load up your ice chest , load it up we have family members that do that . They load up those ice chests , get yourself some specialty meats on the meat trail . And we always get that question uh what ? What's good where ? Do I need to eat , here you go there's a list at acadiatourismcom .
Speaker 1you can check it out and see what we have to offer here all right , so let's talk about halloween okay , so growing up I was not allowed to celebrate halloween .
Speaker 2This interests me so much . Yes , um , I mean fascinates me that we talked about you know before like my religious upbringing or whatever and it just was never something that was entertained .
Speaker 1Even you know , like halloween was associated with just evil and we don't mess around with all that , right , you know , and part of me honestly still believes that . Oh yeah , you know , there is an , there is an evil side to this there is there is which we do not entertain and we do not participate in .
Speaker 2Unfortunately , this is a topic of conversation with my children at this point in their life , with the things that they can see on television .
Speaker 1Yeah , you , know it's true , even I mean disney movies like it's out , it's there , y'all it's there , it's out there , it's in our kids faces . You need to be aware of it .
Speaker 2Yeah , um , and you know , whatever you think , I just I was telling her about a show today and I was like , hey , make sure your kids are not watching this . It is not appropriate . The magical world of Disney is yeah you have to be careful .
Speaker 1You have to be careful , and it's not just Disney , you know it's everywhere .
Speaker 1It's everywhere . But I just think something so kid-centered , and especially around this time of the year , for Halloween , you see it more . You know they're pumping up these horror movies and even God , the commercials , y'all , you can't get past it , you can't . And trying to wind down for the evening , okay , my family , my kids are on the couch and you know my husband's in his chair and I'm usually on the couch with one of the kids and we just trying to wind down watching shows .
Speaker 1You know just whatever Food Network , whatever Commercials horror movie my kids literally like I'm like hydrolyze , because I don't want that in their little soul , you know . So we're scaring them in the middle of the night you know , exactly like you .
Speaker 1Once you see something , it's so hard to unsee you can't unsee , you know , and I try to tell my kids that all the time like this is why mama don't let you get this app , whatever , because once you see it or hear it , it's there and I can remember . Mom , you know that that was my mama's reasoning too . Like you , I'm not going to expose you to all this . So I celebrate if that's the right word Halloween very cautiously , to the extent of I go to your house with my kids and we walk to trick or treat at a very , you know , a small area of town and it's only about going get some candy , you know it's about and that's it .
Speaker 1And then they come back to your house and they play in the yard and that's all there is to it . Yeah , we don't do the fright trails , we don't do the the 13 gates and all that or whatever . We don't do none of that . And that's not to say something bad about you if you do . No Trust me .
Speaker 2I have done it . I have too , even as a teenager , for the scare we did all that . But there's a you know , I don't know . I feel like there's a time in your life for that kind of stuff you know , I don't know the curiosity , the fun , the thrill , the thrill of it , I don't know . But I have and and and that was a fun time of my life . But I don't . I don't necessarily want my kids to be exposed to that at this point , at this age when they're so young .
Speaker 2Yeah right there'll be a time . I'm sure there'll be a time for that do I think it's a good thing .
Speaker 1I mean , I hope they make the choice , not but yeah but like you said , we did it . You know , I went and watched scary movies and stuff and didn't think anything of it .
Speaker 2But you have to be responsible . You know what was big the Hell House . Did you go to Hell House ? Hell House was like to scare you to not do things .
Speaker 1Oh , yes , you know , but it was put on by a church , that was .
Speaker 2Or churches .
Speaker 1That was . It was called Hell House , hell House , or there was something it was called . Yeah , and it was like all . Yeah , I remember going there . Long , long lines , and it was supposed to scare you , you know , into putting away all the sinful things . Yeah , so that you would , you know , go to heaven .
Speaker 2Yeah and at the end they had people waiting on you . Yeah , there was a heaven at the end .
Speaker 1Yeah , yeah , yeah .
Speaker 2And they'd pray with you and stuff . Yeah , I remember that . So you know , I don't know if they do that too much anymore , but I don't know it . Uh , that that was what we did , and then you know we went to 13th gate and I spent way too much money . Uh , my friends , the back of her jacket and I was scared . So I don't do stuff like that .
Speaker 1You can say it's all in , in , in good fun , like some people think that being scared is fun . You have to go by your own convictions , you know . That's why I say I don't judge people who celebrate halloween or do scary things . That's between you and the lord . That's what . That's your own convictions . But for me personally , I don't yeah that's it . That's all there is to it .
Speaker 2I just don't stand strong in your faith . You know what I'm saying , and um , and , and you don't you know .
Speaker 1But having grown up not being allowed to do it , I will say always felt like I was missing out on something Right . So I allow my kids to dress up and do that because I don't see the harm in that and like I feel like that .
Speaker 2I would you know , yeah .
Speaker 1So I want them to have that . You know , I don't want them to be like , well , we weren't allowed to do this when that part of it is innocent to me . Oh , absolutely .
