Construction is a complex world, where every project is a prototype and the supply chain booked to deliver it is both long and often untested.  Any wonder then that the contracts that specify our work, anywhere within the supply chain are both long and relatively complex.  These contracts are the preserve of lawyers who can help us set up a project, interpret the language that describes our agreements and occasionally help enforce them.  Unfortunately, our industry has a love / hate relationship with the legal profession, yet they form an important part of our supply chain and corporate protection.  Ruth Griffin and Jessica Tresham, both Partners at top law firm Gowling, talk to Mark on how to get the best from the legal profession and why lawyers should be in the armoury of every business within the industry.  They describe the importance of the personal relationship in deriving best value and how their clients use them to best effect.  Their call to arms is for a busy, proactive industry that engages openly with clear risk transfer, using skilled people throughout.  Not necessarily the call to arms that you might expect from two lawyers, one non-contentious and the other contentious!
