The Building Safety Act is the most significant piece of construction legislation for a generation. Its reach is far and broad across our sector, driven as it was by the terrible disaster of Grenfell. This disaster highlighted multiple structural failures across our sector that from a different perspective should never have been allowed to happen.
Implementing the Building Safety Act requires a change of our culture, making individuals accountable and forcing transparency. Scott Kaminski, COO of Jewell PFP is on the front line of these changes and is ideally placed to talk about the rate of change that he is seeing and the challenges of bringing a fragmented and cash strapped industry into this new environment. Scott is optimistic about the opportunities, but pragmatic about the way that these changes are going to be achieved. His recognition that the sector needs to learn to collaborate widely if it is to meet its obligations is one that is easy to hear, but difficult to implement.