Speaker 2Because when I was little and we was going from house to house , it was about the trick or treating . It was about dressing up like a princess or you know you know a superhero Pretend play , and then we'd go At the end and we would my uncle , my uncle Glenn would , cook a big gumbo on Halloween .
Speaker 1Oh , how nice , and we'd all have gumbo together and I just like it was a family thing it was .
Speaker 2Yeah , it was less about the scary and more about the family and the candy and going trick or treating with my cousins and stuff like that .
Speaker 1And that's how I explain it to my kids too , we don't . We don't do the scary part of Halloween . We do the fun , happy part of happy I don't know if that's a word , you know like how to describe it , but we do the just the fun dress up kind of side .
Speaker 2You know , yeah , that's what we do too , you know , I think , being that you didn't do that when you was younger , you can see that it's not all about .
Speaker 1You know the scary part , you know .
Speaker 2But yeah , we always did . We would go trick-or-treating and then my Uncle Glenn had a big gumbo at the end and I look forward to that man Talk about . At the end of you getting your candy , uncle Glenn had gumbo Nice , you know .
Speaker 1And he lived in a part of town where everybody was handing out candy . Oh , what a great time . It was such a good place , yeah , to get all your candy Load up .
Speaker 2So now what we do with our kids is , you know , we hand out candy and we go and just hit a little stop and I know a lot of churches do like little harvest type carnival things yeah .
Speaker 1To give kids a safe alternative like to go and have candy and play and stuff which I think is cute , oh , yeah , I love that .
Speaker 2All right , let's take a second to mention our sponsor , lily and Me . All right , let's take a second to mention our sponsor , lily and Me . Lily and Me is a pacifier developed by our friend , hannah and her mama . She's from Church Point , but her pacifier is around . I don't know the design is around . I don't know if she's international . I know you can get her , you can get Lily and Me nationally , oh for sure . Yeah For sure . It's designed for a better latch .
Speaker 2Normally , a pacifier is to pacify your child and just kind of bite down on it and they kind of suck on it all the time . But this pacifier is a great tool to encourage proper oral development , strengthen the baby's sucking reflexes . Its round nipple and wide base has a gradual curve that ensures an open and deep latch for your baby okay it's the only pacifier we use in our cajun household and um you know the the colors are really cute .
Speaker 2They make great gifts . Go get your lily and me pacifier at lilyandmecocom and check them out on social media at lily and meco before we move off of halloween real fast .
Candy , halloween , candy . Okay , what's your favorite ?
Speaker 2Oh my , gosh , this is such a good topic . So my father-in-law goes all out when he buys candy .
Speaker 1I don't .
Speaker 2I wonder how much he spends on candy . I don't want to know . But I am the happiest person when he comes to my house with his candy haul , because he only gets the good stuff . Name brand things Twigs , I know , reese's , all the things I'm too cheap to buy , yep , you know . So , like me , you , you know if I'm buying you getting dum-dums , you getting that .
Speaker 1What's the mix ? The mix , what's it ?
Speaker 2called playtime mix or something like that I don't know . It's like tootsie rolls , dots bop yeah , yeah , uh , you getting all the sizes of tootsie rolls . Now you get a assortment of tootsie rolls but my father-in-law be coming with the chocolate candy . Yeah , the Fruities . My kids collect that for my husband .
Speaker 1He likes the Fruity Tooties . He loves the Fruity Tootsie Rolls . Yeah .
Speaker 2Oh yeah , they collect them , put them in a bag . They put them all in a bag next to his bed . Oh , how nice On his bedside table .
Speaker 1My husband likes the vanilla ones , the vanilla Tootsie Rolls .
Speaker 2Oh , but you're talking about the Tootsies . Yeah , the vanilla ones are the best .
Speaker 1See , I didn't even know that was a thing until like a few years ago . I'm like what's this blue wrap , tootsie Roll ? And Nathan's like the vanilla Tootsie Roll . You poor soul he loves them .
Speaker 2I can't believe you didn't , didn't ? I know ? I was just showing on birthday parties and now this ? I just don't know what you ? I know all right . Well , yeah , so that's my favorite candy . Give me the chocolate what you want .
Speaker 1I do like the chocolate stuff . I'm a fruity type candy person . Uh , preferably , I know I like fruity fruit , fruit flavored candies , like sour stuff you know like sour , you know like sour patches and all that . That's not necessarily a halloween thing though no but like I like the halloween reeses I mean , which I don't taste no different than a regular reeses , but there's something about it , like a halloween reeses is just lit you know it's just so good , absolutely so I like that they make the pumpkins yeah my husband came home with each as a pumpkin .
Speaker 2What a treat , what a treat . My little girls were so excited .
Speaker 1The baby , it's only second to the Reese's egg at Easter , that's the . The ultimate Reese's is the egg oh it's , it's the ultimate yeah , so that's the Halloween pumpkin one .
Speaker 2That's the second to me now they got the trees and they're doing all things they do , yeah , but I don't know it's special . All right , let's talk . Since we're on the sweets track , yes , let's do that .
